HAPPY LABOR DAY! - SEPT. 4, 2017

Transcription:

1 It s hard to believe that September is here already, before long the leaves will be changing, as well as the weather! Fall is a wonderful time of year, and after a long and HOT summer, everyone seems to enjoy a change of pace. Before we rush off to football games, festivals and all the fall things we love, let s take a moment and celebrate our workers. Labor Day is September 3 rd, and this is a day to celebrate workers nationwide. A little history about Labor Day; the first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883. In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country. 3 rd - Labor Day 4 th - Macadamia Nut Day 6 th - Coffee Ice Cream Day 9 th - Grandparent s Day 9 th - Teddy Bear Day 10 th - Hot Dog Day 11 th - Anniversary of 9/11 14 th - Cream-Filled Doughnut Day 17 th - Apple Dumpling Day 19 th - Butterscotch Pudding Day 22 nd -Fall Begins 26 th - Key Lime Pie Day 26 th - Johnny Appleseed Day 28 th - Strawberry Cream Pie Day While it is not possible to give all the workers at Westview Acres this day to relax and enjoy, we can make it a better day for them by simply saying Thank-You; thank you for your hard work and dedication, thank you for the care and compassion you give to all of our residents, thank you to your families for sharing you with us. For all of this and so much more, Thank You to all of the staff at Westview Acres and Thank You to all of the residents at Westview Acres who some years ago, were the workers who deserved the day off too. Thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Ron Boyer We would like to welcome Ray Dawson Johnny Appleseed Yes, there was a real John Chapman who planted thousands of apple trees on U.S. soil. But the apples on those trees were much

more bitter than the ones you d find in the supermarket today. Johnny Appleseed didn t expect his fruits to be eaten whole, but rather made into hard cider.
