Meanwhile, the Lions have lost five straight games and hope to end that slide before resuming conference play. Dave Grosby and Gary Hill, Jr., will broadcast the game live on 710 ESPN Seattle beginning with the pregame show shortly before tipoff. THE FRESNO STATE GAME: A first half defensive breakdown proved to be too much, as Seattle University dropped an 86-56 decision at Fresno State last Monday at the Save Mart Center. The Redhawks opened the game with a 5-0 run, before playing back-and-forth with the Bulldogs. Each side saw the lead transfer, but Seattle U would hold a 17-15 lead for nearly three minutes, until Fresno State s Bracken Funk received a pass from Tyler Johnson to send in a trey at 10:50. Cervante Burrell would respond by sinking a jumper to reestablish the Redhawks lead, 19-18, at 10:0; however it would be the last time Seattle U would hold the point advantage in the contest. Fresno State then took off on a 1-0 run over the next five minutes. Their scoring run would be the necessary catalyst for the Bulldogs to take control of the game. The Bulldogs went into the break holding a 44-9 advantage. The second half proved to be an uphill battle that the Redhawks were unable to overcome, despite the offensive efforts of freshman Sterling Carter, who scored 11 of his team-leading 16 points in the final half of action. Aaron Broussard and Alex Jones both scored in double figures as well, with 1 and 10 points, respectively. JESUIT BASKETBALL SPOTLIGHT: Monday s matchup between Seattle University and Loyola Marymount is part of the nationwide Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project, using Jesuit basketball to raise awareness of Jesuit education. Both SU and LMU are Jesuit schools. The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project highlights more than 90 games this season between men s and women s teams from the 8 Jesuit colleges and universities across the United States. Each of the 8 is dedicated to strong academics and teaching women and men to serve others and live a faith that does justice.

The two teams were West Coast Athletic Conference foes from 1971-80, with Seattle U earning a 1-5 advantage during that time. Loyola Marymount was the final home opponent for Seattle University in 1980, the final year of the first Division I era, as well as the first Division I home opponent for Seattle U as it started its second Division I era in 008-09. Loyola Marymount had earned victories in Los Angeles during the 1995-96 (70-55) and 1996-97 (8-51) seasons before Seattle U picked up the 49-9 victory on Jan. 1, 009, at KeyArena at Seattle Center. LAST MEETING: Six players scored in double figures for Loyola Marymount as the Lions earned a 104-89 victory over Seattle University Dec. 0, 009, at Gersten Pavilion. The Redhawks finished the 009-10 season with a 10- home record and has compiled a 5- record at the Key so far in 010-11. THE LEADER OF THE REDHAWKS: Cameron Dollar is in his second year as the head coach of the Seattle University men s basketball team. After leading the team to a 17-14 record in 009-10, he was named Independent Coach of the Year. He did not need to leave the city of Seattle to accept this position, as he had been an assistant coach at the University of Washington under Lorenzo Romar for seven seasons. In 008-09, the Huskies won their first outright Pac-10 regular season title since 195. Dollar also was instrumental in helping Washington reach the Sweet 16 in both 005 and 006. Dollar joined Romar at Saint Louis in 1999, helping the Bilikens win the Conference USA tournament championship in 000. After spending one season as an assistant for Pat Douglass at UC Irvine, Dollar became the nation s youngest head coach in 1998, taking over the program at Southern California College (now Vanguard University), where he went 11- in one season. Starting with that game, Burrell averaged 1.9 points per game over the next 11 contests despite battling through a knee injury suffered at the end of the Dec. 1 game at Portland State. Burrell got off to a slow start as 011 began, but in two of the last three games, he has shown his old form of driving to the basket. Against Utah Valley, the junior finished with 18 points and five assists. At Cal State Northridge, he scored 0 points, plus notched his first career double-double with a career-high 10 rebounds in the Redhawks 75-68 win. Those performances helped put him on the All-Tournament Team at the UC Irvine subregional of the K Sports Classic Benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. On Nov. 9, he hit the go-ahead three-pointer on his way to a 0-point, 1-rebound performance as SU defeated Montana State, 7-70. Broussard currently leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Broussard has notched six double-doubles so far this season. He needs 17 points to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career. THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE: Alex Jones started the season by leading the Redhawks with 0 points at Maryland on Nov. 8. He contributed 10 points in the home opener against Cal Poly and 11 points in the Redhawks 8-80 victory over Oregon State. On Dec. 18 against San Jose State, he scored a season-high 1 points in part on 6-of-6 field goal shooting. He repeated that 1-point performance Jan. 6 against Eastern Washington, shooting 7-of-14 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
