We are looking for 4-H youth age 10 and up who have an interest in cooking and wish to challenge their creativity in the kitchen. This event is designed to encourage youth to learn new skills in cooking to lead a healthier lifestyle through a fun and education team challenge. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the Buffalo Farm to School program and other food and nutrition related programs in Erie County. Winning recipe will be featured on the Buffalo Public School menu as a Farm to School item in fall 2018. When: Friday, May 11 from 5-7:30pm Where: South Side Elementary (430 Southside Pkwy, Buffalo) There is a $5 entry fee per person to be paid on the day of the event Teams are to consist of 2-4 youth There will be a maximum of 10 teams Registration Opens March 21 and Closes May 4 Tentative Event Schedule: 5-5:30pm: Registration 5:30-6pm: Cooking Lesson and Event Rules 6-7pm: Competition 7-7:30: Judging and awards
4-H is at the Botanical Gardens are you in need of some community service hours? We have shifts available from 10-4 each day, March 10 to April 8, 2018, call Tammi at 652-5400 ext. 132 if you would like to volunteer to talk about 4-H and interact with the public. Want to mannequin model a garment you have made? Want to do it in the warm tropical gardens? Let Tammi know and we will set up a time. We are looking for youth and adults to help tell the 4-H story to visitors. We have the opportunity to reach many people and educate about our program. If you have some bunnies, chickens, sheep, goats, ducks, etc. that you would be willing to put on display at the Botanical Gardens please contact Tammi as soon as possible. Or if you want to take an animal down for your shift you can do that too. This year during the Erie County Fair Livestock Market Auctions we will be selling pies made by 4-H members to benefit the 4-H program. Do you want to learn how to make a pie? Perhaps brush up on pie making skills? Want to exhibit a fresh pie at the fair? Join us as we learn together! This program will be a 2 step opportunity: Step 1 Attend an educational workshop on May 10 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Marilla Methodist Church. You will learn about the history of pie making, food safety, fruit preparation, crust preparation and the how to by making your own personal mini pie. This workshop will be presented by the Basiles. Step 2 Participate in the actual pie making. You will make 2 pies, one for the auction and one for the 4-H member to take home (to bake and eat or freeze to bake later to exhibit at the fair at Daily's in East Aurora and in July.
