Events 3, 4 and 5 will be used to primarily to gain qualification for the National Youth and Age Group Open Water Championships to be held at Rother Valley Park on Sat/Sun 21/22 Jul 2012. The winner of each regional event, male and female, will automatically gain a place to represent their region at the National event. Thus to stand a chance of representing your region swimmers must enter the appropriate distance for their age. The age for these events is calculated as the age on 26 July 2012. ENTRIES CLOSE ON 18th JUNE 2012 All swimmers under the age of 18 must be under the supervision of a club coach, designated club official, parent or guardian at all times whilst the competitor is in the vicinity of the swimming venue. Registration for the 5km starts at 0800, all other events registration starts at 1000 Please note: -swimmers not attending the briefing will not be allowed to swim 2

Any queries should be raised with the ASA South West Region Open Water Secretary. 1) I am aware of the need to seek appropriate medical advice if I have any concerns as to the state of my health. 2) I have not been informed by any medical practitioner and I do not have any knowledge of any medical condition which would make it inadvisable for me to participate in Open Water Swimming events or any other associated activities. Accordingly I hereby certify that I am physically fit and well to participate in any such training and events. 3) I am aware of and appreciate the inherent risks involved in such training and competition including the possibilities of injury and accident. I undertake to always conduct myself in a responsible and professional manner. 4) I undertake at all times to use my best endeavour to train and compete in a safe and proper manner and not to do anything which would expose myself or fellow swimmers to unnecessary risk or injury. 5) I further undertake at all times to take all reasonable safety measures for the protection of myself and fellow swimmers and to inform the referee of any concerns I may have as regards safety. 6) I acknowledge that, during Open Water swimming events, the ASA South West Region cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings and that I must take all reasonable steps against any such loss or damage. 7) I hereby agree to abide by and be governed by the rules of the Amateur Swimming Association and all other laws and regulations applicable including the ASA safety laws and the conditions of the ASA South West Region. 8) I have read and understood the above provisions and agree to abide by them. ASA SOUTH WEST REGION OPEN WATER SWIMMING (UNDER ASA LAWS and ASA TECHNICAL RULES) 1) The 5km Championships. CHAMPIONSHIP CONDITIONS i. The championship is open to registered members of clubs affiliated to the ASA, the Scottish ASA, the Welsh ASA or registered members of clubs from Countries that are affiliated to FINA. Non- registered swimmers may apply for ASA registration for the day. i iv. 2) Entries Competitors must be 13 years of age as of 31st December in the year of competition to enter the Championship event. Registered swimmers shall have joined their club at least 60 days prior to the date of the competition. A swimmer entering the junior championship must be under 17 years of age on 31 st December in the year of competition. i. Entries will only be accepted when received by the organiser on or before the closing date on the official entry form together with the entry fee. All competitors must read and sign the document on the back of the entry form. 3) The Championships are freestyle and will be swum as a combined Senior and Junior event as:- 4) Awards i. Junior: Under 17yrs Senior: 17-29yrs, 30-39yrs, 40-49yrs, and 50yrs and over. i. The first three placed competitors in the Senior and junior events, male and female, shall each receive a suitable award. i The first three placed ASASWR competitors in the Senior and junior events, male and female, shall each receive a suitable award. Certificates will be awarded to all competitors who finish the course. 5) A time limit of 2 ½ hours, after the start, will be applied. 6) Competitors will and have their competitor number written on both shoulders, upper arms and on the back of both hands. They must call out their numbers when passing the turns on each circuit. 7) All competitors must wear the swim hat provided. 8) No swimmer shall be permitted to use or wear any device which may be an aid to their speed, endurance or buoyancy. Goggles, cap, nose clip and earplugs may be used. 9) Swimmers shall be allowed to use grease or other such substances providing these are not, in the opinion of the referee, excessive. 10) Only the official safety boats and canoes will be allowed on the course. Competitors are not allowed to have a coach or supporter in their own canoes. 11) If, due to inclement weather, the championships have to be cancelled the organisers will make every effort to re-run the event on another date. If this is not possible, then after all expenses have been paid, a percentage of the entry fee may be refunded. 12) Protests shall be made and dealt with as detailed in ASA Law. 13) Any matters not provided for in these conditions shall be decided by the ASA SW Regional Management Board.
