In support of the Pink Zone initiative, the first 200 fans through the door will receive a free pink HOPE bracelet and 500 HOPE stickers will be available to all fans. During timeouts the cheerleaders will be tossing beads embossed with the pink breast cancer awareness ribbon into the crowd. Back-to-Back Chanticleers defeated Presbyterian College on Feb. 5 they picked up back-to-back wins for the third time this season and first sine defeating Campbell and Coker in consecutive games to close out the month of November. The victories over Winthrop and Presbyterian also represent Coastal two Big South Conference wins this year. Under 50?... No ProbleM Coastal has scored under 50 points in both of its previous two contests, winning both by double-figures in the process. The Chants 48 points against Winthrop was good enough for a 19 point win while 47 against Presbyterian was a 13 point victory. Irick Comes Through Again After a two game slump where she only scored a combined nine points against High Point and Liberty, junior guard Olivia Irick has found her stroke once again. In the past three games she has totaled 43 points including a career-high 21 points at Radford. Against Presbyterian College on Feb. 5, Irick made her presence know down the stretch as she connected on two crucial three pointers to keep the Chants in front of the rallying Blue Hose. Irick then sank four foul shots in the final 38 second to seal the Chanticleer victory. 63 Combined Is Not Enough Winthrop s 29 points and Presbyterian s 34 points are the lowest ever allowed in back-to-back games by an Alan LeForce led Coastal Carolina team. In the two games, the Chants have used strong defensive pressure to force Winthrop and Presbyterian into 34 total turnovers and a combined meager 22.5 percent shooting average. Moss Picks up Fifth Double-Double Sydnei Moss pulled scored 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in the victory at Winthrop for her fifth double-double of the season. Her 15 boards were the most of her career eclipsing her previous best of 13 that she totaled twice. Chalk One Up In the Win Column Led by Sydnei Moss second consecutive doubledouble performance and Katie White s four blocked shots and numerous shot alterations, the Coastal Carolina women s basketball team snapped its seven game losing streak in dominating fashion to upend Winthrop 48-29. Moss led all scorers in the contest with 18 points while Olivia Irick and Jessica Noll contributed ten and eight points respectively. Moss also pulled down a career-high 15 boards and tied a career-high with six thefts. The Chants shot 36.2 percent for the game and continued its improvement from the free throw line making 11-of-16 shots for 68.8 percent. Coastal also picked off eight Winthrop passes and dished out 10 helpers. Really?... Only 29 points? The Chanticleers only gave up 29 points to Winthrop on Jan. 31 in the 48-29 win. The Eagles total was the fewest allowed by any Coastal Carolina team in a Big South Conference game. Winthrop Eagles Like Coastal, Winthrop only play one game during the past week dropping Longwood 54-46 at home. Dequesha McClannahan, a freshman guard, leads Winthrop with 12.6 points per game which ranks sixth in the Big South. The Eagles lead the conference in field goal percentage defense allowing opponents to only shoot 35.0 percent from the floor. Winthrop ranks third in the Big South allowing only 56 points per game. Winthrop consistently attacks the boards as the Eagles have three player ranked in the top 20 in the Big South in rebounds... Winthrop, 9-11 (3-5, Big South), scored on its first possession in the game to take the early lead, but from there on out it was all Coastal Carolina, 7-13 (1-7, Big South), as the Chanticleers bested the Eagles in nearly every statistical category and earned their first Big South Conference win this season. Winthop s 29 points were the third fewest scored by the Eagles at home in the history of Winthrop Coliseum and the lowest allowed by the Chanticleers in a Big South contest. Over the next eleven minutes of play the stingy Chanticleer defense limited the Eagles to only six points while continuing to force turnovers and ill advised shots. During the stretch Coastal would use an 11-6 scoring run to take a 38-22 advantage with 6:45 to play. The advantage was the Chants largest since holding an 18 point advantage in its last victory at USC Upstate on Dec. 30. Winthrop would use layups on back-to-back possessions to pull within four with just under four minutes remaining in the stanza, but Moss answered on the offensive end with an 18 foot jumper to put Coastal back on top by a score of 16-10. Winthrop would outscore Coastal 6-4 through the rest of the half to cut the Chanticleers lead to 20-16 heading into the locker rooms. This was a great victory for our team tonight, said head coach Alan LeForce. We have been playing better as of late and tonight all of the pieces came together. Record Breaker Katie White had six rejections in the first half against Radford on Jan. 29, seven total in the game, to become Coastal Carolina s all-time leader in the category with 191. White passed Sandra Leach s 189 career blocks which she set from 1979-83. into head coach Alan LeForce s for the first time in her career against Liberty on Jan. 24. Cook played a season-high 28 minutes and scored seven points on 2-of7 from the field including a three with the shot clock expiring. Moss Named Player of the Week Coastal Carolina s Sydnei Moss has been named the Big South Conference Women s Basketball Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while Cheyenne Parker of High Point was tabbed The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 25-31, the League announced today. Moss, a senior from North Augusta, S.C., averaged 18 points and 13.5 rebounds per game to lead Coastal Carolina to a 1-1 record last week. She got her week started with 18 points on 57 percent from the floor and two from the charity stripe to go along with 12 boards and three assists in against League-leading Radford on Jan. 29. Two days later against Winthrop, the guard stayed hot as she poured in 18 points, corralled 15 caroms, dished out three helpers and came away with six steals in the win over the Lady Eagles. She finished 9-of-10 at the line as well as a 43 percent clip from the floor in the two-game span. Moss was tabbed as a preseason All-Big South Conference team member this season and was a second team all-conference selection last season. Moss was twice selected as the freshman of the week during the 2007-08 campaign. White Named Academic All-District Katie White of the Coastal Carolina University women s basketball team has been voted a First-Team ESPN All-Academic District III selection. She is now eligible to earn ESPN Academic All-American status. Of the eight districts around the country, only firstteam district selections are eligible for All-American status. All first-team selections will go into a national pool with voting to begin on Feb. 8. White has been named to the President s list in each of her six semesters at Coastal Carolina. She holds a team high 4.0 GPA as an accounting major. White is also a member of the Beta Alpha Psi and Beta Alpha Sigma international honor societies. She is on track to graduate in May 2011 after which she intends to attend graduate school to pursue an MBA in accounting. Career Night Against Radford on Jan. 29 Olivia Irick established a new career-high of 21 points on 8-of-15 from the field as she led all scorers in the contest. She connected on four treys, also a carer-high, which is Coastal s game-high thus far this season. Long Range Bomber In the games against High Point and Liberty, senior Jessica Noll was on fire from beyond the arc. In the two games, Noll knocked down four three points for 12 of her 18 points. Against Liberty on Jan. 24 Noll drained two key three on back-to-back possessions to keep the Chants in the game. She is second on the team with 12 made treys. Cook Gets First Career Start Freshman shooting guard Kayla Cook made her way Improved shooting at High Point The Chanticleers