JV Game Summaries 2016-2017 Season Girls Basketball February 23, 2017 Aitkin 61 Mora 32 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls Basketball Team finished their 2016-1017 season on road Thursday night by extending their current winning streak to 14, defeating Mora 61-32 on the Mustangs home court. The Lady Gobblers recorded their second consecutive 25 win season by playing strong team defense and great tem offense scoring 22 field goals on 20 assists! Jillian MacDonald led the defense with 5 deflected passes and Myah Newton was the team leader in steals with 4. Sarah Curtiss blocked 2 shots and McKenna MacDonald blocked 1 shot. Amanda Forster was the top rebounder with 8, while Addie Sanford grabbed 7 boards and Newton snared 6. On offense, Curtiss lead the team with 7 big assists and Newton led the scoring with 15 points. Aitkin dominated the paint again with Forster netting 14, Sanford -9, Brooklyn Brezinsky -8,Sam Hanson scored 7, Brynn Wilson -5 and M. MacDonald -3. The Girls JV Team finished the season with an outstanding 25-1 record and grabbed their second straight 16-0 Great River Conference Title. A big thank you is shouted out to all the parents and fans for their phenomenal support throughout the season and also to all the girls who worked very hard every practice and game to make this truly a great day to be an Aitkin Gobbler!!! February 21, 2017 Aitkin 70 Onamia 19 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team came out ready to play Tuesday night as they took a 50-11 halftime lead and cruised to a to 70-19 victory over Onamia at home. The Gobbler JV finished their Great River Conference schedule at 16-0 for the second consecutive season. Great defense and 50% shooting from the field was the recipe for success. Myah Newton led the defense with 7 deflected passes. Sarah Curtiss was the team leader in steals with 5 and Newton chipped in 4 steals, as well. Curtiss also blocked a shot.

Sam Hanson played tough inside and led the team with 8 rebounds. Amanda Forster also grabbed 6 boards. On the offensive end, Curtiss recorded 6 assists to lead Aitkin, while Newton and Jillian MacDonald each dished out 4 dimes. Newton led the scoring with 18, Ramsey Moe netted 13, Forster -9, J. MacDonald, Addie Sanford and Kendra Grulke each scored 6, Amy Gaulke -4, Brooklyn Brezinsky and Curtiss scored 3 a piece and Christine Daehlen scored 2. The Aitkin Girls JV travels to Mora Thursday night to play non-conference foe Mora Mustangs to try to notch their second consecutive 25 win season. Aitkin's season record is 24-1 (16-0 in the GRC). February 18, 2017 Aitkin 49 Moose Lake-Willow River 24 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls Basketball Team won their 12th straight ballgame at home Saturday afternoon 49-24 over Moose Lake - Willow River. Ramsey Moe led the defense with 4 pass deflections and Myah Newton had a game high 7 steals. Sam Hanson and Moe each blocked a shot. Amanda Forster and Amy Gaulke led the rebounders with 7 boards a piece and Newton added 6 rebounds. Newton was active on offense, as well, leading the Lady Gobblers with 3 assists. Moe led the scoring with 15, Newton netted 8, Forster -7, Brooklyn Brezinsky -6, Gaulke -4, Jillian MacDonald -3, Ellie McMillan, Sarah Curtiss and Christine Daehlen each scored 2. Aitkin will play Onamia at home next Tuesday night in their final Great River Conference game of the season. The Girls JV season record is 23-1 (15-0 in the GRC) February 17, 2017 Aitkin 54 Rush City 9 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team put together their second 11 game win streak of the season Friday night by defeating Rush City 54-9 at home. The Lady Gobblers played suffocating defense all night, holding Rush City to 8 first half points and only 1 point in the second half! Aitkin was solid on offense giving up only 15 turnovers and shooting 42% from the field.

