3rd Annual Nashville 2009 August 22, Riverfront Park Nashville, TN www.nashvilledragonboat.com

The essence of today is about working together as a team. The team that will paddle their way to Grand Champion will be the one that works most closely together on the race course. Similarly, enhancing the water quality of the Cumberland River and putting on this event would not be possible without a large team of dedicated individuals and groups. The Cumberland River Compact s team is composed of citizens, businesses, a small nonprofit staff, and volunteers. Our mission is to enhance the water quality of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through education and by promoting cooperation. To accomplish this, we organize watershed groups, conduct stream clean-ups and outreach, and educate local officials, developers, builders, and citizens on water related issues and sustainable practices. The Dragon Boat and River Festival is one way for us to bring attention to the Cumberland River, a beautiful natural resource for Nashville and middle Tennessee. It provides our drinking water and endless sources of recreational activities. Today s event is the result of months of planning and preparation by the staff and volunteers of the Compact and Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association. Thank you for all of your hard work. We especially want to thank our friends at Ingram Barge, Gaylord Entertainment, and Bridgestone for their continued partnership with the Compact and this festival. Thank you! Also thank you to Metro Parks, Lightning 100, Team Green, the Nashville Scene, Coke, and all of our other sponsors. And thank you to the teams participating today. Good luck and have fun as you compete in the races! Doug Hausken Executive Director, Cumberland River Compact Over the last four decades, the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association, in pursuit of our mission of protecting our free flowing rivers and streams has been active in many ways - developing and supporting legislation, hosting paddling schools and safety clinics, the Adopt A River program, river trips, clean-ups, water sampling, land purchases, conservation easements - the list goes on and on. Yet with all that in place there is still more to do and there are more people to reach. The Nashville Dragon Boat Festival is a wonderful showcase for the beauty and value of Tennessee waterways. TSRA hopes that you'll enjoy your time on the water today and become involved in our common goal of clean flowing rivers and streams - now and for generations to come. Jim Clapper, TSRA Board of Directors Chairman

Event Schedule (all times are approximate) 8:30 am Opening ceremony - Welcome by Mayor Karl Dean. Four teams will race approximately every 12 minutes. 11:00 While the race results are tallied and semifinals are established, wander around and enjoy all that the festival has to offer including the great vendors and nonprofits along 1st Avenue! Noon Semi final races begin. 2:00 Afternoon Break. 2:30 races begin! Awards Ceremony and After Party Wildhorse Saloon Immediately following the last race, hurry up to the Wildhorse Saloon for the presentation of the Grand Champion, Division, and Spirit Award winners from the stage. Join the Cumberland River Compact, Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association, and the Wildhorse Saloon as we celebrate you, the paddlers, and enjoy some food and drink specials (cash bar), including Blackened Dragon Breath Catfish! Get out of the sun and into some cool air conditioning to celebrate our day on the water. Just enter through the back door of the Wildhorse by going across 1st Avenue. Thank you!!! The 2nd Annual Dragon Boat Race and River Festival would not have happened without help from and the dedication of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and participating teams. We have been working since the end of last year s event putting in hundreds of hours to make the event bigger and better. Ingram Barge, Gaylord Entertainment, Bridgestone, Coke and the many other sponsors and donors have provided cash, materials, equipment, services, and other items. Mayor Karl Dean, Metro Parks Director - Roy Wilson, Metro Water Services, Metro Beautification, and Metro Public Works sponsored and cooperated with organizers to provide many services. The Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville provided the beautiful traditional dances and drumming for the opening ceremony and intermissions. Thank you also to the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly today keeping the event running smoothly. And special thanks to all the participating teams and sponsoring companies. Once again, YOU have made this event a huge success.

