The 2016-2017 ski season is upon us and I m sure all of us are looking forward to our first runs of the year! The Farmer s Almanac and many experts are predicting a snowy winter for the Northeast. We can only hope it starts early, stays late, and has lots of accumulation in-between. Whatever Mother Nature decides to do, we will have an exciting SCOL season to look forward to. The Board and I have been meeting throughout the summer to ensure that we maximize whatever winter throws our way. SCOL has many events planned and the board has discussed ways to maintain or improve the l e v e l o f s u c c e s s a n d participation for these events. As always, we are looking for more involvement from members! We especially need volunteers to chair some of our events. I m sure some of you have noticed that our website is under construction. The board and I are working diligently to create a new website that will be simplified and useful for all present and future members. We also want to recreate our Facebook page, maki ng i t more informative about future events and club happenings. We have a few wrinkles to work out, but hopefully both the website and Facebook will be where we want it to be before the snow flies. Thank you for your patience. The Board and I are looking forward to seeing you at the first General Membership meeting on September 21st! We have exciting trips to announce and a lot of catching up to do. I am pleased and honored to be involved in helping SCOL plan for the future. I am also blessed to be surrounded by a Board of Officers and Directors as dedicated and competent as this one. I would like to thank everyone on the board for your time and effort. Can t wait to get started!! SKI you all very soon!!! 2016 Installation Dinner Completes SCOL Year It s Always a Good Time New President Delivers Installation Speech SCOL's Installation Diner traditionally ended our 2015-2016 ski club's year of activities. April 30th marked that date at the Lockport Town and Country Club. A great night of food, drink, recognition, fun and dancing was enjoyed by members and guests. A large slate of new officers and board members took their charge and SCOL award recipients were announced. The evening included the usual 50/50 raffle and basket auction. That added some $500+ to our coffers and helps pay DJ Brent who always adds to a good time. Leslie Fitchlee, Ken Urtel, and Pam Fekete After a scrumptious buffet, outgoing and longest serving president, Leslie Fitchlee welcomed all. She recognized outgoing officers, Linda O'Donnell, Betty Spencer, and Melissa Napoli and outgoing 4- year board members, Roxanne Wallace and Peggy Schill. Newly elected officers include President- Bill Fekete, Secretary- Sue Clark, Treasurer- Vito Sportelli, and Sergeant-of-Arms- Jim Higbee. Rusty Fogle will continue as Vice President, with Leslie as 2nd Vice President and advisor to Bill. Andrea Solar continues as our Communications Officer/Membership and Newsletter Publisher. New board members elected include Joe Kubis, Rick McIntosh and Linda O'Donnell, with Mitch Miller continuing for another year. This is the group that will be in charge of all the fun and all the business for 2016-2017! Any questions? Ask President Bill who told us all what to expect in his eloquently delivered speech. SCOL er of the Year award went to a much deserved Leslie Fitchlee. Pam Fekete was given the PathFinder award for her Three Mountain East Trip, Anthony Lozzi was named 2016 Powder Pig, and Ken Urtel was recognized as the Most Improved Skier. Many thanks to all who came, brought baskets, bought raffle tickets, helped out in any way, and danced the night away. We all Had a Good Time." Everyone looked their best, no helmets or goggles required. If you missed this event, you missed a Good Time. Don t miss the party next year! A special THANK YOU to Roxanne Wallace for all of her hard work in making this another great SCOL event! 7

SCOL Bowling Recap On May 13th, SCOLers had their first bowling happy hour at Brad Angelo Lanes in Lockport. Fifteen SCOLers had pizza, wings, and drink specials and enjoyed two hours of open bowling. Scores ranged from under 100 by a number of unnamed bowlers to close to 200 by "Team Rau," reported event chair, Vito Sportelli. As "It's always a good time," participants Susie Reece was excited! expressed interest in making the bowling happy hour an annual event. The management at Brad Angelo Lanes was pleased that their alleys were chosen as the site of our happy hour bowling party and welcomes SCOL to a future event. Miss Buffalo Boat Cruise Recap On June 12th, SCOLers had its second club party on the Miss Buffalo boat cruise hosted by Mo Porter Band leader Chuck Sciandra. Fifty SCOLers went on the boat ride and enjoyed music performed by the Mo Porter Band and a three hour cruise along the shore of Lake Erie and the Black Rock Channel. Unlike the previous year, the weather was fine and everybody had a great time dancing and taking in the sights along the waterfront. "Looks like this has the making of an annual summer SCOL event," said event chair Vito Sportelli. Thank you Vito for organizing two great SCOL events!!! 8

Summer Golf Outing SCOLER S CAN GOLF TOO!! JUNE HAPPY HOUR EVENT We had some excellent golfers come out to Gothic Hill in Lockport on June 24th, 2016. We also had some not so excellent golfers, and a foursome of just party people, no golfing required. After all, the outing also served as our tee- off into summer Happy Hour and enjoyed the beautiful summer night. There were no green jackets awarded but prizes were given as follows: Best Overall Score: Rebecca Orsi Best Female Score: Rebecca Orsi Thank you to Dave Rau for providing some awesome wine prizes and also for repurposing some SCOL Golfing trophies that will be forever cherished. It was a great SCOL kick off summer event. 9

A Picture Perfect Day for a SCOL Picnic!! With about 54 SCOL ers in attendance, we enjoyed a day with great food, drink, friendship and vistas of Loch Moy (Lake of the McIntosh s) and finshed with a wonderful sunset. Despite a couple quick passing sprinkles of rain, we had an epic day. Many brought kayaks and paddle boards to cruise the lake while others enjoyed swimming in the lake. The evening wrapped up with a great bonfire, s mores and some great fireworks. Thank you to everyone who brought a dish to pass. Everything was super delicious. A very HUGE thank you to Andrea Solar for all the preparation and planning efforts and to Rick McIntosh and his family for offering the usage of their cottage. 10