shot 47.4 percent from the floor in the defeat at High Point. The percentage was the Chants highest since shooting 54.0 percent against USC Upstate on Dec. 31. The percentage is also tops for Coastal in the Big South this season. Season Average... Not Today! Through six Big South Conference games this season, Coastal Carolina has held four opponents under its season average. The highlight of which was limiting Gardner-Webb, who came into the Jan. 17 contest averaging a conference-high 65.3 points per game, to only 45 points a full 20 less than its average. Record Watch Katie White s 197 career blocks (55 this season) nowrank her sixth all-time in the Big South Conference career record books. She needs eleven more blocks to equal Sandra Leach at the top of the Coastal Carolina single season record books with 66. Sydnei Moss has scored 209 points this season to make her the one of the most prolific scorers in Coastal Carolina history. Her 1206 career points puts her in 9th place on the Coastal Carolina all-time list. Moss is 52 points shy of equaling Kim Lewis 1258 points for eighth all-time. Picking Up Where She Left Off Senior Sydnei Moss made her way back into the starting lineup against UNC Asheville after missing the previous two games with an injury. Moss scored ten points in both games since the injury and pulled down a combined 13 boards along with dishing out two helpers. Battle of the Shot Blockers Saturday s game against High Point will highlight two of the most prolific shot blockers in Big South Conference history. Coastal s Katie White currently ranks second in the conference with 38 blocks this season and eighth on the all-time list with 180 career rejections. High Point s Mackenize Maier is tops in the conference this season with 40 swat and ranks second in the conference record book with 262 career blocks. Break Out Year Junior Olivia Irick is having a break out season for the Chanticleers. The guard, who played an average of 17.2 minutes per game over her first two seasons, has solidified herself in head coach Alan LeForce s starting lineup. She is currently Coastal s leading scorer averaging 10.3 points per game. Her 11.8 points per game in Big South play places her ninth on the conference scoring list. On Jan. 29 at Radford, White broke Coastal Carolina s all-time career shot blocks record of 189 that had stood for 27 years. Moss to Return Senior forward Sydnei Moss, who was named to the Big South preseason all-conference first team, will make her return to the court against Charleston Southern for the first time since suffering an injury in the fourth minute of the 70-62 victory over USC Upstate on Dec. 30, 2010. Despite her absence on the court, Moss remains in the top 15 in the Big South in scoring as she averaged 10.2 points per game before her injury. Seven In A RoW Junior guard Olivia Irick has scored in double figures in each of the past nine games. In all, she has topped the ten point platform 11 times this season which is more than any other Chanticleer. Her 11 games in double digits this season surpasses her career total as she scored 10 plus points twice as a freshman and seven times as a sophomore. Glad to See You Old FrienD Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern will meet on the hardwood for the 73rd time on Monday evening. Through the series, Coastal hold a resounding 44-28 edge. Charleston Southern has been on the Coastal Carolina schedule more than any other opponent in program history, just edging the 70 meetings with Winthrop. The two schools first met on the court in the fourth game of the Chanticleers inaugural season of 1974-75. I that meeting, Charleston Southern (formally Baptist College) defeated the upstart Chants 61-47. Settling In Junior guard Kira Carter, a junior college transfer from Wabash Valley, has settled into the Chanticleers offense as of late. In the past five games, Carter has scored 51 of her 90 points on the season. During that stretch, she has shot 46 percent from the floor. Carter has also grabbed 16 rebounds and collected five steals since Dec. 12. Happy to Be Home Coastal returns home to Kimbel Arena, where they hold a 4-1 record, to play in front of the home crowd for only the third time since November 28. During the month of December, the Chants played six games with only two being at home. During the month the Chanticleers traveled to the Aces Winter Classic in Evansville, Ind., played in the Carolinas Challenge at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, and trekked to Spartanburg, S.C. to play USC Upstate. Oh, What A Night After leading scorer Sydnei Moss went down in the fourth minute of the game against USC Upstate, Kira Carter and Katie White stepped up and knocked down shots to lead the Chants to victory. Carter scored a Chants season-high 21 points in the contest while White tied her career-high of 17 points. The two combined to shoot 15-of-22 from the floor and 8-of-12 from the free throw line. Heating UP Coastal Carolina s continual shooting improvement produced a season-best 54.0 percent shooting performance in the 70-62 victory at USC Upstate. The Chanticleers went 27-of-50 from the floor to produce the teams highest percentage from the field since the 2008-009 season. Starters are ScorinG Over the past two games (Butler and USC Upstate) Coastal s starting lineup has scored 45-plus points. The Chants starters scored 46 points on 40.5 shooting in the defeat at the hands of Butler and accounted for 49 of the 70 points scored against USC Upstate. In the Upstate victory, the starting five shot a season-high 59.4 percent from the field. The Chants in Conference Openers Since 2000, Coastal is 4-6 in Big South Conference season openers. Last season Coastal fell to UNC Asheville 59-48. The Chants most recent victory in the conference opener was during the 2008-09 campaign as the ladies from Conway pulled away from UNC Asheville by a 68-55 final. Moss Raises the Bar Sydnei Moss raised the Chants season standards against Butler as she scored a season-high 20 points in the game and came away with six of Coastal s 13 steals. Moss points output and steals mark the Chanticleer season standard through this point in the year. Triplets in Double-Figures For the third time in four games, the Chanticleers finished with three scores in double-figures against USC Upstate. Kira Carter led the way with a season high 21 points as Katie White added 17 and Olivia Irick improved on her season average with 11 points. The Only Ones Coastal Carolina s Sydnei Moss and High Point s Mackenzie Maier are the only active players in the Big South with more than 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. The milestone marks the first time since the 2008-09 season the Big South has had two active players with 1,000-plus career points and 500-plus career boards. Coastal and the A-Sun Coastal Carolina is 1-0 on the season against the Atlantic Sun Conference. The victory came over Campbell by a final of 58-52 on Nov. 23, 2010. The Chants, however, have not fared well historically against the A-Sun holding an all-time record of 19-34 against member institutions. Take The Ball And Run The Chanticleers scored a season-high 34 points off of 25 Butler turnovers in the teams last game. The Chants collected 13 steals in the game compared to only six by the Bulldogs. GAME 1 Coastal Carolina vs. Southern Virginia 11-12-10 5:00 p.m. Conway, S.C. Kimbel Arena CONWAY- The Coastal Carolina women s basketball team opened the 2010-11 basketball season in impressive fashion as the Chants defeated Southern Virginia 66-27 behind double digit scoring efforts from Olivia Irick and Kayla Cook. Irick came out of the gates on fire as she scored Coastal s first 11 points on 4-10 shooting from the floor to keep the Chants ahead of the scrappy Southern Virginia Knights. Southern Virginia kept the game close through the first 13 minutes of the contest before Coastal was able to open a six point lead. During that stretch Southern Virginia took the lead once and cut Costal lead to one three times with the help of three pointers by Carley Skinner, Ajalynn