Our Parkwood Promise Camp Parkwood is dedicated to ensuring your child s fun and safety. Our mission is to provide opportunities for personal growth and memories that will last a lifetime. We are very excited for the 2018 summer season, and we know that this will be our best summer yet! Since 2005, the staff at Camp Parkwood has specialized in summer fun and safety. As our program has grown, so has our love for providing the Great Neck Community with quality summer experiences. We have made changes to our special events and optional trips in order to provide our campers with a new and engaging summer. We look forward to continuing our work, and thank the entire community for its support. Sincerely, Mike Adelstein, Camp Director Dave Riccuiti, Assistant Director Camp Office # 516-482-0342 campparkwood@gmail.com 1 This camp is permitted to operate by the Nassau County Department of Health and is inspected twice yearly. Inspection reports are on file in the camp office or at 106 Charles Linderburgh Blvd, Uniondale NY (516) 227-9717 (9:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.)

Towel Service is Back! First Day Procedures The first day of camp is Monday, June 25. We will be following a regular full day schedule that day. However, our program allows families to register for single weeks throughout the summer, so our staff is trained to welcome first day campers each and every week of the smmer. We train our staff in group dynamics, and each Monday our staff engages all campers in welcoming activities. When your child arrives at camp, whether by bus or parent dropoff, a staff member will welcome your child and then escort your child to the proper group. If a camper is taking the bus, then our bus supervisor, Katherine Flanagan, will take attendance and ensure that your child gets to the correct bus at the end of the day. Throughout the day, your child will be supervised by a group leader and multiple counselors. Campers are supervised at each and every activity. Frequent Concerns That s right, we will be providing two towels everyday! One for morning and one for afternoon swim! Campers are required to wear their Camp Parkwood t-shirts, along with comfortable shorts and sneakers. Campers may not wear flip-flops or sandals, unless they are at the pool. We encourage wearing two-piece bathing suits in order to make bathroom visits run much smoother. Campers should bring a backpack filled with: a bathing suit, a ziplock bag for wet clothes, a change of clothes, suntan lotion, and a tennis racket (based on your group s schedule). ALL swimsuits must be taken home everyday to be laundered. Do not send ipods, iphones, ipads, any portable video games, cell phones, trading cards or any kind of toy to camp. Camp is for socializing and many of these items become broken or lost. Campers who do not go on optional trips will enjoy a regular camp day at our facilities. Label your child s clothing, backpack, and other items. Parents may only visit the Steppingstone facility by making an appointment. For security reasons, all other facilities are closed to parent visitations. Please call 516-482-0342 to make an appointment. Camp Parkwood Administrative Staff Mike Adelstein, Camp Director Dave Riccuiti, Assistant Director Gabby Levy & Kaitlyn Toomla, Mini/Tot Supervisors Randi Eisenberg & Mike Cohn, Upper Camp Supervisors Katherine Flanagan, Busing & Specialties Supervisor Daniel Galimidi, Tweens Supervisor Kerry Neubert, Special Events Coordinator Park District Administration Jason Marra, Superintendent Anthony DiDomenico, Asst. Superintendent Board of Commissioners Robert A. Lincoln Jr. Frank Cilluffo Tina M. Stellato 2

