Bishop Union High School Football General principles, policies, and philosophies If you have high expectations for yourself and others, you should be a member of this team. We have very high expectations for you. The tradition that you are being asked to uphold at Bishop Union High School is the same tradition that your predecessors have worked so hard to establish. How you choose to conduct yourself both publicly and privately will reflect on your family, your teammates, your coaches, your school, and the entire community. As a student-athlete, you must conduct yourself in accordance with team and school regulations, at all times. You have signed the BUHS Code of Conduct. 1. You are responsible for understanding and complying with all BUHS rules and regulations. Ignorance is not an excuse. 2. You are expected to represent the BUHS football program in a positive manner on campus and in the community. We are working extremely hard to maintain a first class program that the students, faculty, and community are proud of. Any deviation from this will not be tolerated. 3. You are expected to graduate and pass your classes with the best grades possible. It is your responsibility to utilize tutoring and other available resources as needed to maintain your grades and to be proactive with your grades. Coaching staff will be monitoring your grades and encouraging you to maintain your GPA. Encouragement will come in many forms! 4. You must update your cell phone number and email for you and your parents with the head coach as soon as possible to avoid any interruption in communication.

Program based on two principles: Honesty and Accountability Honesty- For any organization to function there has to be an understanding that whatever is said is the truth. There cannot and will not be any keeping of information that can have an effect on the team and there will absolutely be no untruths said within this team. Mistakes will be made; however, immediate notification to the head coach or a leader is expected. Accountability- Each member of this organization (players, coaches, and support staff) has a very clear and succinct job description. It is the individual s responsibility to complete this job description to the best of their ability. Our success will be a direct result of the accountability demonstrated by the individuals in this program. 4 C s of Accountability 1. Character-shares the core values of the team 2. Consistent- every play, every day 3. Committed- without question 4. Cohesive- Team First mentality Losers assemble in little groups and complain about the coaches and players in other little groups, but winners assemble as a team. - BILL PARCELLS

BUHS Football: 5 Fundamental Philosophies JUDGEMENT You are a member of a TEAM. Your decisions affect others. INTEGRITY Do the right thing when nobody's watching. DEPENDABILITY We need Broncos who are all in! Be a Go-To person COURAGE Moral Courage, have the guts to make the unpopular decision. LOYALITY There are plenty of negative forces out there. Stay positive and defend your teammates, coaches, administrators, and school. On every team, there is a core group that sets the tone for everyone else. If the tone is positive, you have half the battle won. If it is negative, you are beaten before you ever walk on the field. Chuck Noll

Discipline Policy LATE TO PRACTICE OR OTHER FOOTBALL RELATED FUNCTION 1 st offense: 5 Gassers after practice (self and position coach) 2 nd offense: 5 Gassers after practice (whole position group joins in) 3 rd offense: 5 Gassers after practice (whole team joins in) 4 th offense: Removal from the team OTHER DISCIPLINARY SITUATIONS 1 st offense: 10 Gassers after practice (self and position coach) 2 nd offense: 10 Gassers after practice (whole position group joins in) 3 rd offense: 10 Gassers after practice (whole team joins in) 4 th offense: Removal from the team Examples may include improper workout attire, behavior issues on or off campus, and inappropriate or disrespectful attitude. There are two pains - the pain of discipline and the pain of regret. One is temporary. The other lasts forever. You alone decide which to endure. Bill Curry

Attendance Policy Our goal is to have total commitment to the team by every player involved. Absences will be characterized as either Excused or Unexcused. Each excused absence will require a make-up workout (5 gassers for each practice session and push-ups and situps for each weight room session). We will treat our practices just like we treat the classroom. Any work missed will be made-up when the student returns. The value in our attendance policy sets a standard that being at practices is very important. It also allows us to train our student-athletes for consistency in future events, i.e. college, marriage, parenthood, and career. There will be days in which it will be tempting to miss practice. There will also be days, later in life, when it will be tempting to miss class or work. We want to develop responsibility, consistency, and toughness with our attendance as a member of the Bishop Union High School football team. Never forget that being a member of the Bronco football team is a privilege, not a right. Those that do not follow this attendance policy will be evaluated and a decision to remain on the team will be made. Having Championship Expectations requires that all participants develop and maintain the highest possible skill level and physical development in order to preserve the safety and well-being of each participant during athletic competition. With this in mind, certain criteria or prerequisites can and must be established. Spring Current members of the Bronco Football team (who are not in a BUHS spring sport) are required to attend 85% (30 of 35) of weight room session leading up to spring football. Summer Attendance at summer weight room and practice sessions is required. We understand the importance of summer vacations. Please communicate with your head coach in advance if you are unable to attend a summer weight room or practice session. Fall All in-season practice sessions are mandatory. Student athletes who miss practice (excused) will be expected to make up the work they miss. (absence must be validated by Head Coach) Student athletes who miss practice (unexcused) will miss one game for each unexcused absence.