Domingo, and Jasmin Johnson. Once Coastal had the six point lead, there was no looking back as the Chants used a 13-6 run to close out the first half to take an 11 point edge into the locker rooms. Coastal came out in the second half with a 10-0 run, that saw senior Katie White score all six of her points on the night, in the first 3:03 to take a 21 point lead that salted away the game. Southern Virginia s Abi Logan slowed the Chanticleer barrage with a layup to bring the score to 36-17. The Knights would only muster 10 more points in the half to finish the game shooting 20 percent from the floor. Cook made the most of her freshman debut as she scored all 11 of her points in the second half as the Chants were having their way with Southern Virginia en route to out scoring the Knights by 28 in the stanza. The last six minutes of the contest belonged to the superior home team as the Chants went on a third and final scoring run of 18-4 to close the game. Senior Sydnei Moss finished with eight points on the night, but it was her third and fourth point that pushed over a career milestone and into the Coastal Carolina history books. Moss fast-break layup with 1:09 remaining in the first half accounted for her 1,000 and 1,001 point in her collegiate career. Moss is now the 11th member of the 1,000 point club in Coastal Carolina history. Senior Jessica Noll accounted for all of Coastal s points from behind the arc as she drilled three triples in a 1:38 span in the second half. The Chants finished the night shooting 33.3 percent from the floor and 70.4 percent from the charity stripe. Coastal ripped down 53 rebounds and had four blocks on the night while dishing out 12 assists. The Chanticleer bench had a strong showing, scoring 40 points. Cook and Noll led the way with a combined 20 points while freshman Alexx Puckett dropped in nine of her own. Carolina First Arena CHARLESTON, S.C.- Sydnei Moss 15 foot jumper with.4 seconds remaining lifted the Chanticleers over the College of Charleston Cougars in dramatic fashion by a final of 44-43 on Tuesday evening. College of Charleston took the lead for only the second time in the game with 21 seconds remaining before Moss would come through with the clutch shot of the night. Moss took the inbounds pass after a timeout and launched the eventual difference maker with time winding down. Moss finished with a game high 18 points on 7-19 from the field. Moss also pulled down a team high seven rebounds in the contest. The win moves Coastal Carolina to 2-0 on the season while the College of Charleston falls to 1-2. After falling behind 2-0 to start the game the Chants used five different players to put together a 12 point run to take a 10 point lead before College of Charleston was able to answer with a fast break layup by Tonia Gerty. On Charleston s next possession Brianna Davie connected from behind the arc to bring the game to 12-7 with 7:32 remaining in the first half. Senior Jessica Noll then connected for her fourth three pointer of the season restore the Chants lead to eight at 15-7. The Cougars Taylor Mims finished two runners win the lane while Gerty added a jumper to start an 8-5 CofC run to finish the half. The teams took a 20-17 score into the half with Coastal shooting 31 percent from the floor with 20 rebounds and five steals. The Coastal defensive pressure held the Cougars without a basket during a 8:32 stretch early in the period. Coastal started off strong in the second half as the Chants used a quick 8-4 run of their own to open up a seven point lead on the home team with just over 10 minutes remaining. The Chanticleers pulled out to a nine point lead, thanks in large part to Moss stellar performance, with 9:07 remaining in the second half only to watch the Cougars steadily chop it away until a mid-range jumper by CofC s Gerty with 1:52 remaining in the second half brought the Cougars within their two, the closest margin since the Chants took the lead at the 16:13 mark of the first half. After a timeout, College of Charleston took their second lead in the contest at 43-42 with a deep three pointer from Jillian Brown. The points were Brown s only of the game. Coastal finished the night with nine assists, ten steals, and four blocks along with shooting 33.3 percent from the field. Carmichael Arena CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The Coastal Carolina women s basketball team fell to No. 14 North Carolina in front of 2,309 fans at the famed Carmichael Arena by a final of 93-37 on Friday, Nov. 19. The loss drops the Chants to 2-1 on the young season as the Tar Heels move to a 3-0 record. North Carolina jumped out to an early 16 point lead before the Chants were able to get points on the board. North Carolina s Chay Shegog and Italee Lucas combined for 12 points during the early run. Once Coastal broke the North Carolina scoring streak, the team gained confidence and played evenly with the nationally ranked Tar Heels for the final five minutes of the first half. North Carolina used a 19-6 run in the first six minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach for the Chanticleers. As in each of the two previous games this season, the Chants forced at least 15 turnovers with their scrappy defense. With this defensive pressure looming, North Carolina was held without a field goal in the last 4:45 of the first half. Similar to the Southern Virginia contest, the Chanticleer bench came through with 16 points as each player on the Coastal Carolina roster saw playing time. Olivia Irick led the Chanticleers in scoring for the second time this season with nine points including a deep three point shot in the second half. GAME 4 Coastal Carolina at Elon 11-21-10 2:00 p.m. Elon, N.C. Alumni Gym ELON, N.C.- Despite double digit scoring performances by Sydnei Moss and Kira Carter, the Coastal Carolina women s basketball team fell to Elon 73-58 on Sunday, Nov. 21. The loss drops the Chanticleers to 2-2 as Elon moves to 3-1 on the young season. Elon jumped out to an early 10-4 lead to start the game thanks in large part to the shooting of guard Ali Ford who was responsible for five of the points. Coastal responded as Carter connected on a deep three pointer and freshman Shanika Maddox knocked down a free throw to cut the Elon lead down to two points with 12:33 to play in the half. The Phoenix then put together a quick 12-0 run to pull away from the Chants with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half. During the run, Elon forced three Coastal turnovers all of which resulted in points for the home team. The Chants had trouble getting to the basket as Elon built a 24 point heading into the half. Elon shot a 53.1 percent from the field in the stanza including 37.5 percent from behind the arc. Coastal was led in the half by Carter s five points and Katie White s three blocked shots. Coastal Carolina was able to force two quick turnovers in the early segments of the second half that resulted in four points for the Chants. Katie Ahaus also knocked down a three to cap off a 7-0 Coastal run. However, Elon used a full court press to break the Chanticleers momentum and force two turnovers that led to five Phoenix points. The Chants would put together three scoring runs of seven or more points in the second half, but each would ultimately be spoiled by Elon s up-tempo style of play that led to high percentage baskets in the paint. After being down by a many as 31 in the second half, Coastal continued to fight back as the Chants went on a final 22-9 run to close the Elon lead to 15 points before running out of time in the game. Coastal s 40 second half points ties the season high set in the season opening game against Southern Virginia. The Chanticleers bench also finished with a season high 26 points. Sydnei Moss finished with Coastal s first double-double of the season as she collected 11 points and 11 rebounds on the day. Freshman Alexx Puckett showed flashes of brilliance off the bench as she had the best game of her young career finishing with nine points and nine rebounds in 16 minutes of play. Elon s Ali Ford led all scorers in the contest with 21 