On the defensive end, Myah Newton led Aitkin with 6 deflected passes and Amanda Forster tipped 4 passes. Ramsey Moe grabbed 6 steals, while Newton and Sarah Curtiss each recorded 4 steals. Christine Daehlen led the rebounders with 7 rebounds and Addie Sanford grabbed 6 boards. Brooklyn Brezinsky led the offense with 7 assists and Curtiss chipped in 6 dimes. Forster led the scoring with 13, Sanford added 10, Newton -9, Brezinsky - 6. M. MacDonald and Curtiss each netted 5, Moe - 4 and Sam Hanson scored a bucket. The Aitkin Girls JV are 22-1 overall and 15-0 in the Great River Conference. they play a make up game with Moose Lake - Willow River on Saturday at 2 PM at home. February 14, 2017 Aitkin 57 Onamia 18 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team went on the road Tuesday night and grabbed their tenth straight win 57-18 over Onamia. Christine Daehlen was very active on the defensive end, leading the team with 5 deflected passes. Amanda Forster was the team leader with 8 big steals and Jillian MacDonald added 5 thefts. Sam Hanson blocked 3 shots and McKenna MacDonald also blocked a shot. Addie Sanford and Amy Gaulke led the rebounders with 7 a piece and Myah Newton chipped in 6 boards, as well. J. MacDonald and Sarah Curtiss led the offense with 5 assists each. Forster led the scoring with 17, M. MacDonald and Newton each netted 7, Brooklyn Brezinsky, Hanson and J. MacDonald each recorded 6 points, foreign exchange student Christine Daehlen tossed in her first 3 points as an Aitkin Gobbler, Sanford and Curtiss scored 2 points each and Gaulke scored 1 in her first JV contest. The Girls JV season record is 21-1 (14-0 in the GRC) and they play Rush City at home Friday at 6 PM and Moose Lake-Willow River Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. February 10, 2017 Aitkin 59 Ogilvie 15 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team ran their win streak to nine games by defeating Ogilvie at home on Friday night 59-15. Aitkin's balanced scoring and tough defense was too much for the visitors.

Amanda Forster stuffed the stat sheet and led the defense with 3 deflected passes. Sarah Curtiss was the team leader with 7 steals while Forster stole 6 and Addie Sanford grabbed 5 thefts. Sanford also added a blocked shot. Aitkin dominated the boards again as Forster grabbed 14 boards, Sam Hanson-12, Christine Daehlen-8 and Myah Newton recorded 7 rebounds. On the offensive end, Curtiss was also very active leading the Lady Gobblers with 6 assists. Brooklyn Brezinsky, Hanson, Jillian MacDonald, Curtiss and Forster led the team with 9 points each, while Newton and Sanford each added 7 points. The Aitkin Girls JV are 20-1 on the season (13-0 in the GRC) and they start their 4th straight "3 game week" nest Tuesday in Onamia. February 9, 2017 Aitkin 58 CI 43 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team travelled to CI Thursday night and beat the Rangers 58-43 for their eighth straight win. On the defensive end, Myah Newton led the team with 5 pass deflections and Brooklyn Brezinsky was the leader in steals with 4 thefts. Sam Hanson and Brynn Wilson each blocked a shot. Amanda Forster was the leading rebounder for the Lady Gobblers with 9, Hanson grabbed 8 and Addie Sanford snared 7 rebounds as Aitkin dominated the glass. Brezinsky led the offense with 5 assists on the night. Sarah Curtiss had a breakout night, hitting 5 for 10 from downtown and she led the scoring with 16, Ramsey Moe netted 11, Newton-10, Brezinsky-6, Forster-5, McKenna MacDonald-4, Hanson, Wilson and Sanford each scored 2. The Girls JV season record is 19-1 (12-0 in the Great River Conference) and they face Ogilvie at home Friday night. February 7, 2017 Aitkin 61 Hinckley-Finlayson 17 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team went on the road Tuesday night and beat Hinckley-Finlayson 61-17 on the Jaguar home court. Aitkin played great defense and the Gobbler offense was just as efficient with only 13 turnovers and 38% shooting from the field, including 8/18 from beyond the arc. Sam Hanson and Sarah Curtiss were active on the defensive end with 3 pass deflections a piece. Myah Newton led the team in steals with 4, while Christine

Daehlen, Jillian MacDonald and McKenna MacDonald each grabbed 3 steals. Hanson and Addie Sanford each blocked a shot. Amanda Forster led the rebounders with 10 and Hanson added 6 boards to lead Aitkin in the rebounding department. On offense, Jillian MacDonald was the assist leader with 4 and Newton added 3 dimes. Brynn Wilson led the scoring with 12, Forster scored 11 and recorded her third double-double of the season, Brooklyn Brezinsky and J. MacDonald each netted 8, Newton -7, Sanford-6, Curtiss -5, Hanson and M. MacDonald scored 2 a piece. The Girls JV is 18-1 (12-0 in the GRC) and they travel to CI Thursday to take on the Rangers in a season rematch. February 3, 2017 Aitkin 41 Braham 26 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team showed a lot of grit Friday night winning their 5th straight game in 8 days, 41-26 over Braham on the Bombers home court. Myah Newton led the defense with 5 deflected passes. Newton and Sarah Curtiss were on top of the steals list with 3 a piece. Sam Hanson blocked 1 shot. Addie Sanford and Amanda Forster led rebounders with 8 each, Hanson and Curtiss each added 7 boards. Brooklyn Brezinsky dished out 3 assists to lead the offense. Forster dominated the paint and led the scoring with 18, Newton netted 8, Jillian MacDonald and McKenna MacDonald added 5 each, Sanford -4 and Hanson made a free throw to round out the scoring. The JV Girls are 17-1 (11-0 in the GRC) and they go on the road again Tuesday to take on Hinckley Finlayson. February 2, 2017 Aitkin 68 Ogilvie 25 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team hammered Ogilvie 68-25 at Ogilvie Thursday night. Solid defense and good shooting (40% from the field and 64% from the line) offset a multitude of turnovers on offense. Sam Hanson led the defensive effort with 4 deflected passes. Myah Newton lead the team with 5 steals along with Jillian MacDonald and Amanda Forster each grabbing 4 steals. Sarah Curtiss blocked 2 shots and Hanson stuffed one. Hanson led the rebounders with 8 and Newton and Forster each chipped in 7 boards.

