All State Fair Entries Please have all State Fair entries to either the Phillipsburg or Stockton Extension Office by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018. State Fair Entry Pick-Up State Fair Entries can be picked up on September 18, 2018. Please pick up your entries at the Extension Office as soon as possible. Thank You! Thank You Thank you to all of the superintendents, volunteers, parents, sponsors and 4-H members that made the Phillips County Fair and the Rooks County Free Fair a success. We greatly appreciate your assistance and support. Thank You Notes A reminder to all 4-H ers to please thank those that have assisted you with your projects and those that sponsored awards you may have received at county fair. They would appreciate a thank you note. You may purchase 4-H Thank You notes at the Extension Office for $0.25 apiece. Record Books, Kansas Award Portfolios and Pin Applications Record books, KAP (Kansas Award Portfolio) and Pin Application deadline is fast approaching. 4-H Club and County Projects The 4-H Club and County Projects Financial Review will be held: Monday, October 8, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harding Hall 4-H Building. Monday, October 29, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Phillips County Fair Building. Please bring the 4-H Club s treasurer book and financial statements. The club s treasurer as well as an adult representative needs to be present and will assist in looking at other club and county projects financial records. 4-H Online Enrollment The 2018-19 4-H online enrollments will open October 1, 2018. ALL new and returning 4-H members must complete the enrollment and health form on-line at https://ks.4honline.com. Make sure all contact information is accurate. The information entered during this enrollment process will be the information used to get important 4-H information to all members including monthly 4-H newsletters. Please have the online re-enrollment process complete by November 1, 2018. Contact the Phillipsburg or Stockton Extension office with any questions. Shooting Sports Project Shotguns If you are interested in participating in the Shotgun project, contact Anthony Imm at 785-302-1618 for more information.

National 4-H Week National 4-H week is October 7-13, 2018. Please make plans to promote the 4-H program and recruit new members. Check out the 4-H website at www.kansas4-h.org and encourage others to check it out too! In addition to 4-H Sunday (First Christian Church, Phillipsburg) and Radio spots (KQMA/KKAN), remember to wear your 4-H Club shirts or any other 4-H shirts you may have that week. 4-H Sunday 4-H Sunday will be held at the First Christian Church, Phillipsburg Kansas on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. The 4-H Council is looking for volunteers to help with 4-H Sunday. We need 5 ushers and 4 greeters. It is recommended that volunteers be from different clubs. If you are interested in helping with 4-H Sunday please contact the Extension Office by September 24, 2018. 48 Hours of 4-H OCTOBER 13-14, 2018 Join us this fall in seeing just how much we can give back to our communities! The weekend after National 4-H Week, is the perfect opportunity to setup a service project. Invite your friends, clubs, adult volunteers and 4-H Alums too! Find all the information at Kansas 4-h.org and start planning your projects. 2019 Discovery Days Task Force If you enjoy attending Discovery Days, consider applying to be on the Discovery Days Task Force! The Task Force Youth will meet once in December and then will have several conference calls throughout the year. They will arrive to Manhattan the day before Discovery Days begins to help set up and will provide leadership throughout that week. Applications are due October 1, 2018. The application can be found on the Discovery Days webpage. 4-H Leadership Weekend Kansas Youth Leadership Forum (KYLF) It s time to register for the 19 th Annual Kansas Youth Leadership Forum. The Kansas Youth Leadership Forum (KYLF) and the Kansas 4-H Volunteer Forum will be held November 17-18, 2018 at Rock Springs 4-H Center. KYLF is for youth ages 14-18 before January 1, 2019 and KVF is for all Kansas 4-H Volunteers. KYLF will feature leadership workshops, Youth Council Elections, and opportunities to learn and have fun. The Kansas 4-H Volunteer Forum will include workshops, opportunities for networking and sharing resources. Joint activities between the two Forums will include the keynote speaker and the inspirational program. Online Registration is available now. This year participants in both forums will register through the same system. Registration deadline is October 15, 2018 for both events. 2019 Kansas Youth Leadership Council Application information is available on the KYLF webpage on the State 4-H Website. Any Kansas 4- H member between the ages of 14 and 18 before January 1, 2019 may apply. This year's delegation will elect representatives from the four extension program areas (NE, NW, SE, and SW). Youth Council members work to involve youth with K- State Research and Extension in promoting, developing, implementing and evaluating Kansas Extension 4-H Youth Development programs in order to reflect the needs and interests of the youth in the state. Council members will also plan and conduct the Kansas Youth Leadership Forum, Citizenship in Action, Campference and other state 4-H events. All outstanding young leaders are encouraged to apply. Applications are due on October 1, 2018 before 5 p.m. CST. 12 young people per area will be invited to interview by Zoom (only video) prior to KYLF. From those that interview, up to 6 candidates will be selected to be in the election.