points on 7-18 shooting while Kelsey Evans pulled down a game high 18 rebounds to go along with her 18 points.. The Chants finished shooting 34.3 percent from the field with a season high six three pointers, five of which came in the second half, in the game. GAME 5 Coastal Carolina vs Campbell 11-23-10 5:00 p.m. Conway, S.C. Kimbel Arena CONWAY- The Coastal Carolina women s basketball team toppled the visiting Campbell Camels by a final of 58-52 on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The victory breaks the Chanticleers two game skid and moves the team back over.500 with a 3-2 record on the young season. Campbell fell for the fifth time this season and sits 0-5 overall. The win was Coastal sixth consecutive over the Camels and 13th in the last 14 meetings between the two schools. The game saw Coastal s senior center Katie White establish a new career high in blocks as she rejected eight Campbell attempts on the night. The eight blocks moves her career total to 156. White also finished a perfect 4-of-4 from the field as she scored ten points, her most since dropping 11 against UNC Asheville on Feb. 8 of last season. Sydnei Moss also finished with her second double-double of the season as she led all scorers with 17 points and tied for a game-high 11 rebounds. Olivia Irick also set a new season-high mark with her 12 points as half came from behind the three point line. The Chants and Camels exchanged shots in the first five minutes of the game, but it was Coastal that settled in and went on a 5-0 run to take a 10-5 lead with 12:25 remaining in the half. Campbell then continued to battle back, but the Chants held strong as the Camels were only able to come within a point of the Coastal lead twice in the period. The Chanticleers took a lead into the half for the third time this season as the scoreboard in Kimbel Arena read 29-23. The Chants fired a season high 44.4 percent from the field in the half with Moss leading the way with nine points. Campbell came out of the locker room with authority as the Camels clamped down on the defensive end of the floor and forced five Coastal turnovers in the first 4:13 of play in the half. The turnovers resulted in seven points, five of which came from the charity stripe, to take their first lead of the night at 30-29. Irick ended Campbell s 12-0 run as she sank a 15 foot jumper to put th Chants on the board for the first time in the second half. Irick s shot ignited a 6-0 run by the Chants that included back-to-back jumpers by White to even the score at 35 all. After Campbell took a four point lead with 9:37 to play in the contest, Irick and Kira Carter connected on back-to-back three pointers to push the Chants in front for the first time in the second at a 43-41 score. The back and forth second half featured five lead changes and six ties before Coastal was able to take a final lead with 4:27 remaining in the game as Irick connected on both attempts from the line to give the Chants a 51-50 edge. Coastal would put the game out of reach with a final 7-2 run to end the game. The Chanticleers shot a season high 39.2 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc. The Chants finished with 36 rebounds on the night to continue the season long streak of pulling down at least 35 boards per game. In addition, the Chanticleers shot 14-of-18 from the free throw line for a season best 77.8 percent. GAME 6 Coastal Carolina vs Coker 11-28-10 2:00 p.m. Conway, S.C. Kimbel Arena CONWAY- The Coastal Carolina women s basketball team tamed the Coker Cobras to the tune of 78-25 in non-conference action on Sunday, Nov. 28 to pick up its fourth win on the season. The victory improves the Chants record to 4-2 while Coker falls to 0-5 on the season. With the win, Coastal continued its streak of defeating the Cobras each season since the Chants inaugural campaign of 1974-75. The Chanticleers impressed on the court against Coker from the beginning as the Katie White knocked the opening tip back to Taylor Epley and the Chants never looked back. Coastal got on the scoreboard early and often as the Chants finished 30-of-63 from the field for a season-high 47.6 percent including 50 percent in the second half. Thirteen of the Chants fourteen roster players scored points in the contest. Olivia Irick led all scorers with 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. Lauren Grochowski finished with a season high 10 points including a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Freshman Katelyn Connor scored her first points of the season as she finished with a near double-double at nine points and nine rebounds. Taylor Epley set a new career-high with nine rebounds to go along with her six points. On the defensive end of the floor, Coastal forced 24 turnovers while pulling down 41 rebounds. Coastal was able to hold the Cobras without a field goal from the 5:42 mark of the first half until the 12:43 mark of the second. Roberts Stadium EVANSVILLE, Ind.- Coastal Carolina women s basketball (4-3) fell to Central Michigan (5-2) 96-42 Friday (Dec. 3) evening at Evansville s Roberts Stadium in the opening game of the Heritage Federal Credit Union Aces Classic presented by Dunn Hospitality. Central Michigan came out of the locker room on fire as the Chippewas quickly jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest. Junior guard Kira Carter got the Chants on the board with a deep jumper with 16:18 remaining in the half to end Central Michigan s early run. The Chanticleers first six points, to open the contest, were from the hands of players that call the Hoosier state home. Carter, Shanika Maddox, and Taylor Epley were responsible for the shots that cut into the Central Michigan lead. Central Michigan led 48-17 at the half, as the Chippewas connected on 8-of-14 shots from three point land and 18-of-36 overall. After being held scoreless in the first half, freshman forward Kayla Cook connected on five shots in the second on her way to a team-high and careertying 11 points on the night. For the fifth time this season, the Big South s top rebounding team pulled down 40 plus rebounds as the team finished with 47 total boards (19 offensive and 28 defensive). Head Coach Alan LeForce used each player on the roster for the third time this season and second consecutive game. Each Chanticleer saw at least five minutes of playing time against the stout Central Michigan team. Central Michigan took advantage of Coastal turnovers, scoring 27 points off of the Chanticleer miscues. The Chippewas remained hot from behind the arc as the team ended the night shooting 56.5 percent from long range. Central Michigan had four players score in double figures. Shonda Long led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor. GAME 8 Coastal Carolina vs Valparaiso 12-4-10 1:00 p.m. Evansville, Ind. Roberts Stadium EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Chanticleer women s basketball suffered a heart breaking 59-52 overtime loss to Valparaiso in the second and final day of the Heritage Credit Union Aces Winter Classic presented by Dunn Hospitality on Saturday, Dec. 4. The loss drops the Chants to 4-4 on the season while Valpo improves to 2-5. Coastal Carolina and Valparaiso battled back and forth in the first half with neither team able to pull ahead by more than eight points. The half featured four lead changes and four ties as Valpo entered the locker room with a slight 30-27 lead. Coastal came out with an impressive defensive intensity after the half as the Chants held Valpo scoreless for the first 9:56 seconds, 0-12 from the field, of the half while on a 12-0 run of their own to take over and build a nine point advantage at a 39-30 score. During the Chanticleers run Sydnei Moss contributed six of her team-high 11 points while Olivia Irick, Kira Carter, and Taylor Epley each knocked down a shot. Valpo s Tabisha Gerardot broke the scoreless drought as she sank a three with just over 10 minutes remaining to bring the Crusaders back within six points. Gerardot then scored eight of Valpo s first 10 points of the second half to pull Valpo close. An Ashley Timmerman three at the 