Brooklyn Brezinsky was tops on the assist chart with 3 to lead the offense. Newton played her best all around game, leading the scorers with 16 (4 for 4 from downtown), Forster was solid with 13, J. MacDonald added 10, Ramsey Moe scored 6, Hanson 5, Addie Sanford, McKenna MacDonald and Curtiss each scored 4, and Brynn Wilson and Brezinsky netted 3 each. The Girls JV are now 16-1 (10-0 in the GRC) and they play at Braham Friday night. January 31, 2017 Aitkin 72 Isle 16 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team came out of the locker room ready to play Tuesday night and streaked to a 46-6 halftime lead and finished off Isle 72-16 at home. Sam Hanson and Myah Newton led the defense with 5 and 4 pass deflections, respectively. Newton led the Lady Gobblers with 5 steals, while Jillian MacDonald, Ramsey Moe, Sarah Curtiss and Amanda Forster each recorded 4 thefts. Brooklyn Brezinsky, Hanson and Forster each blocked a shot. Aitkin dominated the boards with Forster grabbing 15, Hanson - 13, Addie Sanford - 8 and Moe- 7 rebounds. The Lady Gobblers gave up only 11 turnovers on offense and shot almost 40% from the field. Curtiss led the team with 5 assists and Newton chipped in 3 dimes. Forster contributed another double-double while leading the scoring with 16, Hanson recorded her first JV double -double adding 13 points, J. MacDonald and Moe each netted 12, Brezinsky - 7, Curtiss and Sanford each scored 4 and Newton and Brynn Wilson each added 2. The Girls JV season record is 15-1 (9-0 in the GRC) and they go on the road Thursday night to play against Ogilvie. January 28, 2017 Aitkin 47 East Central 21 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team hosted East Central Saturday night and beat the visitors 47-21. Great team defense helped the girls overcome poor shooting and too many turnovers. Sarah Curtiss played a great floor game, leading the Lady Gobblers defense with 6 pass deflections and 8 steals. Myah Newton chipped in 5 deflections and Amanda Forster recorded 5 steals, as well. Addie Sanford and Forster led the rebounders with 9 boards a piece.

On the offensive end, Sanford and Curtiss each dished out 2 assists to lead Aitkin. McKenna MacDonald led the scoring with 10 points, Forster and Ramsey Moe each netted 7, Sam Hanson and Brooklyn Brezinsky each scored 6, Jillian MacDonald - 5, Sanford - 4 and Newton scored 2. The Lady Gobblers JV season record is 14-1 (8-0 in the GRC) and they play Isle next Tuesday at home. January 27, 2017 Aitkin 45 Pillager 10 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team went on the road again Friday night and beat Pillager 45-10. The Gobblers played great team defense shutting out Pillager 27-0 at the half and cruising to a lopsided victory. Addie Sanford and Jillian MacDonald led the defense, each deflecting 4 passes and McKenna MacDonald grabbed 4 steals to lead the Lady Gobblers. Sanford and Amanda Forster were the top rebounders with 8 boards a piece, while Sarah Curtiss also chipped in 6 big rebounds. On the offensive end, Brooklyn Brezinsky dished out 4 assists to lead Aitkin. Forester led the scoring with 12, Sanford 8, Ramsey Moe 7, Brynn Wilson netted 5, Myah Newton 4 Sam Hanson 3, while J. MacDonald, M. MacDonald and Curtiss each scored 2. The Girls JV season record is 13-1 (7-0 in the Great River Conference) and they play again Saturday night at home against East Central. January 23, 2017 Aitkin 58 Barnum 17 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team got back in the win column Monday night when they travelled to Barnum and thumped the Bombers 58-17. The Gobblers outscored Barnum 36-5 in the second half to win going away. Aitkin shot better (36% from the field and 17 for 31 from the line) and committed only 13 turnovers. Myah Newton and Ramsey Moe led the team defense with 5 and 4 pass deflections, respectively. Newton and Moe also led the defensive effort with 4 steals a piece. Aitkin recorded 48 team rebounds with Sam Hanson and Addie Sanford leading the team with 8 each. Amanda Forster also chipped in 7 boards. Brooklyn Brezinsky led the offense with 4 assists and Sarah Curtiss dished out 3.