Nashville Race Format and Awards How the races are formatted... Great White North, Inc. is providing the race logistics and formatting. The time of your first race will determine which division your team will be placed in for the remainder of the event. During the first race, you are racing against the time of all the teams in the event. The top eight times from the first set of races are placed in the A Division. The slowest eight times are placed in the E Division. In the second race you are only competing against the teams in your division. The top four teams in your division will be racing in the division final and the slowest four teams in the division consolation final. Remember, you can never change divisions. This means that you better paddle well in the first race or you will lose out of being in the grand championship final race. Awards Awards will be presented at the closing ceremony. The top three teams in the championship final will receive awards. Also, the top team from each division final wins a prize and the winner of the division consolation final wins a prize. 2009 Grand Champion 2009 Second Place 2009 Third Place A Division Consolation Winner B Division Championship Winner B Division Consolation Winner C Division Championship Winner C Division Consolation Winner D Division Championship Winner D Division Consolation Winner E Division Championship Winner E Division Consolation Winner Spirit Award to encourage fun, cheering, crazy costumes, and boisterous banter both on the boat and off, every year we select the team that most dramatically epitomizes the Dragon Boat Races. At the awards ceremony they will be presented with the Spirit Award. The team that convinces the judges that they have the best spirit will win a trophy and bragging rights. The Spirit Award winners of 2007 AND 2008 were the Pirates of the Cumberland (Ingram Barge). The following pages reflect the tentative schedule. Times may be subject to change without notice.

The semi final races will begin approximately 45 minutes following the last race in the first set of races. There will be a 20 minute break between the semi final races and the finals. Please check the race board for results and division placement. Get to know the teams We are grateful to have so many teams competing in this 3rd Annual river celebration to benefit two organizations working on behalf of our river, Cumberland River Compact and Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association. Let the races begin! Aquaholics - Since 2000, the Aquaholics have been ripping through Ontario's waters with frenzied fury and unabashed spirit. With their unequivocal good looks and contagious cheers, this Toronto team embodies all the virtues of Dragon Boating - skill, teamwork, and love for the beer tent. Feel free to browse through our website, and take a closer look at the team that many have called "the hippest crew on the waves" (or "the biggest bunch of @$$&%^#$", depending on who you talk to) Bells-Benders - This tough farmer crew has been seasoned by adversity, strengthened by wading through the deep stuff, has developed endurance by sitting through endlessly long meetings, and is able to leap tall buildings at a single bound as long as they are downtown, where tall buildings belong. Bridgestone s Rowing Stones (1 & 2): Our company is committed to being a good corporate citizen nationally, regionally and globally. Our efforts are visible across a broad range of initiatives, including support for public radio, television, libraries and museums. We are passionate about programs that emphasize education, the welfare of children as well as the protection, preservation and conservation of our environment. Our corporate philosophy is to build not just better products, but better communities. Our goal is to be One Team, One Planet. Brown and Caldwell s Strokes of Genius - Brown and Caldwell has been using STROKES OF GENIUS to work with municipal and private sector clients to find sustainable solutions to complex environmental challenges. Brown and Caldwell defines sustainability as a long-term strategy for preserving the health of our environment, enhancing operational performance, and protecting the community. Our engineers and scientists have been delivering unique solutions for a variety of service areas including water resources, utility management, wastewater treatment, water and wastewater infrastructure, solid waste, and air quality. C-Biscuit - Drawing inspiration from the legendary champion racehorse, Team C- Biscuit redefines the concepts of speed and power for a new generation of racing enthusiasts. Comprised of Country Music Television's fastest, strongest, and most physically attractive athletes, the team's mission statement is clear: Obliterate the competition, and look fabulous doing it. To those foolish souls who would dare accept the challenge, a word of advice Beware the C-Word. The Cumberland Crayfish will roar down the beautiful Cumberland for the third year! Made up of Cumberland River Compact supporters, volunteers and people who work for this great river's water quality every day, we'll enjoy this race from start to finish just because it's on the Cumberland!