6:36 mark capped an 8-0 Crusader run, and gave Valpo the lead back 43-42. The Chants would hold the Crusaders scoreless for the three-and-a-half minutes before a pair of Betsy Adams free throws with 2:57 to play gave Valpo a 45-44 lead. Katie White sank the game tying free throw with 2:42 remaining, to end all scoring in regulation and send Coastal into its first overtime game of the season. Moss scored first for Coastal in the extra session, before Valpo answered with back-to-back baskets, giving the Crusaders a 49-47 advantage which they would not relinquish. Timmerman followed with a three-pointer, pushing the Valpo lead to five. White then added the Chants second field goal with 1:41 remaining in the overtime to cut the Valpo lead to three. The Crusaders then made five of six free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Three Chants finished in double figures as Moss had 11 while Irick and Kayla Cook each contributed 10 points. Moss also recorded her third doubledouble of the season as she pulled down 10 boards. White set a new career with 11 rebounds on the season and added seven blocked shots on the day. For the sixth time this season, the Big South s top rebounding team pulled down 40 plus rebounds as the team finished with 48 total boards (14 offensive and 34 defensive). Cook was named to the All-Aces Classic Tournament team as she scored 21 points in the two contests and ripped down five rebounds in 39 minutes of play. Kimbel Arena CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women s basketball team defeated the Converse Valkyries 86-33 in non-conference action on Sunday, Dec. 12 to pick up its fifth win on the season. The victory improves the Chants record to 5-4 while Converse falls to 0-8 on the season. With the win, Coastal improves to 7-0 all-time against the Valkyries and 49-19 against Conference Carolinas member institutions. The Chanticleers impressed on the court against Converse from the opening tip. The Chants jumped on the scoreboard early as Shanika Maddox scored on the opening possession as she slashed toward the basket and converted an easy layup. The Chants then stole an errant inbounds pass by Converse and Olivia Irick converted another layup for the first of her 12 points in game. Coastal then used a 33-4 run over the opening 11 minutes to put the game out of reach. The Chanticleers finished the game shooting a season-high 51.6 percent from the field and 88.2 percent from the charity stripe. Irick and Lauren Grochowski led all scorers with 12 points. Irick finished 5-of-8 from the field and pulled down two rebounds in her 16 minutes of play. Grochowski s 12 points came on 3-of-5 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line was a season-high and one off her career-high of 13. Grochowski also finished with a career-high tying two rejections. Point guard Kira Carter joined Irick and Grochowski in double figures as she contributed a career-high tying 11 points on 4-of-7 from the field including two baskets from long range. Taylor Epley established a new career-high with nine points in the contest. On the defensive end of the floor, Coastal forced 28 turnovers while pulling down 31 rebounds. The Chants were able to hold the Valkyries scoreless from the 18:33 mark until 11:02 to play in the opening half. During that stretch, Coastal built an insurmountable 26 point lead. The Chants finished with 45 total boards in the contest and is the eighth game this season that featured 40 plus rebounds. GAME 10 Coastal Carolina vs. UNC Wilmington 12-15-10 7:00 p.m. Conway, S.C. Kimbel Arena CONWAY- Coastal Carolina women s hoops was defeated by the visiting UNC Wilmington Seahawks by a final of 79-45 on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at Kimbel Arena. The loss was the first at home this season and drops the Chanticleers back to the.500 mark at 5-5, a third of the way through the season, as UNCW improves to 6-2 on the year with the victory. The first half saw the Chants overcome an early 17-7 deficit to climb back into the game on the hot shooting of Sydnei Moss as the team put together an impressive 18-6 run to take the lead for the first time in the game at the 6:50 mark. During the stretch Moss scored 10 points including two deep shots from beyond the arc. After taking the lead, Coastal and UNCW engaged in a back an forth battle as neither team was able take more than a five point lead before the final whistle of the half blew with the Chanticleer holding a slight 33-31 advantage on the Seahawks. Coastal shot 40.7 percent from the floor in the first half which was the highest percentage to open a game since shooting 44.4 percent in the fifth game of the season against Campbell. The Chants also connected on three shots from beyond the arc as Moss went 2-of-2 and Olivia Irick went 1-of-1. The second half belonged to UNC Wilmington as the Seahawks opened the period on a 29-5 run through the first eleven minutes to build a 21 point lead and all but put the game away. During the run, UNCW sank 12 of their 21 second half shots and four free throws. The Chants struggled to find the nylon in the second half as three of Coastal s first four shots found the rim, but would not drop through. As the night continued, Coastal would continue to struggle to make shots as the Chants only made five second half baskets. Coastal was led by Olivia Irick s career-high 18 points on 7-of-14 from the field with three treys. Moss was the only other Chants in double figures with 14 points. MB Convention Center MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina women s basketball team mounted a comeback from 13 points down to Butler in the second half but would ultimately fall to the Bulldogs 71-63 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in game one of the Carolinas Challenge. Coastal Carolina (5-6) battled back from a 52-39 deficit with 13:31 remaining in the game to bring the score within four points on five separate occasions, but could not come any closer as Butler (6-4) converted eight free throws down the stretch to close out the victory. The Chanticleers exchanged the lead with the Bulldogs 10 times through the first half before Butler ended the period on a 12-2 run to take a 38-28 advantage into the locker room at the intermission. Butler, who entered the game shooting 40.6 percent, connected on 12-of-22 shots attempts in the first half for 54.5 percent. The Chants shot a first half season-high 45 percent from the floor. After the break, Butler would twice build a game-high 13 point lead before the Sydnei Moss led Chanticleers would chip away at the margin. Coastal would use a 9-0 run, capped by a Kayla Cook layup, over 4:24 to trim the Butler lead to four for the first time in the half. On the ensuing possession, Butler s Chloe Hamilton would knock down a jumper to take away the Chanticleer momentum. Butler would run out to a nine point lead on the Chants with 6:25 remaining in the contest before Olivia Irick and Kayla Cook scored on back to back possessions to bring the lead back down to four with just under five minutes to play in the game. After Butler was able to extend out the lead to eight with 3:09 remaining, Coastal would make one final run. Taylor Epley was sent to the line where she would sink both free throws to close the Chanticleer deficit to six. Irick then forced a Butler turnover and fed a pass ahead to a streaking Moss who converted on the fastbreak layup to once again bring the Chants within four points of tying the game with 53 second left in the game. Butler would finally ice the game as the Bulldogs converted five free throws in the final minute to secure its sixth win of the season. Moss led the Chanticleers with a season-high 20 points with eight made baskets and four free throws. Moss point total marked the first time a Chanticleer had scored 20-plus points in a game since she scored 26 against Charleston Southern on March 12 of last season. Irick contributed 12 points in the game while Cook added 10. Coastal shot 45.8 percent from the floor, well above its season average of 33.9. The Chanticleers made the most of the 25 Butler