Forest Hill Golf Club Members Newsletter August 2015 This is Club Championship Month Well in what seems a very short time Championship month is here again and I have been reliably informed that last years Club Champions will be back to defend their championship titles. Both Gross champions came from the Junior ranks with Junior Captain Lloyd King returning a gross score of 154 for 36 holes ( 79, 75) and defending champion Ellie York coming in with a very credible score of 186 gross. The Nett Championship was decided the week before with Derek Cave returning a score of 79-17-62 nett and Helen Buckingham on 86 16 70 nett This year an Alternative Day Nett Championship will take place on Sunday 9th August for both Men and Women with the main day on Saturday 15th. The Gross Championship will be on Sunday 16 th August with the presentations for both Nett and Gross taking place immediately after the Gross event on the Sunday. So if you want to play in these prestigious events get your name down now. You never know YOU could be the Next Forest Hill Champion

Page 6 Forest Hill Golf Club Window In One! Anil Tailor had a smashing time when playing with some of his mates in a friendly game here at Forest Hill. Anil was in the bunker on the 18th he took what he thought was a gentle chip with his sand wedge but look what happened. Evidently the diners in the restaurant were a little surprised as well. And Another Hole in One Pictured is Club Vice Captain, Brian Watt, who made a successful debut with the Saturday Group on 11th July. Playing with former Captain Dave Bray and Mick Ogleby he carded 36 stableford points. Whilst there is nothing remarkable about that, Brian scored his first ever hole in one on the 17th using a 6 iron off the tee. Twice this season, in seniors matches, Brian has been nearest the pin on that hole - so this was third time lucky. Congratulations Brian QUESTION: What is Reciprocal Golf? Reciprocal golf is the opportunity to play other courses at no cost. The Club has so far negotiated this deal with the following clubs. Ruddington Grange (Nottingham), Branston (Burton upon Trent), Shirland (Ilkeston) & Forest Hills (Monmouth). There are however some rules that have been agreed between the clubs so that this arrangement is not abused. It is only for current paid up members of Forest Hill Golf Club. Members must not take non-members, i.e. friends or members of other clubs as this will invalidate the arrangement with other clubs and prevent members who are conforming to the rules from playing the courses. If you are found to have misused this offer, management reserve the right to suspend membership of our Club. You must arrange the visits through the golf shop and will be asked at the participating club to prove both who you are and that you are a current paid up member of Forest Hill Golf Club. You are expected to use the clubhouse facilities i.e. buy drinks, have a meal etc. It is hoped to arrange for further clubs to join this reciprocal arrangement and these will be publicised on the Notice Boards and in the Newsletter. Remember you are representing Forest Hill Golf Club. Further information can be obtained from Past Captain Alan Nash

Page 8 Forest Hill Golf Club The Tuesday Travellers' Once again the Tuesday travellers' chose one of our reciprocal golf courses Branston in Burton On Trent (See page 6 for details of other courses) to play for the Trophy sponsored by Alan Slaney. The game was a stableford played over 18 holes off the yellow tees and once again our winner of the gents Andy Burton who plays off an incredible handicap of 28 and is still trying to get his handicap down won with 38 points. The ladies winner was Kim Lee with 28 points. A great time was had by all those who took part and they finished the day with a meal and prize giving. Thanks go to Alan Nash for organising the day. The day started with John Spatcher and Dave Deacon manning the reception welcoming the guest and handing out the score cards with Captain Eddie Ruck acting as the official starter.
