2013 Issue 1 Page 2 Our CEO & His Team By now you will have read CEO Glen s email report to members informing of some of the changes taking place and forward planning. This is an excellent report and reflects Glen s commitment to make a difference. And some of the differences are already visible. Glen has entered wholeheartedly into improving the position of the club and is working very hard, together with his team, to position us favourably for the future. I encourage you to engage with Glen, giving him the benefit of your views and remembering always that constructive criticism is always welcome. Click on to www.seaviewgolfclub.com.au and view up to date reports, upcoming events, competitions and great photos of our lovely course. AND Club Professional Denis Rosenwald will regularly showcase moving pictures of how to play each of our 18 holes. Watch the space! Many thanks to CEO Glen and to Steven Rea who once again has volunteered his expertise and time to create our new site. Great job Steven. Frank Parker - Midweek Captain After 12 years of service as our mid-week Captain, Frank has called it a day. And we are very sorry that it has come to an end, but very grateful for the many, many hours Frank volunteered to ensure the popular mid-week comp ran smoothly. Frank regularly sprouted his individual brand of humour when every Wed he announced the highlights and pitfalls of the day s events. His patter was much enjoyed. Frank has been a club stalwart for many years. He travels two or three times each week from his home in Kalamunda to Sea View to engage with all his friends. He is a cheerful gentleman, always well presented, often sporting our club tie and jacket. The recent Wednesday s Veterans Golf Day & Dinner, organised each year by Frank, was his final contribution. He was presented with a memento from the Club Members for all his efforts over a long period. Evidence of this thoroughness was the anointing of his successor Gary Fletcher, who is an excellent choice for Mid-Week Captain. Thanks Frank!
2013 Issue 1 Page 3 Annual Dinner & Presentation Night This was a very successful and happy evening where we ackowledged the best golf performers of the year. Club Patron Colin Barnett attended and spoke affectionately for his relationship with the club, which was greatly appreciated by all. Silver Lips Ib Cameron Mc d the evening with great panache - be hard to wrest the microphone from him now!! Club Champions were Dave Cook for the Men, and Izzy Duke for the Ladies and many of the successful pennant team members were present. CEO Glen Deublé and his team, including Bar Manager Vicky Franklin, and Office Administrator Shelley Hopkinson did a wonderful job in presenting our function area in a most attractive and stylish way, as shown in the photos. Well done Team! All those who attended were very positive in their comments on a happy fun event.
2013 Issue 1 Page 4 Successful Recent Competitions We ve presented soem well patronised and quality competitions recently: Sea View Gold Nugget Again a good field this year with many competitors from other clubs, as this was a Paxton event. The Gold Nugget was claimed by M. Dennis from Royal Perth GC. Our best performer was Chris Mitchell who posted best nett score. The Holden Scramble Described by Club Captain John Robertson as the best we have seen at the Sea View. High praise indeed. Congratulations to Club Pro Dennis Rosenwald and Captain John Robertson for a very well staged event. The Spring Cup Next Competition The Spring Cup will be held on November 9 of this year. This Invitation (Par) Event is open to all full playing rights members. Entry fee is $33.00 per person. Entry forms available on our website www.seaviewgolfclub.com.au and available at the office. Entries close at 5pm, Tuesday November 5.
2013 Issue 1 Page 5 Club Quiz Night Some 80+ members and friends enjoyed a fun evening grappling with Max Clarke s carefully crafted suite of questions (who are 5 Prime Ministers of Australia with surnames starting with H?) and pages of photos requiring names. A great way to spend 3 hours and with a chance of winning prizes too! Big thanks to Max and Maxine Clarke who planned the evening (Max says he spends the 12 months prior to the event to structure the questions!), and MC d the night; and also to helpers John Robertson and Chris Bennett. The Deck We have all been frustrated at the delay in obtaining approval for building our deck. But there are reasons which, hopefully, we will be able to give to members soon. So, in answer to the many questions received regularly by the Board members, we are trying to speed the process as quickly as we can and all we can do for now is to plead for patience from all. The 9 Holer s Cup - Nedlands GC This friendly competition is with us again on Sunday 24 November at Nedlands GC. The inaugural event was held last year at Mosman Park GC and we came third! 2013 must be our year. The competition recognises the similarities between our three clubs and reflects the intent to build better relationships for all and hopefully in things other than only the annual comp. There is a special trophy and the event is hosted once every three years. Next year is Sea View s turn. It is a mixed 4 ball competition and is followed by drinks and presentations. It is a fun event and I encourage all to consider nominating. Closer to the time we will call for participants, but for now, note the date 27 November in your diaries.
2013 Issue 1 Page 6 Membership Drive Leading up to Xmas we will have a membership drive similar to last year s successful drive. Flyer s and advertisements will appear shortly. Please assist this effort by promoting our club to any of your contacts at work, friendship groups, neighbours and in fact everyone!! Members are our principal source of revenue and we need to have an annual net positive figure to progress our plans. Your help is very important. Please help.
2013 Issue 1 Page 7 Meals at the Sea View Commencing November/December our kitchen will be providing 2-3 meals per day on Friday/Saturday and Sunday. CEO Glen has negotiated to bring a caterer to the club, who is familiar with our operations and is eager to expand his business. Soon we can eat, drink and be merry while indulging in our outstanding location and its views. Again, your help is sought to spread the message and bring friends and rellies to dine at the club. Death of a Friend A fellow Club Member and Friend in Donald Frank Cousens passed away on October 4th this year. He will be missed and our deepest condolences are with his family and friends. In closing, I hope everyone is enjoying their Spring golf and looking forward to a lovely summer at Sea View Best wishes Trevor Gallagher President