miscues as the team scored a season-high 34 points off of the turnovers. Hodge Center SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Coastal Carolina women s hoops defeated the USC Upstate Spartans 70-62 on the hot shooting of Kira Carter and Katie White to pick up its sixth win of the season. The win improves the Chanticleers to.500 on the season at 6-6 and concludes the non-conference portion of the Chants season. Upstate falls to 5-5 on the season after suffering its first home defeat of the season. Just four minutes into the game Coastal s leading scorer, Sydnei Moss, went down with an injury but; Katie White and Kira Carter stepped up to the challenge of filling in for Moss 11 points per game as both recorded season-high scoring performances. Carter finished with a career-high 21 points while White quietly matched her career-high of 17 points in the contest. Coastal proved to be the dominating team from early on in the game as the Chants only trailed for a total of 2:12 in the first period. Olivia Irick set the Chanticleers season best shooting performance, 54 percent from the field, in motion early as she knocked down a deep three for the opening basket of the contest. Coastal used a 12-4 run over 6:03 in the first half to take command of the game for good to establish a 23-16 lead. During the run, Carter scored eight points with two coming from the charity stripe. The Chants led 30-24 at the half after shooting a solid 50 percent from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Coastal was led by White s nine points, a season one-half best, and Carter s eight points on 3-of-8 shooting. After the intermission, Coastal extended its lead out to as many as 18 thanks to a 17-5 run through the first six minutes of the stanza. Through the stretch, six different Chanticleers contributed points. USC Upstate mounted a comeback through the middle stages of the second half, but could not come within seven of the visiting Chants. Coastal then used eight free throws down the stretch to seal its final non-conference victory of the season. Carter s 21 points marked the third time she scored in double figures this season while Whites double digit performance was her second and far eclipsed her previous season best of 10 points. Irick also reached the double digit platform to mark the third time in four games that three Chants had scored 10-plus points in a game. The Chanticleers shot an impressive 27-of-50 from the floor, 73.7 percent from the line, while collecting 41 boards and forcing 16 Upstate turnovers. USC Upstate s Chelsea McMillan led all scorers in the contest with 23 points on 7-of-17 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the line. GAME 13 Coastal Carolina at Presbyterian College 1-3-11 7:00 p.m. Clinton, S.C. Templeton Center CLINTON, S.C.- Without its leading scorer, Sydnei Moss, the Coastal Carolina women s basketball team fell to the Presbyterian College Blue Hose by a 52-36 final in front of 307 fans at Presbyterian s Templeton Center. After taking a four point lead into the locker room at the half, the Chanticleers struggled to find the basket in the second half as the team opened the period on an extended scoring drought. Coastal started the game on a quick 11-4 run over the first five minutes of play. Presbyterian then countered with nine points of their own to cut the Chants margin to two at 15-13with 6:20 remaining in the half. After a media timeout near the four minute mark, Coastal got two quick baskets courteous of Shanika Maddox and Kayla Cook to extend the visitors lead to six. Kira Carter then made one of her three first half field goals to re-extend the lead to five after a Blue Hose had knocked down a three to slim the margin on the scoreboard. Olivia Irick scored the Chants final basket in the first half as she connected from long range to push the lead up to 24-18 with just over a minute remaining before the intermission. Presbyterian s Mariah Pietrowski scored the last basket of the first half to send the teams to the locker room with Coastal holding a 24-20 edge. Through the first half Coastal shot 11-of-29 from the floor for 37.9 percent as PC went 9-of-24 for 37.5 percent. The Blue Hose opened the second half on a 4-0 run to even the score at 24 apiece. Kristen Stevens then drained a three pointer to give Presbyterian its first lead of the game with 12:12 left in regulation. From that point on, PC would not relinquish the advantage on the scoreboard. Presbyterian would drag out its lead to as many as 21 points over the final ten minutes of play on its way to securing the home victory. Coastal s Carter and Irick were the top two scorers for the Chanticleers as both scored 10 points on a combined 8-of-22 from the floor. The Chanticleers finished the game shooting 27.8 percent from the floor while PC shot 40.4 percent. Presbyterian s Kristen Stevens sank four three pointers to lead all scorers in the contest with 12 points. GAME 14 Coastal Carolina vs. Charleston Southern 1-11-11 7:00 p.m. Conway, S.C. Kimbel Arena CONWAY Olivia Irick established a new career-high of 19 points, but the Coastal Carolina women s basketball team was unable to outlast Charleston Southern as the Chanticleers fell 60-53 in overtime at Kimbel Arena on Tuesday evening. Charleston Southern s Lakethia Alston drove to the basket for a layup with just 11 ticks off the board in overtime to give the Buccaneers a 52-50 advantage. Coastal s Irick responded with the last of her career-high 19 points with 2:32 left in the extra session to put the Chants back in front by one. Charleston Southern would then get three consecutive points from Lydia Johnson to put Coastal away for good. The Buccaneers would hit five free-throws down the stretch to extend its lead to seven at the final buzzer. Irick led all scorers in the contest with her 19 points with six field goals including three treys. It was the seventh consecutive double digit scoring outing for Irick and the tenth on the season. She now leads the team in total points with 147 on the year. Kira Carter contributed her fifth double figure scoring performance of the season as she chipped in 13 points. Charleston Southern was led in scoring by Alston s and Kelsey Wasmer s 15 points each. Coastal Carolina s tough defensive pressure held Charleston Southern s Katie Tull, who ranks third in the nation averaging 3.6 made threes per game, 0-of-7 from beyond the arc. In addition, the Chants held the Buccaneers, who rank sixth in the NCAA averaging 8.5 deep jumpers per contest, to only two made three pointers. Charleston Southern wasted little time getting on the board at the start of the second half, after two quick baskets from Tull and Kiki Rutledge the score was knotted at 29 all. The Chanticleers Irick then responded with five points of her own to put the Chants back on top. The Chanticleers would stay a basket ahead of the Buccaneers until Charleston Southern s Alston converted on a runner in the lane with 7:42 remaining to give the visitors their first lead since the 4:47 mark in the first half. Over the next five minutes of play, the teams would tie knot the score three times before Charleston Southern took a three point lead at 50-47 with 2:05 to play thanks to a layup by Tull and a free throw by Wasmer. On the ensuing possession, the Chants were able to even the score at 50 after an errant three pointer from Carter clanked off the rim and out to Katie Ahaus who spotted up for a deep three from the top of the key and sank her second shot of the evening with 1:19 remaining. After defensive stops on both ends of the floor, Charleston Southern s Helen Terry was stripped by Carter with three seconds to play. After a timeout by head coach Alan LeForce, Katie White missed a 10 foot jumper on the final shot of regulation to send the game into overtime. With Coastal holding onto a slim 10-9 lead with just over 12 minutes to play in the first half, Irick sliced her way through two Charleston Southern defenders and connected on an underhanded shot as she was fouled. Irick missed the ensuing free throw, but the Chanticleers collected the loose ball. Angelica