He also pulled down 3.7 rebounds while playing in all 36 games, making eight starts. Juniors Norville Carey and Jamie Chapman also return to the squad. Southern Miss Looks to Make Up For Lost Production Southern Miss will look to make up for a lot of lost production this year. The Golden Eagles will be without their top five scorers and top three rebounders from last year. Entering the 2014-15 season, Southern Miss returns just 24.5% of its scoring and 32.4% of its rebounding from last year. Exhibition Games Southern Miss is 41-6 all-time in exhibition games, including having won its last 16. This will be the fourth straight season that the Eagles will play at least one exhibition game. In fact, Southern Miss has won 37 of its last 38 nonconference home games, with the only loss coming to BYU in the quarterfinals of the 2013 NIT. Its non-conference success is not limited to Reed Green Coliseum. With victories at DePaul, North Dakota State, South Alabama, Rhode Island and Missouri last year, Southern Miss has won 19 of its last 28 non-conference true road games since the beginning of the 2009-10 season. Wins vs. Losses In its 29 victories last year, Southern Miss dominated the stat sheet, especially in field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage and rebounding. However, in its seven losses, the Golden Eagles struggled in all three categories. Below is a breakdown of Southern Miss and its opponents field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage and rebounding in their wins and losses. Category Wins Losses FG%.471.430 Opp. FG%.412.481 3Pt FG%.353.333 Opp. 3Pt FG %.317.423 Rebounding 36.4 32.7 Opp. Rebounding 28.7 31.1 Consecutive Games With A Three Southern Miss has connected on at least one threepointer in the last 142 games. It is the second longest three-point streak in school history. The Golden Eagles last went without a trey on March 10, 2010 against Tulane in the Conference USA Tournament. UNLV currently holds the nation s longest streak at 908 consecutive games. Southern Miss longest streak with a three-pointer is 188 games, from March 15, 1990 until January 25, 1997. UNLV (908) and Vanderbilt (896) are the only two schools to have made at least one three-pointer in every game since the NCAA adopted the three-point line prior to the 1986-87 season. Winning the Rebound Battle Southern Miss historically has been tough on the boards. In fact, you have to go back to the 2001-02 season when the Eagles lost the rebounding battle. Over the past nine seasons, the Black and Gold have owned the boards, and in six of those years, they have averaged over 36 rebounds per game. Last year, the Golden Eagles dominated the boards. Southern Miss pulled down 35.7 rebounds per game while holding the opposition to just 29.2, which led Conference USA. In fact, Southern Miss outrebounded its opponents by double-digits 11 times this year, including a seasonbest 28 against Drexel (Jan. 3) Most Familiar Foes Below is a look at Southern Miss most familiar foes in school history. For all four players, it was their first career honor. It is the first time Southern Miss has earned the honor four times in one season. In fact, it is just the second time in C-USA history that a team had four different players earn the award. November Reign Since 2005, Southern Miss has won 21 consecutive November home games. Over that span, the Black and Gold have had only two games decided by single digits and 12 of the games were decided by at least 20 points. In those games, Southern Miss won by an average of 26.1 points. In fact, the Golden Eagles have won 53 of 55 November home games all-time, with the only losses coming in 2005 to Samford and 1985 to Fairmont State. Since the start of the 1997-98 season, Southern Miss is 65-16 (.802) in all November games. Under the Hill When Southern Miss held Florida Atlantic to 49 points on Mar. 2, it was the fourth time that the Golden Eagles held its opponent to 50 points or less. Since 2004, the Black and Gold is 33-2 when holding the opposition to 50 points or less, and have won its last 32. Opening the Year at Home Southern Miss opened will its season at home for the 41st time, including the fourth consecutive year. In home openers, the Black and Gold is 57-12 (.826) and have won 20 of 21, including the last eight. Four-Year Success Southern Miss just finished its best four-year stretch in terms of victories in school history. Over the past four seasons, the Golden Eagles compiled a record of 103-36 (.741). The 103 wins are the most in a four-year stretch in school history, surpassing the previous mark of 100 from 1950-54.
