Dear Prospective LIT/B-LIT: Thank you for your interest in participating in our Lifeguard-In-Training (LIT) Program or our Beginner Lifeguard-In- Training (B-LIT) Program during our 2016 summer season. The deadline for all required documents is May 1, 2016. The following documents are to be submitted by this date: 1. Application completed in full 2. Physical needed to take swim test and to participate in program 3. Birth Certificate (for new applicants) Each applicant must pass our swim test, taken at Aquatic Center (schedule is attached). The requirements are as follows: LIT - B-LIT - 150 yards in 2:25 or less 150 yards in 2:45 or less. Upon completion of all of the swim tests, you will be notified if you have been accepted into the LIT Program or B-LIT Program. The fees for the LIT/B-LIT Program this summer are as follows: LIT Program - $ 225.00 for a single session $ 375.00 for both sessions B-LIT Program - $ 125.00 for a single session $ 200.00 for both sessions (This fee is due only upon your acceptance into the LIT/B-LIT Program.) Summer sessions are as follows: The first session for LIT is Monday, June 20 through Friday, July 15. The first session for B-LIT is Wednesday, June 22 through Friday, July 15. The second session for both is Monday, July 18 through Friday, August 12. Application Deadlines Application and required documents must be received by to May 1, 2016, and is required prior to taking swim test. Submittal of required documentation does not guarantee employment. Swim Test Calendar Veteran and new lifeguards swim test - 500 meters (which is 22 lengths of the Aquatic Center pool) in 10:00 minutes or less. Veteran and New LIT/B-LIT swim test - 150 yards in 2:25 or less for LIT 150 yards in 2:45 or less for B-LIT. Goggles and swim caps are permitted, no diving starts. All lifeguards are required to complete the Wilson Bud Peck 1000-meter ocean swim and half-mile paddleboard competitions. The following dates will be the only times the test will be held. You may attempt to pass the test on any two of these dates. You may only take the swim test a total of two (2) times. If you do not pass the swim test you will not be hired as a Long Beach Township ocean lifeguard. From April 11 th June 3 rd, every Tuesday and Thursday and from 7:00 am 9:00 am, Monday and Wednesday from 5:45 pm 7:45 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, three lanes of the pool have been reserved for anyone, veterans, rookies and LITs/B-LITs; trying out for LBTBP. Enter at the east poolside door, sign in and respect all pool rules. There are no scheduled swim tests for lifeguard applicants after May 28 th at! If we have not received your application, you will not be on the list at the Aquatic Center for pre-test and pre-season pool training. Orientation Meeting for Lifeguards Job description and duties will be discussed as will other related subjects work hours, salaries, LBTBP beach policies, patrol officers, etc. Patrol assignments will take place at this time. You must wear shoes & a shirt or you will be sent home. Uniforms and equipment will be distributed later the same day; the schedule will be announced at the orientation meeting. Please be on time.
