2018 YEAR END FINALS SHOW RULES, POLICIES AND NOTES Show is judged according to the West Coast Horse Show Rulebook, except where noted below. Copies are available online at californiastatehorsemen.org. Age of Horse or Rider as of January 1 st. All persons whether showing or not, must sign a release form and wear a wristband before handling a horse or riding on event grounds. English riders may ride either Hunt Seat or Saddle Seat. All English riders must wear an ASTM approved hunt cap or helmet with the harness securely fastened when competing. Saddle Seat riders are exempted. Helmets are acceptable for Western riders. High Point Category Classes: Halter Overall: 4,5,6,7,8 Reining Overall: Highest single score Lead Line English/Western: 9, 10, 11 English 10 & under: 48, 52, 56, 79 English 17 & under: 49, 53, 57, 60, 63, 80 English 18 & over/aa: 50, 54, 58, 61, 64, 81 English Open: 51, 55, 59, 62, 65, 82 Ranch 17 & under: 30, 33, 36, 39, 42, 73, 76 Ranch 18 & over/aa: 31, 34, 37, 40, 43, 74, 77 Ranch Open: 32, 35, 38, 41, 44, 75, 78 Western 10 & under: 12, 16, 20, 66 Western 17 & under: 13, 17, 21, 24, 27, 67, 70 Western 18 & over/aa: 14, 18, 22, 25, 28, 68, 71 Western Open: 15, 19, 23, 26, 29, 69, 72 Western Bit Rules: Horses 5 yrs and younger are allowed to be ridden two handed in a snaffle bit, hackamore or bosal. Horses 6 yrs and older must be ridden one handed in a standard western bit. Exception: Green Horse/Rider competitors in their first or second year of showing. Lead Line Classes: Riders must have lead ropes connected to halters that are either over or under the bridle/headstall. Rider s feet must be in stirrups. Handlers must be 13 years or older. Reining classes are to be ridden and judged under NRHA rules and patterns. Ranch Horse Classes are similar to Western classes except that ranch horses are those that do not fit into the typical Western Pleasure style. Horses are ridden in plain tack and saddles. Riders wear simple western long sleeve shirts and jeans. Chaps are optional. Hoof polish and tail extensions are not allowed. Excessive silver on saddles and bridles are discouraged. Horses traveling excessively slow and not exhibiting clear gaits will be penalized. Judges are looking for a more naturally looking forward-moving horse. Extended jog and lope are included gaits. Awards: Placing through 10 th place. Medals will be awarded 1 st thru 3 rd place. Ribbons will be awarded 4 th thru 6 th place. Additional ribbons will be awarded 7 th thru 10 th at the discretion of show management. Daily high point awards: Championship Ribbons and prizes will only be given for categories with two or more riders competing. Champions will be announced but the presentation of awards will be made at a later date after an audit of all placings and points is conducted by a special audit committee. Points are for horse and rider/handler combination. Ties will be broken based on the most firsts. If this does not break the tie, the next evaluation will be the most firsts with the fewest number of total classes, then by random draw. Judge s decisions are final. Do not approach the judge without permission from management. Exhibitor numbers are assigned to the horse and rider/handler combination. They must be visible and displayed on your back or both sides of the saddle pad. Switching of numbers or horses are grounds for disqualification. Food and beverages are available on site. Gate calls will be enforced. No refunds for missed classes. For tack changes, let the ring steward or announcer know at least 1 class ahead of time. Classes will pre-load. Management reserves the right to combine, split or cancel classes as necessary. If you intend to add or drop classes, leave an open check. NO REFUNDS unless the horse or rider/handler is sick or injured. You must submit a Vet or Dr s certificate to management up to five days (postmarked) from the date of the show. No Rain Date. Show will go on in the rain at management s discretion. All monies will be refunded if the show is cancelled. All dogs must be on leash.