About Our Day, Including Arrival and Dismissal We begin 2018 with a NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN in the Steppingstone parking lot. Upon entering the parking lot you can now follow the arrows which will be pointed to the left. At the far end of the parking lot you will turn right and come back around to the main gate/ entrance, where you will drop off or pick up your child. Please continue to stay in your car and to follow the directions of the parking lot staff. Our day begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. Drop off your child between 8:30 & 8:50 a.m. Late campers must be escorted to the camp office by a parent. Please park your car. If you need to speak to a staff member, please park your car in a marked spot. Do not leave your car unattended unless it is properly parked. Our day ENDS AT 4. Please begin lining up at 3:50 so that buses can enter the parking lot. If you are early, then please park. Pick-up takes place between 4:00 & 4:30 p.m. If you need to pick up your child earlier than 4:00 or later than 4:30 p.m., then please notify the camp office immediately. All Tots follow the same drop off and pick up schedule as the rest of Camp Parkwood. If you need to drop off your child early, then please notify the camp office: 482-0342 If someone other than a parent is picking up your child, then please send in a note and notify the camp office immediately. Minis Information parents must park and take their children to and from the classroom for arrival and dismissal. Extended day minis campers will be dismissed along with the Tots. Parents will not park for extended day minis. According to the registration contract, all campers must be fully toilet trained by the first day of camp. No exceptions! 3 Busing Procedures If your child has special requirements for bus transportation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the camp office @ 482-0342. You can also email campparkwood@gmail.com Attention Katherine (bus issue). Katherine Kat Flanagan is our Busing Supervisor for the 2018 summer. The pick-up times will be provided the week before camp begins. The Dell Bus Company will be dropping off cards with this information. Travel times will vary with traffic and/or weather conditions, but we do our best to be as consistent as possible. Our aim is to have the buses arrive at camp approximately 8:45 a.m. each morning. Please have your child ready approximately 5-10 minutes prior to your scheduled pickup time each day. Once the bus arrives, it will wait no more than 1 minute for your child. Please keep in mind that there are many other children to pick-up, so it s important to be early in order for all campers to arrive at camp on time. Once the bus leaves, it will not return that morning to pick up your child. Bus counselors will be responsible for: learning the route, taking attendance, assisting campers on and off the bus, and ensuring that campers are wearing seat belts. Bus counselors cannot escort your child to your front door for any reason. They may not leave the bus. If your child is not coming to camp on a particular day, DO NOT CALL THE CAMP OFFICE. Call Dell Bus Company at 516-883- 6711. Please leave a detailed message on the answering machine that includes the date, the camp s name, your child s name, your bus driver, and your address. If you child is coming to camp LATE, then you must bring your child directly to the camp office before your child can join his/her group. Please make sure to indicate whether or not your child will be taking the bus home that day so that we can update our afternoon bus attendance. At the end of the camp day, your child will only be dismissed if a parent, legal guardian, or person with indicated permission is present at the bus stop. Please be home and ready for arrival when the camp day officially ends at 4 p.m. If nobody's there to greet your child, then the bus will move on to the next stop and your child will have to remain on the bus for the duration of the run before being returned to the camp office. It will be your responsibility to pick up your child from the camp office. Please note that only campers registered for busing will be allowed on the bus at any time. This is in regards to play dates, friends, or family members. NO EXCEPTIONS.

We look forward to a summer filled with laughs, friends and fun! Camp Discipline Policy Purpose At times, disciplinary action may be necessary in order to ensure the safety of campers and staff. Disciplinary action will be in response to any one of the following: Camper s repeated refusal to follow the instructions of counselors/supervisors/directors. Camper s verbal abuse of a staff person or fellow camper. Camper s striking, biting, kicking, or physically abusing a staff person or fellow camper. Intentional damage or taking of private property. Repeated instigation of physical or mental aggression. Behavior that puts the camper and others in a dangerous stituation. Leaving the group without permission from counselors/supervisors/directors. Any form of behavior that a counselor/supervisor/director finds inappropriate or an unreasonable standard of camp behavior. Policy In determining a camper in need of Disciplinary Action, the following steps will be implemented: 1. Verbal warning to the camper (including explanation). 2. Verbal conversation with parent(s) via phone or by appointment to discuss the situation prior to continued attendance. 3. Dismissal from camp without refund. 4

Swim Program All campers (except for Minis) go to the Parkwood Pool Complex for swim instruction and free swim. Every individual camper s swimming ability is assessed by certified swimming instructors on his/her first visit to the pool on Mondays. Thereafter, campers receive daily swim instruction. A buddy check system is used while at the pool, and it is very important to remind your child about taking swim safety very seriously. Below is the swim level chart that will be used to assess your child. WSI Swim Levels. New campers are tested Monday mornings. Retesting occurs when deemed necessary by aquatics supervisor.
