Royal Russell s Athletes Shine at Croydon Arena A busy and boiling hot week of athletics concluded with the Croydon Schools Finals at Croydon Arena on Wednesday evening. Every single girl in the team made it to the finals and the boys had a very strong representation across the year groups too. The evening started superbly with the boys winning their sprint relay semi-final. Leo and Olivia then followed this with impressive runs to qualify for the 75 metre finals. Whilst this was going on, there was action all around the track as the field events kicked off. Check out the incredible achievements of our team below.

National Swimming Finals in Sheffield The team enjoyed the fantastic experience of the National finals in Sheffield. The girls team were up first and needed a good time to secure a place in one of the finals. After a tense start they settled and all swam well, the time being 3 seconds quicker than their qualifier. It was so close and we recounted the times several times to make sure! We had just scrapped into the B final- phew! There was now nothing to lose and the girls had to give it 100% which they did! We were all delighted with a 4 th place finish equivalent to 12 th Nationally- a truly amazing result. The boys had a rather long wait until their race however were excited and ready to swim. The competition was tough and the boys all swam very well, it was too close to call at the end so we had to wait for the official results! The boys too swam a 3 second team best and finished a credible 22 nd nationally, well done.

Farringtons Biathlon A 12 strong team headed to Farringtons school for their annual Biathlon competition. The Y6 boys were up first, they all swam solid swims and ran well to finish as a team in 3rd. Individually Ethan7th, Jack was 8th, Ollie 11th and Thomas 18th. Millie & Islay joined Eivie & Yasmin to make a strong team in the Y6 event, after fantastic swims and great runs the girls finished a credible 2nd! With Eivie 4th, Yasmin 6th, Islay 12th and Millie 15th. Finally the Y5 boys were off and once again swam and ran brilliantly to finish 3rd in the team event. Ollie was 6th, Gabriel closely behind in 7th, Tosin 13th and Stan 15th.

House Rounders Well done to the Y5/6 girls playing some excellent Rounders in the hotly contested House Rounders competition. There were very close matches with draws and narrow wins however finally York were victorious winning all there matches. Congratulations York a well deserved win followed by Canterbury, Durham & Exeter.

U11 Mixed Rounders Tournament Royal Russell hosted the U11 mixed Rounders qualifier hosting 8 schools. It was Mrs Lloyd's Royal Hitters and Miss Henderson's Royal Catchers who played 3 games initially. The Hitters won all 3 games and the Catchers won 2 out of 3 games in the qualifying stages. Both teams demonstrated excellent batting and fielding skills with catches, huge throws and outs all over the place. With one final match to play it was a show down between the two teams for a place in the final, the Hitters got off to a solid start scoring 9 Rounders! Despite some great batting and excellent risk taking the Catchers couldn't catch up! Congratulations to the A team heading through to the final and to the B team who finished in a very credible 3rd place.

Aquathlon Thursday 29 th June 4-5pm Would you like to take part in an AQUATHLON (swim and run!) we are hosting another exciting one at RR. Anyone from Y3-6 is welcome to enter you just need to let MRS LLOYD know by emailing or signing up on the lobby board llloyd@royalrussell.co.uk Year 3 will swim 50m, Y4 75m and Y5/6 100m. You will then run around North pitch next to the Netball courts once for Y3/4 and twice times for Y5/6.

AQUATHLON: What you need: Swim suit and goggles to swim in and a pair of trainers to run in. A basket to hold their belongings is optional. Pupils will have a number marked on their arm in permanent marker (don t worry it will scrub off!) They will swim the set distance, get out of the pool, put on their trainers and an athletics vest and run off around the pitch (no drying off in between just like the pros) Once they have crossed the finish line they will return to the pool to get changed. If any parents are available to help please let me know. Numbers will be limited if we get lots of entries so please let me know asap if your son or daughter would like to take part. Many thanks, Mrs Lloyd

Thanks for your incredible support of the Flight Centre Schools Triathlon 2017! On behalf of Restless Development we want to say another huge thank you to all pupils from Royal Russell who took part in the Flight Centre Schools Triathlon held at Royal Russell and in particular for their fantastic fundraising efforts. Overall the Schools Triathlon event series raised over 270,000, and saw over 2500 children take part over 4 events. With this incredible support, it has meant that Restless Development is able to support the ambition of more young people locally and around the world. Role models like Bawhani, who beat the odds to complete her education then took a leading role in the response to the Nepal earthquake. Pupils from Royal Russell School should be very proud of their amazing achievement as together they raised 13,175, which will be split between Restless Development and Help for Heroes. In particular, special mention should go to teams All Stars (Evan, Zac, Arthur and Harvey), Starburst (Cassandra, Amy, Yasmin and Eivie) and Conquerers (Charlotte, Lara, Rayhan and Cameron) who went above and beyond with their fundraising efforts by raising over 1000, 900 and 600 respectively. There were also some stellar individuals as well: Hanna Ratip and Jasmine Rihal who raised over 850 and 500. Extra congratulations are in order for team All Stars, as they made it into the top 5 fundraising teams from Royal Russell (from over 130 teams) and in the top 20 teams from the overall series which saw over 600 teams take part Thanks again for all your support. We are looking forward to next year s event at Royal Russell and hope you all enjoy the summer holidays. Best Wishes Schools Triathlon Team.
