There are no exceptions as we like for our students to learn in the best environment we can provide and give them the personal attention they deserve. Show #1: Friday, May 3 rd 6:30p Show #2: Saturday, May 4 th 10:30a Show #3: Sunday, May 5 th 1:00p As the Spring Session is a Recital Session, registration for the Spring Session must be done IN THE STUDIO. We cannot take phone or online registration. In Studio Registration is necessary for each dancer s participation in the recital. When you come in to register please bring your dancer so they can be measured for their costumes. Tickets go on sale March 16 th at 10:00am and can be purchased thru stormdancealliance.com Extra Required Costs: Recital Fee: $25.00 per dancer (trophy & performance fees) Costume: $100.00 per class, per dancer includes the cost of tights, $90.00 for classes that do not include tights. Extra Optional Costs: Forms will be made available closer to recital time. Recital Tickets (On sale March 16th at 10:00am. dancers don t need to purchase tickets), DVDs / BluRays, T-Shirt, Flowers, Pictures, Recital Program Happy Ads Room Moms: Once we get closer to recital, we will be asking for 2 moms from each class to volunteer to be a room mom and help out during the recital. POINTE INSTRUCTIONAL CLASSES Sur la pointe work is a very serious step in ballet training. Students are expected to be very dedicated and disciplined. All students enrolled in pointe must also be enrolled in ballet at least once a week at Storm Dance Alliance. Or have a note signed by an accredited teacher stating that you take ballet class at another studio. Key: S1 = Show 1, S2 = Show 2, S3 = Show 3, NR = Non Recital Class Pre-Pointe - 30 mins Ages 8-14 Ballet uniform or black leotard Class focuses on a foot strength-building program designed for pointe readiness. To decrease possible risk of injury, the following pointe class will be introduced only to the girls who show adequate physical strength, accurate technique and necessary mental awareness for such a challenging endeavor. Sat 9:00a (NR) Beginning - 30 mins Ages 11-18 Ballet uniform or black leotard Class will focus on Relevé exercises as well as focus on ballet barre exercises. Students will learn and practice pointe barre work with emphasis on individual s correct foot and body alignment as well as study of the proper techniques for the execution of steps. Class is designed to help systematically increase security and control in order to develop important for a classical dancer quality of lightness and artistry. For experienced dancers, pointe technique is an essential skill in classical training. Advanced pointe students will also learn and analyze classical pointe variations from famous ballet repertoire. This will be second annual IDA Ballet Awards Examination and we are so excited to include your ballet dancer in this wonderful program! What are the IDA Ballet Awards? International Dance Acclaim (IDA) is a performance based ballet curriculum, not an exam or competition but an adjudicated performance opportunity creating a positive experience for every child. Every student learns and performs choreographed exercises as well as a solo dance or variation. Dancers will work on these exercises and solo pieces in their class with their instructors. At the Awards Performance, the students are critiqued by the Professional Adjudicator and all students receive a medal and certificate celebrating their performance. The awards are designed to achieve technical and artistic improvement, as well as foster a love of dance! Where and When is the Awards Examination? The Awards Examination will take place May 17-18 at Thompson Jr. High, 440 Boulder Hill Pass, Oswego, IL. Times are TBD and will be shared once received. Friday, May 17 Ballet Uniform Colors: Navy, Teal, Red Saturday, May 18 Ballet Uniform Colors: Lavender, Light Blue, Pinkberry, Coral, Royal, Hunter Green What Happens at the Awards Examination? Teachers will hand out an RSVP Form in class with your dancers Exam Day and Time. This will be due in April. The week before the awards, each dancer will be given a specific time slot to attend as well as a color assignment. These will be posted on the lobby bulletin board. Please arrive 15 to 20 mins early so your dancer can warm up. Late Dancers will miss the exam. During their time slot, they will go on stage with 3 other dancers and perform their exercises as well as their solo dance. All dancers remain on the stage for the entire time. They will also get a colored wristband that will help the Adjudicator identify the dancers. You will get your wristbands the day of the performance. After their performance is finished, dancers will go to the designated waiting area to wait for the Awards ceremony. If you would like, please provide your dancer with something to do while they wait (ipad, coloring pages, small toys, etc.). Parents are welcome to take photos during the exam and awards. What do the Dancers Wear to the Awards Examination? Female Dancers will wear their Ballet Uniform ($30, to be purchased from Storm) and their white skirt (if they have one). All dancers wear PINK ballet tights with NO HOLES or RUNS! All dancers should have a nice ballet bun with no wispies or fly-aways. Use a lot of hair spray or gel to keep hair slicked back. Younger dancers are not required to wear makeup, but can wear some blush and lip gloss if you choose. Dancers 12 and up should wear light makeup (blush, mascara, lip gloss, etc.). CONTEMPORARY & LYRICAL INSTRUCTIONAL CLASSES Lyrical is a style of dance that uses the emotion and mood of the music to elicit movements. Students have a warm up focusing in core strength, flexibility, and movement of the back. The class includes progressions & center combinations. HIP HOP INSTRUCTIONAL