SWIM TRAINING 9 APRIL 2016 Official SwimSmart Swim Training session: Saturday, 9 April : 09h00 11h00 only Ensure you have your Timing Chip on. Athletes must enter the chute to be recorded and briefed before entering the water. Exit again over the timing mat. Failure to do so could result in DSQ. Athletes may only swim between first and last buoys. Tog bag area will be provided. Do NOT leave valuables in this area or on the beach!

BIKE CHECK-IN 9 APRIL 2016 Bike Maintenance at entrance to Transition. Transition bag check-in at the same time (Bike and Run bags only). Helmets will be checked. If damaged a new one must be bought at Expo or Bike Maintenance. No covers on bikes overnight.

RACE DAY TRANSPORT 10 APRIL 2016 Transportation along Marine Drive via hop-on / hop-off AVIS shuttles on Sunday morning from 04h45 06h00. On Marine Drive, between the Paxton and Summerstrand Hotels. Athletes caught driving on Marine Drive will be DSQd.
RACE DAY CHECK-IN 10 APRIL 2016 Transition opens at 05h00 and closes at 06h15 for all athletes. Special Needs Bike & Special Needs Run bags must be handed to Globeflight vehicles at entrance to transition. Check your bike one last time before race. Your PRE-labelled bike pump may be left in designated area (not in your bags) in Transition.
RACE DAY CHECK-IN 10 APRIL 2016 Ensure that you have your official swim cap and have your Timing Chip attached to your LEFT leg. Glasses, hearing aids, etc, can be left on the table as you exit Transition. Collect them there again after the swim. Hand in Streetwear Bag at the Streetwear Bag Tent, past the Finish Line near the Medical Tent.
CHIP RULES 10 APRIL 2016 No chip no time Ensure you fasten chip belt on LEFT leg use safety pin to secure. Place chip under wetsuit NOT over. New chips at Drop-out Clerk gazebo as you exit from Transition OR at the last chute before entering the sea swim. It is your responsibility to request new chip if you lose yours.
CHIP RULES 10 APRIL 2016 Every athlete who withdraws from the race, at any time, MUST report to the Drop Out Clerk / Info Tent(s).
SWIM START 10 APRIL 2016 All athletes must be on the beach by 06h25 Land-based Warm-up only as it s a Rolling Start for agegroupers. Swim caps at last chute before entering the sea. Swim Start for MALE Pros will be at 06h30 and FEMALE Pros at 06h35. Age Groupers will start rolling at 06h45. Seed yourself in the relevant holding area according to your predicted swim time : Less than 1 hour 1 hour - 1½ hours 1½ hours 2 hours 2 hours +

SWIM COURSE 10 APRIL 2016 1 lap of 3.8 km Wetsuits are permitted in water temperatures up to 24.5 C. Below 16 C = wetsuit compulsory. 4 x Yellow buoys on each long leg as guider buoys : swim either side. Red buoys are turn / corner markers : swim around.
SWIM COURSE 10 APRIL 2016 Swim course cut-off is 2hr 20min after YOUR start. Swim cut-off will be at the first arch / chute as you exit the water. Wetsuits may be removed to waist only when exiting the swim and fully removed in the change tent only public nudity is prohibited.

TRANSITION: SWIM TO BIKE 10 APRIL 2016 Collect your Bike bag and change in the tent. Place your swim kit in bag, tie the bag and place it into demarcated area outside tent. Sunscreen tent outside Transition Tent Physio Tent next to Medical Tent Follow designated route through Transition to your bike. Helmet clipped before you handle your bike. Mount bike only after Mount / Dismount line outside Transition.

BIKE COURSE 10 APRIL 2016 2 laps of 90km. Race number at back. Full road closure BUT only half the road to cycle on as it is an out-and-back course on same roads : Do NOT cross the centre line. Please ensure family / friends refrain from painting names / numbers on the road.

BIKE COURSE Penalties 10 APRIL 2016 2 Penalty tents: Penalty 1 on Elizabeth Road in Seaview (just after turnaround) Penalty 2 on Marine Drive, 5 th Avenue area. If you receive a penalty, report to first penalty tent you go past. Not showing at a penalty tent after receiving a penalty / report a wrong card, will result in a DSQ (Red card). Penalty rules will remain as per WTC IRONMAN Race Rules EXCEPT Littering = DSQ. Draft rule 12m : measured from the leading edge of the front wheel and extending towards the back of the bike Age Groupers have 25 seconds to overtake. No slingshot overtaking.
BIKE COURSE - Penalties 10 APRIL 2016 Only drafting gives you a time penalty (5min) : Report to first tent after infringement. You must report Blue card number crossed and given stop watch. 3 Drafting (blue) cards DSQ (Red card) Blocking Rule - yellow card. Yellow card : Report to first penalty tent and report Yellow card. Number crossed, resume race. Littering / outside (non-official) help DSQ. Cell phone / MP3 device DSQ.
BIKE COURSE Aid Stations 10 APRIL 2016 Aid Stations every 20km 25km. Litter zones are 20 m from either side of Aid Stations. NO Personal Seconding is allowed. Foot pump, road bike tubes (while stocks last), tyre levers for use at each Aid Station. You can t take a tube and carry it spare with you; tyre changes must be done at the Aid Station. Special Needs bag can only be collected on second lap : 8 th Avenue area, shortly after start of 2 nd lap. NO personal seconding not even at Special Needs