Dragon Ass (Nashville Scene) - A team made of employees from the Nashville Scene, an alternative weekly, with commentary, news and reviews of local arts and entertainment, and a wide variety of features. Entertainment Crew (Ingram Entertainment Inc./DBI Beverage Inc.) - Movies, video games, beer, team building and community service IT S ALL IN A DAYS WORK!! HVUD Harpeth Valley Utilities District serves the water and wastewater needs of customers in portions of Davidson, Williamson and Cheatham counties. The District provides water service to more than 15,000 customers and wastewater service to more than 12,000 customers. Lightning 100 - Lightning 100 may be Nashville's Independent Radio Station, but our fierce Dragon Boat paddlers will show Music City what it means to be united in one rhythm, as we carve our trail through the Cumberland River to the finish line. Lithographics Paddlin Piranhas - We re back! Third year and definitely moving to the top of the food chain! 4th place not good enough. We re eating up the competition this year and chewing up your paddles! Our soy based inks, aqueous (water based) coatings and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certification serve us well in our efforts to protect and improve our environment as we provide high quality printed material for our customers 24/6. Nashville Hiking Meetup Silver & Purple - Having mastered traversing the domain known in the scientific community as terra firma, the Nashville Hiking Meetup group is now poised to conquer the remaining 70% of the earth s surface. We will start with a 300+ foot stretch of the Cumberland River by vanquishing all who dare oppose us. Nashville 'Outlaws' Rugby Team (2008 Grand Champions) - The Nashville 'Outlaws' Rugby Team, as defending Dragon Boat Race Champions 2008, are one year older and one year bolder; one year meaner, keener and we are leaner (We're all on Adkins)! Poetry may not be our strength, but nevertheless, we are back to claim what is rightly ours! We aim to demonstrate, once again the rugby ethos of teamwork. The Outlaws shall once more revel in the cacophony of sound from our supporters from the riverbank, the explosion of the starter gun, the bang of the drum and the rhythmic splash of our synchronized paddles hitting the Cumberland River, as we cross the line, first! As the old adage goes, "The steeper the mountain the harder the climb, the better the view from the finishing line." Pirates of the Cumberland (Ingram Barge) - This Ingram-sponsored group is made up of individuals connected to Ingram Barge Company, Trinity, Nabrico and Marine Solutions. The common thread is the Port of Nashville Propeller Club, an organization which promotes the local maritime industry and educates legislators and the public as to the importance of waterborne commerce. Pollution Prevention Pirates - Arr! These seaworthy folk are the hands of Metro Water Services Stormwater Division. Their duties include engineering, water quality, capital improvement, and maintenance of the storm sewers to prevent flooding. These lads &

lasses protect land and sea and don't mind collecting booty from those who violate. Red Wave - Just like Coke, the "Red Wave" is the Real Thing and will add Life to the Dragon Boat races. You will get the Coke side of life from this group; unfortunately lack of experience may result in a swim in the river due to a capsized boat. Regardless, you'll see our True Colors. Row like an Icon - A modest collection of inexperienced boaters, sub-par swimmers, and non-athletes collectively suffering from mild to severe cases of sunburn, aquaphobia, poor sportsmanship and alcoholism. This team truly re-defines what it means to row like an Icon. Shen-Long/Mighty Dragon Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville & the Nashville Rowing Club - Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville (CAAN) promotes the awareness, understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Chinese visual and performing arts. Our lion dance team will greet you at the Opening for the Dragon Boat Race event at 8:30 am! Nashville Rowing Club (NRC) is both a recreational and competitive rowing club dedicated to providing rowing opportunities for those in the greater Nashville area. We are joining forces becoming Shen-Long, the Mighty Dragon! We will huff, puff and roar!! Watch out! Schneider Electric - Schneider Electric focuses on making energy safe, reliable, and efficient. The company's 114,000 employees located in over 100 countries achieved sales of more than $20 billion in 2008, through an active commitment to help individuals and organizations Make the most of their energy." Slosh'd Bucklers - We have bravely sailed the oceans wide, our oars and grog by our side... For a little break in our global rumblin', we put our ship down for a day on the Cumberland... surrounded by a scurrrvy filled landlubbin' crowd, we hike our flag high, our heads tall and proud true to ourselves, to our team we'll be true, doing best what Slosh'd Bucklers do... bendin' and gruntin' and pullin' it harrrd, cuttin' a wake through the entirrre shipyarrrd... when the crowds behold us they'll gasp-- "Oh my gosh!", "Look at those pirates -- they must be slosh'd!" And they'll be right... We are Slosh'd...Bucklers! Team Aladdin A Paddlin - Team Aladdin A Paddlin of Aladdin Temp-Rite healthcare foodservices is pulling the genie out of the lamp again this year for the third attempt at winning the coveted Nashville Dragon Boat Race. We are counting on our spells and sorcery to overcome the youth and athleticism of other teams in this year s contest! Team Climate Project - Team Climate Project represents nearly 3000 dedicated volunteers from around the world, all personally trained by Al Gore to educate the public about climate change. This is our first foray into the world of competitive racing. We are pleased as punch to paddle with zero carbon people power for such a good cause! Team Dragon Bottom represents the Baptist Hospital office of Tennessee Oncology. This group of healthcare professionals is proud to participate in the Nashville Dragon Boat Festival for the third year. The previous years events have been tremendous fun, succeeding in bringing people "Down to the River," raising awareness of the tremendous natural resource