CLASSES Hip Hop classes combine street dance with funk and jazz, similar to what you would see on TV. Students will learn the importance of isolations and dynamics to execute pop-and-lock movements. Dance Dress Code: Required dancewear and dance shoes must be worn to all classes. Failure to wear required dancewear to class could result in students being asked to sit out the class. Repeated failure to wear required dancewear could result in termination of lessons. Students are not permitted to wear jeans or shoes worn on the street or outdoors, to any dance class. For safety reasons dancers are not permitted to wear jewelry. Long hair must be tied back. During recital registration your dancer will be fitted for their class uniform. Each leotard will cost $30.00. You will be responsible for your own pink tights. White ballet skirts will also be available for purchase for $20.00 at the studio and are the only skirts that will be approved to wear to class. Each dancer will also need a white hip alignment belt in ¾ inch that can be purchased at discountdance.com. Storm Dance Alliance will be participating in the IDA Ballet Awards! For this event, each ballet will perform in a small show in May at Thompson Middle School in Oswego. *Please note this is a separate performance from recital Tap Pre-school, Kindergarten, and Beginer Tap Classes, Dance Combo: Black strappy tap shoes. POLICIES & PROCEDURES Storm Dance Alliance is a dance studio that exclusively teaches school aged children 18 and under. Registration: All students are assessed an annual membership fee of $20.00 per student, or $30.00 per family. All students registering for the Spring Recital Term will also be assessed a $25.00 recital fee. These fees are payable at registration. Payment of Fees: Tuition must be paid in full or by automatic bank account debit or automatic credit card payment. Tuition will be debited from your bank account on the 1st day of each month from January through May, or charged to your credit card the 1st day of each month. The month of January is non-refundable. Once you have started classes, tuition is nonrefundable for any reason, and may only be returned in the form of studio credit. Credit card or bank debit payments are not accepted for in-person payment on a monthly basis. Payment must be made by pre-authorized automatic monthly payment. All charges will appear on your bank statement or credit card statement as being from Storm Dance Alliance. NSF Payments: I hereby authorize the school to electronically debit my bank account for the amount of any NSF paper check or auto-debit transactions plus a $25.00 NSF fee. Withdrawal and Refunds: NO REFUNDS FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM ANY CLASS! In the case of a parent withdrawing their child after the start of the session, the unused tuition will be available as a credit as their account or we are happy to transfer the child into another available class. In the case that a class is cancelled by Storm Dance Alliance a full refund will be given. Storm Dance Alliance reserves the right to terminate lessons to any students without notice. In such a case a refund for unused lessons will be given. In the case of a parent cancelling enrollment after the start of the session, the unused tuition will be available as a credit. No refunds will be given for cancellation. Extreme Weather or Unexpected Interruption of Classes: If the school must cancel classes due to extreme weather or events beyond our control such as power outages, the missed lessons will either 1) be given a make-up pass or 2) a scheduled class make-up date will be set. Notification will be made via email, and if possible, all students will be called. Please make sure we have a current home and cell number on hand. Substitutions: The school reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher if the regularly scheduled teacher is ill or otherwise unable to teach classes. If a teacher is ill and the school cannot arrange a substitute any missed classes will be made up. Missed Private Music Lessons and Make-up Lessons: Make-up lessons for dance classes will be limited to 2 per teaching session, and must be used within that session. No refunds are given for missed lessons. Dance Class Attendance and Lateness: The school reserves the right to have students who come late to class, sit out the class. Repeated lateness may result in termination of lessons. A minimum attendance level will be required. If a student misses more than 4 classes without written notices, the school reserves the right to terminate lessons. Parent s Responsibility to be Aware of Dates and Events: It is the responsibility of the parent to be aware of all school activities, such as viewing days, recitals, extra classes, and dates the school is open or closed. Notices will be sent via email or note at the front desk. It is the parent s responsibility to regularly check email to ensure they are informed. It is the responsibility of the parents to inform the school of any address or telephone number or email change. Care of Students: The school is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students. Parents with students under the age of 5 are to remain in the school during classes. Students are not to be left at the school for excessive time before or after class. Injuries: Parents, legal guardians of minor students waive the right to any legal action for any injury sustained on school property resulting from normal dance activity or any other activity conducted by the students before, during or after class time. Photo Release: The school is hereby granted permission to take photographs of the students to use in brochures, web sites, posters, advertisements and other promotional materials the school creates.