RACE DAY BIKE MAINTENANCE 10 APRIL 2016 Bike Maintenance jackets will be worn by the mechanics. In Transition, until last athlete is out on the bike course. 3 x Static Bike Maintenance Stations on the bike course: Marine Drive / Admiralty Way intersection (2 km from Start) Schoenmakerskop (20 km from Start) Seaview (43 km from Start) 6 x Roving Motorbikes on the course : 2 per zone. Between Transition and Admiralty Way Bike Maintenance gazebo, there will be no support : push bike to this gazebo. From turnaround in Beachview to the Bike Maintenance gazebo in Seaview, there will be no support : push bike to this gazebo.
RACE DAY BIKE MAINTENANCE 10 APRIL 2016 Limited bike supplies at Aid Stations (as mentioned). Only the cost of road bike tubes (700 C) and bombs will be sponsored. Other bike repair requirements for cost of the athlete : race number will be recorded and photo taken. Post-event, please pay for these items timeously.
SAG (support & gear) 10 APRIL 2016 There will be 2 x SAG transport points on the bike course 1 st at Schoenmakerskop - Aid Station 1 (Khanya) 2 nd will be at Seaview - Penalty Tent 1 Athletes who withdraw from the race must make their way to one of these points (or nearest Aid Station) to be transported, in time, back to IM Village. Be sure that your race number is recorded by the SAG Driver or Radio Hams operator at Aid Stations. Bikes will be transported to Transition for collection at Bike Check-out only.

BIKE COURSE Cut-offs 10 APRIL 2016 1 st Bike cut-off is at 13h15 at the Beach Hotel turnaround on Marine Drive. 2 nd Bike cut-off is at 15h30 at Penalty Tent 1 in Seaview, after the turnaround at Beachview. Bike course cut-off is according to YOUR Start time : course closes 10hr 30mins after your start. If you miss a cut-off you can still be DNF d after the race, in the final results. When cut-offs are implemented, athletes after this time will be removed from the course : you may NOT continue.
TRANSITION BIKE TO RUN 10 APRIL 2016 Dismount before the Dismount line near transition. Rack your own bike in the same place you collected it from. Collect Run bag and change into running kit in changing tent. Race number to the front. Place your bike kit in bag, tie the bag and deposit it into demarcated area outside tent.

ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE 10 APRIL 2016 IN THE EVENT OF A SHORTENED COURSE - The process for athletes is as follows: The call will be made at 06h00 by the Race Director. The announcer will inform the athletes in Transition just after 06h00. SCENARIO 1 : Shortened Swim - All Athletes Distance for all: SWIM 6 buoys BIKE 180.2 km RUN 42.2 km Pros start at 06h30 (Men) and 06h35 (Ladies) : SWIM 6 buoys and continue with the rest of the race Age Groupers : Rolling Start from 06h45 : SWIM 6 buoys and continue with the rest of the race.
ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE 10 APRIL 2016 SCENARIO 2 : Shortened Swim for Pros : SWIM 6 buoys - Start at 06h30 & 06h35 and continue with the rest of the race. ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE 10 APRIL 2016 Process for an Alternative Race Rolling Bike Start : 06h00 : Announcement will be made that the race will be changed to a rolling bike start. Go to your BIKE bag and prepare for the bike leg. The Pro athletes will line up in a chute behind the mount / dismount line at 07h00 : leave in 30 sec intervals. Age-groupers start will be at 07h40. Self-seed yourself in the starting chute at the Bike Exit / Entrance. 2 x Athletes will start every 8 seconds. Start time will be registered at the time YOUR timing chip crosses the mount / dismount line.
ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE 10 APRIL 2016 The cut-off times at 13h15 at the turnaround in front of the Beach Hotel and at 15h30 at Penalty Tent 1 in Seaview will still apply. The final bike cut-off of 8hr 10mins for the bike leg will be done post-race by the Timing company, as everyone s start times will differ. The first cut-off on the run at the start of the last lap will be at 23h00. The final cut-off will again be done by the Timing company, post-race. Please be aware that you could be DNF d after the race, based on final timing verified by the Timing company.
