Volume 12, Issue 2 October 2015 Prepared by Holli Allway President s Corner By Kelly Wooley Autumn has finally found us! I hope October finds you settled into the comfortable routine of school and fall activities. The PTA has already wrapped up a few events with more fun things planned this month. Movie Under the Stars was a blast with a lot of families joining us for Wreck It Ralph. The weather was absolutely perfect to take in an evening movie outdoors. Thank you to chairs Mary Elliott and Debbi Zisko and the parent volunteers for putting on a great event! Grandparents Day was also a huge success and I m always amazed by how many grandparents and special friends are able to visit the school. Event chair Linda Streaker organized a wonderful day and all of our parent volunteers helped coordinate and direct our guests. Thank you to everyone who was there that day to make sure everything went smoothly, I know all of our guests enjoyed their visit. BELMONT STATION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PTA Newsletter Coming up this month we have our first PTA Social of the year at Old Ox Brewery (44652 Guilford Rd) on Friday, October 16th at 6:30. To make it easier for you to come, we ve teamed up with TopKick, who is hosting a Parents Night Out. The flyer for PNO may be found on our website, but registration closes Wednesday, October 14 th. Please join us to see old friends or make some new ones! Also this month we have our traditional Kooky Spooky Bingo night on Friday, October 23 rd at 6:00. This is a family friendly event that is always a lot of fun. We would like to remind parents that children are to be supervised at all times. We want to leave the school exactly how we found it, and no staff should have to come in on Monday morning to a mess. We appreciate your understanding in this matter. Finally, PTA Reflections contest submissions are due on Friday, October 30 th. We are currently working with the school to implement a LCPS sanctioned program called Food Recovery. This program would allow us to collect unopened, perishable food (milk, yogurt, etc) that would otherwise be thrown away, and store it in a refrigerator. Once a week a local food bank will come to pick up the items. This will help alleviate the literally tons of food waste generated by Loudoun County schools each year. The first step in the process is to get a refrigerator that we can keep in the cafeteria. If you have a refrigerator that you are willing to donate, please email me at kmwooley@yahoo.com. It does not need to be a full size refrigerator but definitely bigger than a dorm fridge. I really believe in this program and look forward to establishing it at our school! We are finishing up our big membership drive and I am pleased to share that we already have almost 300 members! The PTA is only as strong as its membership, and without your support, we would not be able to accomplish all that we have for the school. If you would still like to join (it s not too late!), please go to our website: http://belmontstation.my-pta.org/content.asp? PageID=8 All the BeST, Kelly
