The City of Kaukauna Authorized Deer Hunt The 1000 Islands Environmental Center Committee with the City Council have authorized bow hunting to cull deer within the upper woods conservancy. This hunt will run from December 19, 2016 through January 8, 2017. APPLICATION Deer Culling Application Packets (contains application, shooting proficiency test, and other important information) can be obtained at the 1000 Islands Environmental Center located at 1000 Beaulieu Court in Kaukauna. Office hours are weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. To participate in the hunt, you need to pick up, fill out, and deposit in the drop box located at the Kaukauna Sportsmen s Club on Cty. Z the Application, Shooting Proficiency Test, and other required information by Wednesday, December 7, 2016. All state deer hunting regulations apply. Questions regarding application process can be answered by calling the 1000 Islands Environmental Center at 766-4733. REQUIREMENTS Applicants must be a Kaukauna resident or Kaukauna property taxpayer age 18 or older (a copy of a driver s license, utility bill, or tax bill is required with paperwork when turned in). Applicant must successfully pass a shooting proficiency test. Hunter will have only two tries to qualify 2 out of 3 arrows in a 6 inch circle at 20 and 30 yards. The proficiency test will be conducted at the Kaukauna Sportsmen s Club Target Range. See enclosed test form for information, and take the test form with you to the test. Applicant must have a 2016 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Bow Hunting License (attach copy of license when you turn in your application). SPECIAL NOTE It is important for the bow hunter to have in his possession the proper Central Farmland Private Land Doe Permit. Girl Scout Property and the Conservancy Property is Private Land. It is the hunter s responsibility to know where he or she is hunting. QUALIFIED APPLICANTS Once an applicant has passed the proficiency test and turned in their application and required paperwork, they will be placed on the authorized applicant list. From this list, hunters will be selected by lottery (10 selected for each week of the three week hunt) to hunt for a 1-week period within the conservancy and Girl Scout Property. See Map. HUNTERS WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN SELECTED TO HUNT AND WILL BE ISSUED AN AUTHORIZED PERMIT TO HUNT.

POLICIES, RULES & REGULATIONS Bow Hunting Authorization City of Kaukauna Policies, rules & regulations are designed to ensure the safety of residents and others in area being hunted and maximize the desired harvests. Failure to comply with any of these will result in the immediate revocation of hunting authorization and exclusion from future participation in this program. When hunting, each participant shall carry a 1000 Islands Environmental Center 2016/2017 Authorized to Hunt Permit, current Wisconsin Hunting License and I.D. Parking shall be permitted only at entry points: Girl Scout Parking Lot, Nelson Overlook or City Streets. Approved hunters will be authorized to cull up to two does. EACH PARTICIPANT SHALL: Act courteously and respectfully while on the property. When on the property, protect foliage, and plants from damage, alteration or destruction. You may NOT trim tree branches in order to install your hunting stand. Not remove or cut underbrush (i.e. shooting lanes, clearance, etc.) Not use an ATV or motorized vehicle on the property. Hunt only from an elevated tree stand placed a minimum of 8 feet above the base of the tree in which the stand is placed. No ground hunting or shooting from the ground except to dispatch a wounded animal. Use only temporary, removable tree stands. Hunter is responsible for securing stand for the duration of hunting period. Remove climbing aids such as stick ladders and tie-on tree steps from the tree after use when using portable hang-on tree stands. NO SCREW IN STEPS, NAILS OR SCREWS. Stands may be left in place for the duration of your permit. Hunt a minimum of 300 feet (100 yards) from roads and any inhabited private property (residence). Track wounded animal until found. If the animal moves off the assigned property, attempt to obtain permission to trespass for tracking purposes. If unable to obtain permission, notify the game warden immediately at 832-2745 (office) or 362-1078 (cell). Do not trespass on neighboring properties. Field dress animals in the woods, at least 50 yards away from buildings, roads, or other places where non-hunters travel frequently, and 50 yards from any trails. Follow all WDNR regulations for hunting and deer registration.
Account for all arrows used. Report the circumstances of missing or unrecovered arrows on the hunting log sheet. Record on your hunting log the time of arrival and the time of departure from the property. If verbally assaulted, avoid engaging in an argument or becoming abusive. Under such circumstances, leave the area and, if deemed appropriate, call the police at 766-6333. YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO THE HIGHEST HUNTING ETHICS. Any breach of the requirements above will constitute grounds to deny you further hunting access this calendar year and may result in enforcement action being taken by the local WDNR Conservation Warden and/or County Sheriff s Department and/or Kaukauna Police Department.
