2014 Baseball Monday, July 7 th, 2014 GAME 1: Northeast - 1 Metro - 0 Junior from Triton Regional High School, Justin Cashman (Rowley) pitched a complete game against last year s silver medalist s Metro team. He was successful on the mound fanning seven, walking only two, and giving up two hits. Jack Wilhoite (Winchester), junior at Belmont Hill School, was effective against Cashman going 1-for-2 with a double. GAME 2: Central - 4 West - 0 Central started the tournament on a high note by beating the West team, reigning gold medalist. Brady Ravenelle (Dudley), junior from Shepherd Hill Regional, went 3-for-4 during the defeat. Ravenelle had a single and double both off of starting West pitcher Ian Brink (Williamstown) who pitched only five innings, allowed two hits, and struck out two batters. GAME 3: Coastal 3 Southeast 2 Coastal s starting pitcher, Brendan Welch (Easton) stood strong on the mound for 5 innings protecting the 3-0 lead where he struck out two and only walked two with no earned runs. In the top of the 7 th, Southeast was unable to win the game, but managed to score two before grounding out and losing 3-2. Tuesday, July 8 th, 2014 GAME 1: Southeast 1 Metro - 0 Today's 9:00 am game featured a battle of beaten Metro vs. Southeast. Metro's Jake Ryan (Arlington) got into an early jam with bases loaded and no outs, however Southeast was only able to get one across the plate for a 1-0 lead that would hold up the rest of the way. The shining star for Metro was Christian Rosati (Medford) who threw two scoreless innings of relief with 5 strikeouts, 2 walks and 1 hit. James Newman (Walpole) gets the 1-0 win for Southeast. GAME 2: Central 3 Northeast 2 Game 2 featured the visiting Northeast squad taking on the home Central team. Central jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead early in the 3 rd inning. But, Northeast rallied in the 6 th inning with 2 runs of their own but was unable to take the lead thanks to reliever Patrick Gallagher (Worcester) who tossed a scoreless 7 th inning with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk. GAME 3: Coastal 7 West 2 Coastal was able to add to its winning streak with a 7-2 win over West this afternoon. Coach Mark Cooke was able to lead the squad to a strong start by jumping on the board in the 2 nd inning. West then came back with a 2-run rally after an error filled 5 th inning for Coastal. Coastal did not let up and responded with 5 runs. Andrew Horowitz for Coastal (Mansfield) closed the game with shutout 7 th inning. Wednesday, July 9 th, 2014 GAME 1: Southeast 12 Central 0 Southeast started and finished strong as junior Ryan Earle (Hanover) led the offensive attack against Central. Earle went 3-for-3 with 2 singles and a double driving in 4 runs and crossing the plate twice. Star junior pitcher Brendan Smith (Hingham) also had an outstanding day tossing 4 scoreless innings and letting up the only hit Central was able to get in during the game. Southeast and Central are now posted with the same record of 2-1. GAME 2: West 7 Northeast 0 West bounces back from two tough losses today as they ease past Northeast 7-0. Junior Alex Caldwell (Springfield) hit.500 as he had a single, double, 2 RBI s, and crossed the plate twice. Northeast and West are now 1-2 in the tournament. GAME 3: Metro 12 Coastal 3 Coastal lost its first game to Metro 12-3 as junior Erick Ramirez (South Boston) from Cambridge Rindge & Latin School continued a rally coming fresh off the bench. Ramirez hit 2-for-2 with 2 singles, 2 RBI s, and a stolen base. Closer Jack Wilhoite (Winchester) also scored 2 runs as Metro s record improved to 1-2 and Coastal dropped to 2-1. Thursday, July 10 th, 2014 GAME 1: Northeast 3 Coastal 2 Coastal got off to a fast start with back to back singles by Chandler Debrosse (New Bedford) and Wiley Knight (Marion) that would propel them to an early 2-0 lead. Northeast came back with a run of their own in the 2 nd inning after sloppy pitching from Coastal. Northeast s Daniel Cacciola (Saugus) slammed a triple to drive in John Prentice (Saugus) to tie the game up. Northeast would score the go ahead run in the 6 th by a single from junior Chance Carpenter (Newburyport). Northeast head Coach Ryan McCarthy was able to squeak out a 3-2 win on his birthday! GAME 2: West 5 Southeast 4 West jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning with junior Joseph Mercadente (Agawam), sophomore Matt Koperniak (Adams), and junior Evan Delaney (Hadley) each singling. Junior Luke Bakker (Deerfield) for West doubled and later scored putting West ahead 5-0. Southeast chipped away with runs in the 4 th, 5 th, 6 th, and 7 th innings but junior Selah Dalomba (Amherst) was able to close the door. GAME 3: Metro - 5 Central 2 Metro and Central started off with a pitching duel which included a combined 7 strikeouts. Metro s bus got rolling in the 5 th inning with Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke) walking and later scoring. Another run later crossed the plate to finish the inning. Three more runs scored in the bottom of the 6 th to help Metro pull away with a 5-2 win. Friday, July 11 th, 2014 GAME 1: Coastal 2 Central 1 Starting Coastal pitcher Anthony Veditto (Kingston) pitched 6 innings and was able to strike out 2 holding Central to 1 run. Coastal squeezed 2 runs in as their defense was able to stay solid through the entire game keeping them in the running for a medal. GAME 2: Metro 7 West 5 Junior Richard Manning (Waltham) from Metro assisted his team and pushing past West 7-5 in the last day of the tournament. Manning hit 2-for-2 with 2 singles, 1 RBI, and crossed the plate once. Sophomore Conor Moriarty (West Springfield) was solid at the plate for West going 3-for-4 with 2 singles, 1 double, and 2 RBIs. GAME 3: Southeast 5 Northeast 5 (8 innings) Due to time limit, Southeast and Northeast came out with a 5-5 tie for the last baseball game of the tournament. Northeast was up heading into the 7 th inning until Southeast s offensive took off and rallied to tie the game at 5. However, Northeast s defense and relief pitching of sophomore Scott Webster (Newburyport) was able to stop Southeast in the bottom of the 8 th where there was bases loaded and no outs.