Moe lead the scoring with 9, Forster, Hanson and Sanford each scored 8 in the paint, McKenna MacDonald netted 7, Jillian MacDonald and Sarah Curtiss each knocked in 6,Brynn Wilson scored 4 and Newton added a bucket. The Girls JV is sitting at 12-1 (7-0 in the GRC) and they play on the road Friday night in Pillager. January 17, 2017 Aitkin 33 Pequot Lakes 47 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team travelled to Pequot Lakes on Tuesday and the Patriots snapped Aitkin's 11 game win streak beating Aitkin 47-33. Ramsey Moe registered 3 pass deflections and McKenna MacDonald had 4 steals to lead Aitkin on the defensive end. Amanda Forster grabbed 11 boards and Addie Sanford snared 9 to lead the rebounders. Offensively, Brynn Wilson and M. MacDonald each dished out 3 assists to lead the Lady Gobblers. Forster led the scoring with 9, Moe dropped in 6, Brooklyn Brezinsky and Myah Newton each netted 5, Sanford and M. MacDonald each added 4. The Girls JV is now 11-1 on the year (7-0 in the GRC), and they will play Moose Lake - Willow River on Friday at home. January 13, 2017 Aitkin 52 Pine City 48 The Aitkin Gobbler Girls JV Basketball Team went on the road Friday night and won a hard fought battle over Pine City 52-48. Aitkin's defense held the Jaguars to 4 field goals and 3 free throws for the entire game. Better shooting and a lack of turnovers on offense helped the Lady Gobblers put up big numbers on offense. McKenna MacDonald led the defense with 3 deflections, while Addie Sanford and Ramsey Moe each recorded 5 steals to lead the team. Moe also blocked a shot. Sam Hanson led the rebounders with 7 boards. On the offensive end, Myah Newton led with 4 assists and Sarah Curtiss and Brooklyn Brezinsky each chipped in 3 dimes. The Lady Gobblers overcame poor shooting by playing great defense with only 9 team fouls and great rebounding. On defense, the Gobblers notched 29 team steals with Ramsey Moe leading with 6, Brooklyn Brezinsky and Myah Newton each added 5 thefts. Brezinsky and Newton each deflected 6 balls to lead the team. Sam Hanson and McKenna MacDonald each blocked a shot. Amanda Forster led the rebounders with 11, while M. MacDonald grabbed 10 and freshman Addie Sanford chipped in 9 rebounds. On the offensive end, M. MacDonald and Sarah Curtiss each had 3 assists to lead Aitkin. Newton led the scoring with 9, Forster added 7, M. December 28, 2016 Aitkin 49 Deer River 44 The Aitkin Girls JV Basketball Team won their Christmas Tournament Championship Game 49-44 over Deer River on Wednesday. The Gobblers played tough defense against a physical, veteran opponent. Myah Newton had the most pass deflections with 5 and Amanda Forster led the team with 4 steals. Sam Hanson blocked 2 shots. McKenna MacDonald led the rebounders with 10 and Forster also grabbed 8 boards. Sarah Curtiss led the offense with 7 assists. Ramsey Moe was the high scorer with 12, Forster scored 11, Addie Sanford 6, M. MacDonald 5, Newton and Hanson netted 4 a piece, Brooklyn Brezinsky 3, and Curtiss and Brynn Wilson each scored 2. The JV Girls are sitting at 8-0 and play CI next Tuesday night at Aitkin. December 27, 2016 Aitkin 47 Foley 44 The Aitkin Girls JV Basketball Team opened the Christmas Tournament with a 47-44 win over Foley on Tuesday. Aitkin overcame poor shooting and way too many turnovers with gritty defense and tough rebounding. Brynn Wilson and Sarah Curtiss led the defense with 2 deflections a piece. McKenna MacDonald was tops in steals with 5 and she also blocked a shot. Amanda Forster led the rebounders with 8 and Sam Hanson, M. MacDonald and Ramsey Moe each chipped in 6 boards. Brooklyn Brezinsky and M. MacDonald led the team with 3 assists each on the offensive end. Brezinsky and Myah Newton each scored 10 points to lead the scoring, Forster and M. MacDonald each netted 6, Curtiss and Addie Sanford each scored 4, Wilson and Moe each had 3 points and Hanson finished with 1. The JV Lady Gobblers finished the night at 7-0 and play Deer River for the championship. December 13, 2016 Aitkin 50 Braham 35 The Aitkin Gobbler JV Basketball Team hosted a tough Braham Bomber JV on Tuesday night and came away with a 50-35 victory.

