Levin Cosmopolitan Club Inc What do our staff do on their days off? Over the last 2 months there have been lots of activities going on in our club. It was a real eye opener for me to witness how our staff go about organising all these activities. Labour weekend we had a major pool tournament which meant a lot of moving of pool tables and furniture, lighting to be organised etc. This event could not have happened without the help of our staff plus the merry band of volunteers. This event was followed up by the Melbourne Cup day. I asked Lisa what she would like me to do to help set up the room, corporate tables and the cat walk for the fashion parade. Once told what needed doing, I thought how on earth can all this be done in a very short time frame? To my surprise in walked the bar staff that were on their day off to help set up. Without their help things would not have happened in a smooth manner, and I thank them all for their help. This event was quickly followed by the car rally. Lisa and Jo have been organising and running this event for 10 years in aid of Arohanui Hospice. Once again, these ladies volunteer their time and start planning the next event straight after completion of the current fundraiser in their own time. I would hate to add up the hours the ladies put into seeking out sponsors, planning the route for the car rally, organising food for 300 plus guests just to mention a few of the tasks associated with running this fundraiser. I would like to thank everybody who helped out to make these events so successful, we do really appreciate your efforts. Bruce McCarrison PRESIDENT 1

10th Annual Club Car Rally This was held on Saturday 17th November and a great time was had by all, as you can see from the photos below. Well done Lisa, Jo and all who helped. 2

Restaurant Makeover Treat your family and friends to the new experience and ambience of the Club s Tararua Restaurant which has had a décor, menu and menu selection overhaul. Table settings have food and drink menus (wall blackboard menus are gone), ordering and collection of your choice remains unchanged at the till. Wall coverings, lighting and floor coverings have been renewed. Pop in and dine and let us know of your feedback. Birthday Meals From and including December, the manner in which the Club celebrates your birthday with us will change. Birthday vouchers are still required but will now be redeemable (to the value of up to $17.00) at the Restaurant any day of your birthday month Tuesday to Saturday. The one sitting evening system of the last Monday of each month has gone. The change means you will be able to choose the night you wish to celebrate with friends and relatives, but it must be a day in the month of your birthday. There is no carry over of vouchers to beyond the birthday month. Enjoy and please again provide feedback to us. 3

Club Front Entrance Rejuvenation New Club signage and prominent new night lighting is on its way. Social Media The text messaging service appears to be running smoothly but let us know your own opinions please. Additionally work is underway on constructing a Club Facebook site. We have appointed an appropriate person to design, construct and to manage our social media processes. More on this shortly! Kids Christmas Party The Christmas party for Club members children and grandchildren will be 11am Sunday 9 th December at the Club. Lists of names of children to attend on the main noticeboard please, as soon as possible. Christmas Cheer Christmas cheer for members will again be held as a surprise evening during December. So keep on coming down so you can imbibe and share the Christmas spirit with us all. Foodbank A friendly reminder for your early donation to our Club Foodbank appeal please, as these goods are normally picked up mid December to give to worthy recipients. 4

Tertiary and Trades Scholarships Applications for this year s Tertiary and Trades Scholarships are now open and forms can be uplifted from the Office. Children and grandchildren of financial members are eligible. Applications close 30 th November and decisions are usually made before year end. Happy Clubbing everyone and please keep safe. Seniors Adjunct Wednesday 24 th October we had a bus trip away to Petone to compete for the Johnny Walker Cup. Alas this was unsuccessful and we had to hand the cup over. Wednesday 14 th November we received a visit from Upper Hutt to compete in the usual sports. We were triumphant in the cards and pool but the bowlers came second. The end result, you guessed it, a well deserved draw. Wednesday 28 th November is the last Housie day before Christmas. Book now for the Christmas Party starting at 12 noon on 12 th December. Add your name to the list on the Seniors board to ensure a seat. Cost is $25.00 per person. Good Health Dave Morris Open Cue Sports Adjunct The Labour Weekend tournament played here last month attracted a field of 75 competitors. It was won for the second time by Brent Wells who beat Ryan King in the final. Only two of our Levin club players qualified for the Cup section, with Craig Anderson losing in the last 32 and Scott Woodley dropping out in the last 16. The best local performance in the Plate section was from Phil Fisher making the final. Raewyn Jones, who lost her Plate semi-final to the eventual winner, Gary Alderson, was also named as the best female player at the tournament. 5

Congratulations and thanks to all the local players who were game enough to have a go in this tournament and test themselves against some of the best premiere pool players in New Zealand that were entered in this event. Our club nights are Thursday nights from 7-30pm where you can compete in our local club night competition, get in a bit of practice, and have some fun. Come in a bit earlier and work your way up the new style Pyramid Challenge Ladder, put in a challenge and rise to the top. Lots of luck Dave Morris Clay Target Adjunct Any shooters or club members that tick the Clay Target box who want to be involved please contact George Harper or Blue Taylor and we will help you get started at our Horowhenua Club grounds. You will need a gun or firearms licence and other gear which we will advise you of. Cheers Blue Taylor 6