Henry then found Irick wide open for three making it a five point possession and pushing the Coastal lead to six at 15-9. The two teams continued to battle on throughout the first period as Coastal was able to take as much as an eight point lead before Charleston would make a run of their own to retake a two point advantage. Coastal would finish the half on a 5-2 run to take a 29-25 advantage into the intermission. GAME 15 Coastal Carolina vs. UNC Asheville 1-15-11 2:00 p.m. Conway, S.C. Kimbel Arena CONWAY After missing two games with an injury, Sydnei Moss picked up where she left off as she returned to the Coastal Carolina starting lineup and led the Chanticleers with ten points; but it was visiting UNC Asheville who picked up the 65-53 victory at Kimbel Arena on Saturday, Jan. 15. With the loss Coastal Carolina falls to 6-9 (0-3, Big South) and UNC Asheville improves to 8-7 (1-3, Big South) on the year. Moss shot 33.3 percent form the floor and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe in her first action of the calendar year. She also pulled down seven boards in her 29 minutes on the court. Once again Coastal held its opposition below its season shooting average as the Chants held UNC Asheville, who entered the contest shooting 40.8 percent, to just 37.9 percent from the floor. The Chanticleers also managed to hold Asheville s Kendall Shepard below her Big South leading 14.4 points per game. Asheville finished the game with four players in double figures as Shepard and Lindsey Montgomery each had 13 followed by Kelli Riles 12 and Lindsey Thompson s 11 points. Following Moss 10 points for the Chanticleers were juniors Olivia Irick and Kira Carter with eight points each. UNC Asheville opened the game on a 5-0 run before Taylor Epley was able to stall the Bulldogs momentum and get the Chanticleers on the board with a 12 foot jumper in the second minute of the game. Asheville would continue to shoot well and pull its lead out to as many as 11 throughout the first period of play. Coastal s Olivia Irick sank a three from the wing with a 37 second remaining in the half to knock the Asheville lead down to eight heading into the locker room for the intermission. Through the first ten minutes of the second half, the two teams traded baskets as the Chants were unable to come within more than eight of the Asheville lead. Over the next 2:53, the Bulldogs would use a 8-1 run to pull out to a gamehigh 15 point lead with 8:08 remaining in the game. Once again Coastal would fight back and cut the visitors lead to 10 points with 5:24 remaining. Kimbel Arena CONWAY The Coastal Carolina women s basketball team fell to Gardner- Webb 45-34 in Big South Conference action on Monday, Jan. 17 at Kimbel Arena. The setback drops Coastal to 6-10 (0-4, Big South) on the season, while Gardner-Webb, who entered the game ranked 21 in the CollegeInsider Mid- Major Top 25, improves to 12-6 (4-1, Big South). Coastal Carolina s freshman Shanika Maddox opened the scoring in contest as she converted the front end of a one-and-one after being fouled just 22 seconds after tip-off. Over the next 13 minutes Gardner-Webb would pull out to as much as an eight point lead over the home team. The Chants would battle back to cut the Runnin Bulldogs lead down to four points heading into the intermission. After halftime Sydnei Moss brought the Chants within two points of Gardner-Webb s lead at 20-18 as she tipped in the rebound off a Katie Ahaus jumper that rimmed out. From that point on it was all Gardner-Webb as the Runnin Bulldogs used a 22-6 run to go up by 18 points and pull away from the Chanticleers for good. The Chants finished the game on a 10-3 run over the final 2:50 of play to close Gardner-Webb s advantage to eleven at the final buzzer. Millis Center HIGH POINT, N.C. - Despite its best shooting performance of the Big South season, the Coastal Carolina women s basketball team was unable to escape High Point with a victory; falling to the Panthers 80-66 on Saturday, Jan. 22. The defeat drops the Chanticleers to 6-11 (0-5, Big South) as the win improves High Point to 8-11 (2-3, Big South) overall. High Point used a 51.6 shooting percentage to keep the Chanticleers out of the contest each time Coastal attempted to cut into the Panther s lead. High Point was also deadly from long range on the evening shooting 43.5 percent from beyond the arc. Shamia Brown paced High Point in the contest with a game-high 18 points. Joining Brown in double figures for the Panthers were Cheyenne Parker and Jurica Hargraves with 13 points each along with LaTeisha Dean with 11. Coastal Carolina shot a Big South season-high 47.4 percent from the floor as 27-of-57 shots found the bottom of the net. The Chants were led by Sydnei Moss 11 points on 5-of-9 from the field. Taylor Epley contributed a career-high 10 points. Kayla Cook also scored 10 points for the fifth time in her young career. It was the first time since Dec. 30 at USC Upstate that three Chanticleers scored in double figures. Angelica Henry and Jessica Noll were near the ten point platform with nine points apiece. High Point opened the first five minutes of the second half on a 12-6 run to open up a 52-36 advantage on the Chanticleers. Over the next five minutes of play the two teams would exchange scores as High Point would answer each Chanticleer run with a big three pointer on the other end of the floor. Throughout the remainder of the game the Chants would come no closer then 11 points of High Points lead. In the first half, Coastal closed High Point s lead to one point at 12-11, before the Panthers would respond with an 18-8 run over the next six minutes of play to pull out an 11 point lead with 4:24 remaining in the period. Coastal was able to cut the High Point advantage down to six points with a 5-0 run before the Panthers Erin Reynolds knocked down treys on back-to-back possessions to restore the home team s lead to double digits. Vines Center LYNCHBURG, VA. - The Coastal Carolina women s basketball team rallied from as many as 12 points down in the second half at Liberty on Monday evening, but would eventually fall to the Flames 58-54. Coastal Carolina, 6-12 (0-6 Big South), used eight made three pointers in the contest to hang tight with Liberty, 11-8 (5-1 Big South), down to the final seconds before two Avery Warley free throws sealed the Flames win. Warley led all scorers in the contest with 14 points and had the games only doubledouble as she grabbed 13 boards. Jelena Antic and Devon Brown each contributed 11 of Liberty s 58 points. The Chanticleers were paced by Kira Carter s 12 points on 4-of-8 from the field with a three pointer. Sydnei Moss also reached double figures with 11 points on the night. Sharpshooter Jessica Noll finished her second consecutive game with nine points as all of her points came from long range. After falling behind Liberty by 12 points early in the second half, Carter converted an old fashioned three-point play as she was fouled while shooting. The points would spark Coastal s comeback attempt throughout the remainder of the second half. Kayla Cook would contribute five of the Chants points during a 9-2 run over the next 5:45 to close the Liberty advantage to four points and give Coastal a chance to win the game with just over four minutes remaining on the game clock. Liberty s Rachael McLeod would slow the Chanticleers momentum as she connected on a runner in the lane to restore the Flame s lead to six at 51-45. On Coastal s next possession, Olivia Irick connected on a three at the top of the key to put Liberty back on the ropes. The Flames Tolu Omotola scored on Liberty s ensuing possession. Moss then hit another three to make it a one possession game at 53-51 with just over two minutes to play. Liberty s Jelena Antic hit the front end of a one-and-one at the free throw line to give the home team a three point lead with 1:46 remaining. On the Chanticleers next possession Katie White, who became the Big South s eighth all-time leading shot blocker with her three blocks on the evening, was rejected on a layup by Warley. After Warley made both foul