On the defensive end, Myah Newton and Brynn Wilson led the team with 2 deflected passes a piece. Amanda Forster recorded 5 steals to lead the Lady Gobblers. Ramsey Moe and Addie Sanford blocked 2 shots each and Myah Newton swatted one. Forster also led the rebounders with 7, while Newton and Sanford each grabbed 6 boards. Newton also led with 5 assists on the offensive end. Forster was the leading scorer with 18 points in the paint, McKenna Macdonald netted 10, Brooklyn Brezinsky, Sanford and Moe (one half) each tallied 6 and Newton and Sarah Curtiss each scored a bucket to round out the scoring. The Lady Gobblers JV season record stands at 4-0 and they are 4-0 in the Great River Conference. They travel to East Central Thursday night for another GRC matchup. December 9, 2016 Aitkin 48 Rush City 18 The Aitkin Girls JV Basketball Team travelled to Rush City Friday night to play the Tigers. Aitkin's pressure defense led the Gobblers to a 33-6 halftime lead and they won by a final score of 48-18. Defensively, the Lady Gobblers were very active with 25 steals and Myah Newton grabbed 7 to lead the team. McKenna MacDonald lead the team with 6 tipped passes, while Brynn Wilson and Amanda Forster each added 5 deflections. Wilson, Forster and Addie Sanford each blocked a shot, as well. Amanda Forster lead the rebounders with 11 and Addie Sanford also chipped in 9 boards. On the offensive end, Brooklyn Brezinsky led the team with 3 assists. Ramsey Moe played only the first half and led the Gobblers in scoring with 12 points, M. MacDonald added 10, Forster just missed her second double-double scoring 8, Sanford and Newton each dropped in 7, Sarah Curtiss netted 3 and Wilson scored 1 point. Sam Hanson and Jillian MacDonald did not play due to injuries. The Girls JV Team record stands at 3-0 (2-0 in the Great River Conference) and they host Braham next Tuesday night. December 2, 2016 Aitkin 48 Pine City 37 The Junior Varsity girls basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season by defeating the Pine City Dragons on Friday night. The final score ended at 48-37.

Brooklyn Brezinsky led the way offensively with 15 points, including 4 three pointers. Amanda Forster reached double digits, scoring 10 points. Kaija Davies added 8 points, while Myah Newton chipped in 5 points. The girls played tenacious defense, creating 25 steals as a team. Kaija Davies had 5 steals while Myah Newton grabbed 4 steals. November 29, 2016 Aitkin 58 Isle 37 The Aitkin Girls JV Basketball Team opened the season at Isle Tuesday night as they exploded to a 34-10 halftime lead and came home a 58-37 winner. The Lady Gobblers overcame poor shooting with tough defense (26 steals and 17 tipped balls) and dominant work on the boards (31 offensive rebounds and 47 total rebounds). On the defensive end, Brynn Wilson lead the team with 5 tipped balls, while Addie Sanford and McKenna MacDonald deflected 4 each. Brooklyn Brezinsky, Myah Newton, Jillian MacDonald and McKenna MacDonald recorded 4 steals a piece to lead the Lady Gobblers. Sam Hanson and M. MacDonald each recorded a blocked shot. Amanda Forster grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Aitkin, Hanson hauled in 7 boards, Sanford and M. MacDonald each grabbed 6 rebounds. Offensively, Brezinsky and M. MacDonald each had 3 assists to lead Aitkin. Brezinsky also led the team in scoring with 18 points, knocking in 4 of 7 from 3 point range and 4 of 4 from the line. Forster recorded her first double-double scoring 14 points, Kaija Davies scored 6, Sarah Curtiss netted 5, Newton, Wilson and J. MacDonald each put in 4 points, Sanford scored 2 and Hanson added a free throw. Aitkin's JV Girls are 1-0 for the season and 1-0 in the Great River Conference. They play Pine City at home on Friday night.
