Prospect Hill Lunchtime Enrichment Schedule of Classes Winter 2015 MONDAYS MIXED MEDIA: Pelham Art Center Create Your Own Spaceship! Students explore many art-making techniques and media including paint, paper, and wood found objects while creating spaceships. CHEERLEADING: Ballet Arts Students will learn choreographed dances to upbeat cheer mixes to be performed as a group. Also students will develop the technical skills of motions and jumps while learning cheers and chants to show their spirit. Overall: everyone will work together and demonstrate the main skill needed in cheerleading: smiling! *SECRET AGENT LAB: Mad Science Step into the shoes of a detective and uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. You will probe the science of tracking as you stamp out scenarios and uncover codes in this session. Some of weekly topics in this session include: Crime Lab: Cracking the Case: The Science of Security: Agent Undercover: Sleuths on the Scene: Funky Forensics: Spy Academy: Junior Detectives: Discover Detection and Whodunit? Join the fun by learning a dance number and be on stage as a Rockette in the opening act of the Prospect Hill Spring 2015 Talent Show (plus three practices and one dress rehearsal- dates to follow). COME OUT AND CLAY: Sara Mallach In this class we will use a variety of techniques to create polymer clay masterpieces. We will make whimsical hanging mini-sculptures, pins, magnets, millefiori beads, realistic miniatures, buttons and key fobs. Class interest and our imaginations will drive our themes. SCREENWRITING: Mimi Steinburg Do you love movies? Have you ever wondered how to write one? In this class students will continue learning about writing character, plot development and action. We will read actual screenplays of favorite movies, discuss them and become inspired to write one! Page 1 of 6
TUESDAYS FUN WITH POTTERY: Emilia Grabowski Paint your own pottery and take home keepsakes to use and treasures including bowls, plates, mugs, banks, boxes, animals, etc. DINOSAUR ART: Dorothy Cancellieri Draw: paint: collage and sculpt your own unique dinosaurs and have fun using your wildest imagination while exploring a variety of visual arts media. MUSIC WITH ZEV: Zev Haber Music Rocks! Come sing: dance and play in this fun: interactive music and movement class with children s musician Zev Haber. Using instruments: songs: dances and stories: kids learn through musical play and actively participate in creative music making processes. SPANISH: Orieta Vignola Have fun learning Spanish language skills such as basic vocabulary and common phrases through songs: games and other activities including stories from various Hispanic cultures as well as American literature. ALL THE WORLD S A STAGE: Rita Martell An exciting introduction to theater and performing culminating in plays performed for the whole school during an assembly. CARTOON DRAWING: Michael Teator Drawing favorite cartoon characters as well as learning to create your own complete character with background. MUSIC VIDEO: Mimi Steinberg Create your very own music video. Students will collaborate and make a music video to their favorite song. They will learn how to direct, act, and create a narrative to the song as well as star in the video! At the end of the class they will have a DVD of their work as well as a screening held at for the school and family. SEW MUCH FUN: Trish Knickerbocker Beginner's Sewing class. Students will learn to straight stitch and whip stitch to make a variety of creative projects. Every enrichment session will feature new projects to keep it fresh. Student will practice their new skills to make items like pillows: personalized monster dolls and other stuff friends: drawstring bags: a hanging organizer: fun accessories and much more... MAGIC: Joe Fields Amaze your family and fool your friends when you learn the art of magic. CREATIVE MOVEMENTS: Ballet Arts Boys and girls learn musicality through movement in a new creative environment while developing their skills and working together. The course teaches shapes, tempo, posture and group dynamics using imagination and play, against a backdrop of exciting music promoting a lifelong joy of dance. LEGO BUILDING: Brick Kids, Linda Tedesco American Adventures. Join the minifigs as they: build an Alaskan outpost and view polar bears, fly over a volcano Iin Hawaii, balloon ride over the Grand Canyon in Arizona, surf the California coast, and more! My minifigs new had so much fun! We learn about the states as we go on this LEGOtm brick adventure! This class develops social and presentation skills and encourages team building.