shots with 33.3 seconds left, Moss scored the Chanticleers eighth and final three of the night to pull the Chants within two at 56-54. Warley would finish off the game from the free throw line to seal the Flames fifth conference victory. Trailing Liberty 17-8 after a media timeout with 11:45 until the half, the Coastal s Lauren Grochowski and Noll combined for eight consecutive points to cut the Flames lead to 22-16. GAME 19 Coastal Carolina at Radford 1-29-11 3:00 p.m. Radford, Va. Dedmon Center RADFORD, Va. - For the second time in as many games the Coastal Carolina women s basketball team went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the Big South Conference but didn t have enough for league leading Radford as the Chanticleers fell 66-55. Coastal Carolina s, 6-13 (0-7 Big South), Olivia Irick led all scorers in the game as she established a new career-high of 21 points. Sydnei Moss also contributed heavily as she notched her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Radford, 10-11 (7-1 Big South), was paced by Ashley Buckhannon s 18 points. Da Naria Erwin Spencer and Denay Wood reached double figures scoring 13 and 11 points respectively. With time winding down in the first half Radford s Brooke McElroy elevated for a three pointer at the top of the key and was immediately rejected by senior center Katie White. The rejection sent White to the top of Coastal Carolina s all-time blocked shots list with 190 surpassing Chanticleer great Sandra Leach s career total of 189 set from 1979-83. White would record one additional block in the second half to finish with seven in the game and 191 in her career. The Chants opened the second half with a 7-2 run to cut the Radford lead down to 27-24 with just over 15 remaining in the contest. The Highlanders would respond a 5-2 run of its own to retake a six point advantage. Over the next seven minutes, Irick and Moss would be responsible for every point of the Chants 13-7 run to knot the score at 39. Radford would then use a 12-3 run, with all but two of the points coming from the charity stripe, to pull away from the Chants on the scoreboard at 51-43. During that stretch, Coastal was unable to bring the ball across half court for nearly 2:30 of play. Irick connected on her fourth and final three pointer of the game to trim Coastal s deficit to five with 2:42 to play, but Radford s Ashley Beckhannon and Erwin Spencer quickly converted layups on ensuing possessions to halt any mounting Coastal momentum. The Highlanders then extended the lead to 12, its highest of the game, with a trey by Denay Wood to put away the game. Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half, but it was the Highlanders who would eventually find its stroke and finish the half with an edge in shooting percentage and the lead on the scoreboard at 25-17. Winthrop Coliseum ROCK HILL, S.C. - Led by Sydnei Moss second consecutive double-double performance and Katie White s four blocked shots and numerous shot alterations, the Coastal Carolina women s basketball team snapped its seven game losing streak in dominating fashion to upend Winthrop 48-29. Winthrop, 9-11 (3-5, Big South), scored on its first possession in the game to take the early lead, but from there on out it was all Coastal Carolina, 7-13 (1-7, Big South), as the Chanticleers bested the Eagles in nearly every statistical category and earned their first Big South Conference win this season. Winthop s 29 points were the third fewest scored by the Eagles at home in the history of Winthrop Coliseum and the lowest allowed by the Chanticleers in a Big South contest. Moss led all scorers in the contest with 18 points while Olivia Irick and Jessica Noll contributed ten and eight points respectively. Moss also pulled down a careerhigh 15 boards and tied a career-high with six thefts. The Chants shot 36.2 percent for the game and continued its improvement from the free throw line making 11-of-16 shots for 68.8 percent. Coastal also picked off eight Winthrop passes and dished out 10 helpers. Winthrop was paced by Dequesha McClanahan s nine points. Marry Hathaway collected 13 rebounds in the defeat. The Eagles shot a dismal 12-of-60 from the floor for 20.0 percent and only 6.3 percent from deep (1-of-16). Coastal opened up the second half on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to eleven at 27-16 after just 2:10 had elapsed off the game clock. Noll had five points during the burst and Moss added two. Over the next eleven minutes of play the stingy Chanticleer defense limited the Eagles to only six points while continuing to force turnovers and ill advised shots. During the stretch Coastal would use an 11-6 scoring run to take a 38-22 advantage with 6:45 to play. The advantage was the Chants largest since holding an 18 point advantage in its last victory at USC Upstate on Dec. 30. Coastal stormed out to an eight point advantage early in the first half to put the Eagles down 12-4. The Chants then kept Winthrop without a made field goal for 10:06 while forcing six turnovers that led to three Coastal points. Winthrop would use layups on back-to-back possessions to pull within four with just under four minutes remaining in the stanza, but Moss answered on the offensive end with an 18 foot jumper to put Coastal back on top by a score of 16-10. Kimbel Arena CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women s basketball team used four three pointers in the second half to overcome a four point deficit and down the Presbyterian College Blue Hose 47-34 to pick up its second consecutive conference win. Coastal Carolina, 8-13 (2-7 Big South), has now won back-to-back games by double-digits for the first time this season while holding both opponents under 35 points. Olivia Irick paced all scorers in the game with 12 points. It was Irick s 13th double-digit scoring effort of the season, a Coastal Carolina team-high. Jessica Noll was Coastal s top rebounder for the first time this season as she matched her season-high with seven boards. Presbyterian College, 6-15 (3-6 Big South), was led by Mariah Pietrowski s 11 points and Sherece Smith s nine boards. The Chanticleers finished the afternoon shooting 31.6 percent from the floor, 31.3 percent from three, and 42.9 percent from the free throw line. The Blue Hose shot 25 percent from the field, its third worse performance of the year, and 15 percent (3-of-20) from three point land. Presbyterian College opened the second half on an 8-4 run over the first six minutes of play to cut the Coastal Carolina lead to 25-24. After several missed opportunities by both teams, the Blue Hose s Sherece Smith drained a jumper to give Presbyterina College its first lead of the game at 26-25. On its next possession, the Blue Hose widened its lead as Amanda Mills connected on a deep trey. The Chants Irick answered on the team s ensuing possession as she made her first three pointer of the contest from the right wing to bring the home team back within a point at 29-28. Following a media timeout, Katie White and Sydnei Moss used back to back possessions to put the Chanticleers back in front. White s eight foot jumper was her first basket of the game while Moss three was the Chants third triple of the game. Two trips down the floor later Katie Ahaus connected from long range to cap the home team s 11-0 run and give Coastal a 36-29 lead with 4:43 left to play. Coastal Carolina would finish the game on a 11-5 run with four of those points coming from Irick at the free throw line in the final 38 seconds. With the Coastal holding a slight 8-6 edge on the scoreboard with 12 minutes remaining in the first half, the Chants used a 10-5 run over the next eight minutes to open up the lead to 18-11. Presbyterian College would use a 5-3 scoring run of its own to close out then half and trim the Chanticleers lead to 21-16 heading into the locker rooms. Prior to the start of the game, White was presented a game ball by Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek and head coach Alan LeForce for her achievement of becoming Coastal Carolina s all-time blocked shots leader on Jan. 29 against Radford.