2019 National 4-H Conference The National 4-H Conference will be April 6-11, 2019 at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The National 4-H Conference is a working conference in which youth and adults, at the invitation of the Secretary of Agriculture, assist in the development of recommendations to help guide 4-H Youth Development programs nationally and in their communities. This event brings together youth, volunteer leaders, state and county Extension staff members from across the United States, the U.S. Territories and the Canadian Provinces. Any youth 15 to 18 years old by January 1, 2019 may apply. Up to six Kansas youth may be selected as delegates and each delegate will serve a two-year term on the Kansas 4-H Youth Leadership Council. One adult chaperone will also be selected to accompany the delegation. Applications and letters of reference are due in the State 4-H Office no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 1, 2018. Contact your local Extension office for more information. State Dog Conference The Kansas 4-H Dog Conference and Quiz Bowl will be October 20-21, 2018 at Rock Springs 4-H Center. Any 4-H member 7-18 years of age may attend. One dog is allowed per youth participant. Dogs are optional. Parents and volunteer leaders are also invited. To register on-line and for more information go to kansas4-h.org. Registration deadline is October 8, 2018. T-shirts and hoodies may be ordered on-line for an additional cost. 4-H Robotics SpaceTech Experience The Kansas 4-H SpaceTech Program and the Kansas Cosmosphere located in Hutchinson are again teaming up to provide fun, hands-on and science-based programming for Kansas 4-H Youth Development. This fourth program will feature Robotics. The experience will begin Friday, November 16, at 4:00 p.m., and will end on Saturday, November 17, at 4:00 p.m. Registration will close November 4, 2018. For more information, contact your local extension office. Phillips County 4-H Scholarship Phillips County 4-H Scholarship applications are due in the Phillips County Extension Office by October 1, 2018. Any Phillips County 4-H member graduating from high school in 2018 may apply. Applications can be found on our website at www.phillipsrooks.ksu.edu. 4-H Club Officer & Leader Elections As the new 4-H year approaches, so does your Club Officer and Club Leader Elections. A few things to keep in mind when planning your Club Elections: Please use the resource, Club Elections and Committee: http://www.kansas4-h.org/resources/4- h-library/4-h-clubs/strengthening-clubs- 1/index.html. Please make sure that all club members know that Elections are taking place. Also as a reminder, each Club needs to have at least two Club Leaders. These Leaders need to be elected by the Club members and can be set up on rotating terms at the Clubs discretion. Good Luck with the upcoming 4-H Year. Phillips County 4-H Council Officer Applications Applications for next year s 4-H Council Officers are due to the Phillipsburg Extension Office by September 21, 2018. Officer positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Reporter. Applications may be picked up at the Phillipsburg Extension Office or online at www.phillipsrooks.ksu.edu. Phillips County Premium Checks If you have not yet picked up your County Fair Premium check please stop by the Phillips County Extension Office and pick it up as soon as possible. 4-H Council The next Rooks County 4-H Council meeting will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at the Harding Hall 4-H Building. Items to be discussed include: fair, fair food stand, Achievement Celebration, and 48 Hours of 4-H.

The next Phillips County 4-H Council meeting will be held on September 24, 2018 at the Phillips County Annex beginning at 7:00 p.m. 4-H Council Officer Elections will be held. Each club should turn in their three council representatives to the Extension Office by the 3 rd Tuesday of September (September 18 th ). All current 4-H Council members and next year s newly elected 4-H Council members need to attend! 4-H Leaders Meeting There will be a 4-H Leaders Meeting on September 24, 2018 at the Phillips County Annex beginning at 6:30 p.m. All current leaders and new leaders are encouraged to attend. Jr. Leaders Meeting The next Jr. Leaders meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Harding Hall 4-H Building, Stockton. Junior Leaders Happenings Junior Leaders met August 9, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Harding Hall 4-H Building. Summer day camps and activities were discussed. 4-H member recruitment and 48 Hours of 4-H was also discussed. The next meeting was scheduled for October 8, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at the Harding Hall 4- H Building. Livestock Committee Happenings The Rooks County Livestock Committee met August 9, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sutor-Blauer Arena. Superintendents reminders, judges, and numbers of livestock for the Rooks County Free Fair were given. The next meeting was scheduled for September 10, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harding Hall 4-H Building. Livestock Committee Meeting The next Rooks County Livestock Committee meeting will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harding Hall 4-H Building. Items to be discussed include: fair judges, fair comments, fair book changes/additions/deletions, rate of gain contest, large animal round robin, and market steer show.
