McDougall (a)(injured), A. Sweeney(a)(ill) and K. Adams(ill) were unable to fulfil their riding engagements, Stewards approved the following rider substitutions. Owen(a) on Zarina s Gold M. Taylor on Mrs Zeltfire RACE 1: Maiden Plate 1000m Division 1: Eagle Point- Bounded on jumping and lost ground. Powerscourt- Laid inwards in the straight. Uisce Beatha- Near the 600m Uisce Beatha suffered an injury to its near foreleg and was retired from the race. Uisce Beatha was subsequently humanely euthanised. The relevant section of track was inspected by Stipendiary Steward C. Polglase who reported no areas of concern. After taking evidence from trainer P. Sweeney and jockey N. Heywood the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed to allow Stewards to obtain veterinary and stable treatment records for Uisce Beatha. Kungaru- Crowded after the start when Powerscourt was taken outwards by Uisce Beatha. RACE 2: Maiden Plate 1000m Division 2: Holmesy- Raced wide throughout. Rider R. Bensley could offer no explanation for today s performance adding the gelding did not travel well at any stage and did not respond to his riding in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities.
None So Bright- Raced wide throughout. Rider S. Miller stated the gelding may have felt the effects of racing on a heavy surface at Nowra on 8 July 2018 as it raced very flat today and did not travel well at any stage. Trainer N. Osborne agreed with the rider s comments and advised the gelding would not be sent for a spell. The Middle Man- Trainer A. Barton could offer no explanation for the gelding s improved performance stating they had not varied the horses work or changed its racing gear and today s win had caught the stable by surprise. Madam Palmer- Hung outwards on the home turn. O rana Belle- Slow to begin. Sparkle And Shine- Raced wide throughout. Hung inwards under pressure in the straight. RACE 3: Maiden Handicap 1400m: Angelify- Slow to begin. Rider L. Smith was found guilty of a charge under AR137(b) in that he did fail to ride his mount out for the final two strides of the event and thereby jeopardised its chances of finishing in third position. L. Smith s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday 1 August 2018 and to expire on Wednesday 8 August 2018, on which day he may ride. In assessing penalty Stewards considered L. Smith s excellent record in relation to breaches of this rule. Delta Rose- Taken back from a wide barrier to obtain cover. Heza Jolly Swagman- Raced wide throughout. Orange Caviar- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. RACE 4: Class 2 Handicap 1200m: Flying Frog- Raced wide throughout. Steadied near the 1000m when crowded between Never Tempted and Rock n Roller which laid out and away from Marco Man. Rider B. Ward stated his mount was crowded on jumping and then after receiving crowding near the 1000m his mount switched off and did not travel from that point. He added the gelding may not have appreciated the firm track. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Trainer R. Osborne was advised that Flying Frog, which was beaten 30L would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. Marco Man- Bumped on jumping. Rock n Roller- Underwent a veterinary examination after being kicked behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race. Rider S. Miller stated his mount never felt good in its action at any stage and may have jarred up on the firm track. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Trainer W. Carroll advised the gelding would undergo a thorough examination by his stable veterinarian and he undertook to report back to Stewards the veterinary findings and immediate racing plans for the gelding. All Aflutter- Shifted out under pressure in the straight. Cama de Rosas- Underwent a veterinary examination after being kicked behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race. Slow to begin.
Xian s Pride- Bumped on jumping. RACE 5: Benchmark 65 Handicap 1000m: Grey Strike- Bled for the first time during the event. Trainer P. Sweeney was advised that under the provisions of AR53A the gelding would incur a three month ban from racing. Brockton Punch- Severely crowded on jumping. Eastern Pegasus- Lost ground near the 600m after it laid out across the heels of Mitchell Road. Laid out on the home turn and when placed under pressure in the straight. Rider S. Miller stated his mount hung outwards throughout the event and proved difficult to ride out fully. Oscar The Grouch- Raced wide throughout. Held up in the early part of the straight. Could not be tested over the final 50m when awkwardly placed on heels. Va Bene Amore- Raced wide throughout. RACE 6: Benchmark 65 Handicap 2100m: Charcuterie- Held up and steadied for some distance between the 500m and 300m after improving onto the heels of Sister Hazel, which was giving ground. Rider L. German(a), in the presence of apprentice mentor B. Clark was taken through all available camera angles and advised that in the opinion of the Stewards he had erred in riding his mount along passing the 500m when it was obvious the leader had commenced to weaken and that he should have looked to attempt to gradually shift out and obtain clear running from that point. A post-race veterinary examination found the gelding to be lame (3/5) in the near fore. Stable representative S. McIlrick was advised a veterinary clearance must be submitted prior to the horse racing again. Big Haz- Rider J. Duffy explained the gelding did not let down on today s firm track surface. Test a Day- Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Rider R. Bensley stated from a wide barrier his mount was caught wide and never travelled well at any stage on the fast tempo. H added the mare was under pressure from the 800m and may not have appreciated the firm track. A postrace veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Bromach- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Monsoon Charlie- Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Sleep n Pete- Trainer L. McGill was fined $50 under AR59A for failing to present the Thoroughbred Identity Card for the gelding when requested. Frozen Asset- Raced wide throughout. RACE 7: Narrandera Cup Open Handicap 1600m: Hunamosa- Laid inwards in the straight. Man of Peace- Laid out under pressure in the straight. Zarlu- Slow to begin
Lucky Paddy- Slow to begin. Rinviata- Steadied passing the 300m when Marquee rolled outwards. Rider S. Miller explained his mount travelled well in the early stages but was under pressure passing the 500m and did not let down on the firm track. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Uncle Tiger- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Willy White Socks- Raced wide throughout. Nagging- Slow to begin. All Day Every Day- B. Vale replaced R. Bensley (overweight) as the rider of the gelding. R. Bensley was fined $200 under AR120(b). Hung outwards in the straight. RACE 8: Benchmark 55 Handicap 1400m Division 1: Smart Al- Laid outwards under pressure in the straight obliging the rider to stop and straighten his mount passing the 100m. Red s Sister Rosie- Held up and unable to improve between the 400m and 300m. Steadied near the 300m when disappointed for a run while laying inwards. Zarvalante- Bumped heavily after the start. Rider B. Ward could offer no explanations for today s performance adding after being slow to begin his mount travelled well throughout but failed to respond to his riding in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Falcon Rubi- Severely crowded on jumping. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 75m. More Ransom- Bumped heavily after the start. RACE 9: Benchmark 55 Handicap 1400m Division 2: Curragh King- Raced wide throughout. Zarina s Gold- Slow to begin (3L). Rider B. Owen stated his mount, which was beaten 37L, stood flatfooted on jumping and was ridden hard throughout to attempt to make up ground. He added the mare was under pressure from the 500m and found little. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Trainer M. Sparrow advised the mare would now be retired. Notwithstanding this advice Mr Sparrow was advised that should plans for the mare change it would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. Kruanui- Held up making the home turn. Cooee March- Raced wide throughout. Paris Reward- After taking initial evidence from rider J. Duffy an inquiry into to his riding of the mare, and in particular his vigour in the straight was adjourned to a date to be fixed to allow
Stewards to view the mare s most recent runs and to review betting on the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Mrs Zeltfire- Rider M. Taylor stated her mount did not stretch out during the event and may have felt today s firm track. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Trainer J. Tyack was advised the mare, which was beaten 30L, would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permissible strikes with the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) Race 3 L.