that flows through the heart of Music City. Last year, our team finished comfortably in the middle of the pack, and we hope to improve upon that this year! Team Gaylord (Wildhorse Saloon) - The Wildhorse Saloon is simultaneously a restaurant, bar, concert site, dance venue and television studio. Annually, more than 1.5 million music fans stampede to the Wildhorse to have a great meal, catch the hottest concerts and learn the newest dance steps. For more information, visit www.wildhorsesaloon.com. Team Green is going to rock the river green! Powered by adventurous Nashville herculean men and women, the Team Green team will make other teams green with envy. Team Green is Lightning 100's outdoor adventure club, helping to preserve our outdoor playground. THDA House of Love Boat - Ever driven past a construction site and remarked, that house wasn t there yesterday! That s how it will be with the Tennessee Housing Development Agency House of Love Boat. The THDA Boat will supersonically speed past all competitors. Think of time lapsed photography. Think of a team of roofers racing a thundercloud. Think. Blink. Winners! Team Massey - TEAM MASSEY is MBA and MACC students, alumni, faculty and affiliates from the internationally-accredited and award-winning Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business at Belmont University. Team members have been challenged and inspired not only for successful careers in business management and leadership, but to strategically advance in boat racing competition that requires focus, tenacity, and stamina. TEAM MASSEY intends to take care of business at the 2009 Dragon Boat Race! Team RoHo - RoHos represent a team of highly specialized, if not overcompensated amateur rowers from the Nashville vicinity. We love to row and we're hos for a good time and benefitting the Cumberland River. Rub us behind our oars and we're yours! Three Shih Tzus to the Wind - Hailing from the Far East (East Nashville, that is), this drinking team with a dragon boat problem will be paddling for supremacy of Nashville s waterways. If our war cry doesn t strike fear in your hearts (YIP, YIP!!!), I don t know what will! Enjoy our wake, suckas! TSRA (1 & 2) The Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association (TSRA) is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and restoration of the scenic, freeflowing rivers of our state. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, the organization has approximately 1,000 members across the state and the south. Wal Mart #710 PSP Pirates - We are the PSP Pirates from Wal Mart #710 in Hermitage. We have not only adopted a highway, we have also raised money for the cancer children at Vanderbilt Hospital by shaving our heads. We are not only helping the environment by picking up trash, but also helping people in need. We may have a few bald people on our team, but watch out for us-we are the PSP PIRATES.

Proceeds from the Festival will benefit the following Nashville-based nonprofit community service organizations. Since 1997, the Cumberland River Compact has worked to enhance the water quality of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through education and by promoting cooperation among citizens, businesses, and agencies in Kentucky and Tennessee. www.cumberlandrivercompact.org 615-837-1151 The Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association (TSRA) is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and restoration of the scenic, freeflowing rivers of our state.
