JUSA 2017 RECREATIONAL FALL SEASON Information Packet Introduction "Since 1974, the Junior United Soccer Association (JUSA) has supported youth soccer in Anaheim, Placentia, and Yorba Linda. With nearly 4,000 players, JUSA is one of the larger youth sports organizations on the west coast. Our programs for ages 4 through 19 offer choices appropriate for every person." The last of the mandated USSF changes to soccer organizations Recreational programs will be implemented in the 2017 season. Most of the changes were implemented in the 2016 season. JUSA is implementing the final changes as mandated.

Birth Year Age Matrix Generally, all players will be placed in the appropriate age divisions based on the player s birth year. Players that request to play up one age division must be frozen by a Coach prior to team formation (draft day). Players may not play down an age division unless specific permission is granted by Cal South. Below is the age matrix for determining what age divisions to place players. Coach Selection When registration opens, previous year Coaches and all parents will be invited to complete a Coaching Application. Coach selection is dependent on player registration numbers. All Recreation level Coaches are parent volunteers. JUSA does not pay Recreation level Coaches. Coach selection is done by local JUSA Area Boards. Selected Coaches will be notified in May and provided a Player Freeze Form. Selected Coaches are required to complete a one time risk management (Livescan fingerprinting) process, become a minimum USSF level F licensed Coach (2 hour online course), and receive a Cal South Concussion Awareness certificate (30 minute online course). Please note JUSA provides multiple Livescan fingerprinting events prior to practices and games.

Team Formation Once registration ends and Coaches have been selected, teams will be formed. Team formation will be in June. The below describes how teams are formed in JUSA. U6-U7 (10 player roster max)(4v4 game format) Coaches are allowed to freeze 4 players prior to team formation (the Coach s child is Team formation will be an open style draft. Coaches will be supplied with a list of eligible players. Coaches will alternate turns and pick players to bring their roster up to a maximum of 10 players. U8 (9 player roster max)(7v7 game format) Coaches are allowed to freeze 3 players prior to team formation (the Coach s child is Team formation will be an open style draft. Coaches will be supplied with a list of eligible players. Coaches will alternate turns and pick players to bring their roster up to a maximum of 9 players. U9-U10 (9 player roster max)(7v7 game format) Coaches are allowed to freeze 3 players prior to team formation (the Coach s child is Team formation will be a blind style draft. Coaches will alternate selecting player names out of bags generally based on where players go to school or what school they live nearby. U11/U12 (Combination Division)(13-15 player roster)(9v9 game format) - NEW Coaches are allowed to freeze 5 players prior to team formation (the Coach s child is Team formation will be a blind style draft. Coaches will alternate selecting player names out of bags generally based on where players go to school or what school they live nearby. U13/U14 (Combination DIvision)(18 roster max)(11v11 game format) Coaches are allowed to freeze 5 players prior to team formation (the Coach s child is Team formation will be a blind style draft. Coaches will alternate selecting player names out of bags generally based on where players go to school or what school they live nearby.

U15/U16 (Combination DIvision)(18 roster max)(11v11 game format) No draft. Coaches are allowed to and encouraged to generate a roster of players. Wait list players will be placed on teams needing players. Rostered players MUST be registered by the time of team formation in order to be eligible to be on a team roster. Players who are registered and on a waitlist will be given priority over players not registered, but listed on a Coach s team roster. U17/U18/U19 (Combination DIvision)(18 roster max)(11v11 game format) No draft. Coaches are allowed to and encouraged to generate a roster of players. Waitlist players will be placed on teams needing players. Rostered players MUST be registered by the time of team formation in order to be eligible to be on a team roster. Players who are registered and on a waitlist will be given priority over players not registered, but listed on a Coach s team roster. Practices All practices generally begin the first week of August. Coaches get to select practices times, days and location. Practices are usually held on either a Monday and Wednesday or on a Tuesday and Thursday. U6 2 (1 hour) practices per week until games start. Once games start, U6 will go down to 1 (1 hour) practice per week. Once daylight savings goes into effect (November 5) then practices will stop for U6. U7-U12 2 (1 hour) practices per week generally all season. Once daylight savings goes into effect (November 5) and depending on field availability, practices usually go to 1 (1 hour) practice per week for U7-U8. U13-U19 2 (1 ½ hour) practices per week all season.

Game Formats U6 (2012) & U7 (2011) 4 x 4 games on small fields with small goals Two games will be played side by side at the same time No keeper Parent referees 32 minute game Size 3 ball No score keeping/posting No post season play U8 (2010) 7 x 7 game on smaller fields Players play 3 4 game minimum 50 minute game Keeper (no punting the ball) Size 3 ball Modified offsides rule begins No post season play No score reporting/posting Build Out Line: The Build Out Line (for 2010, 2009, and 2008 only) will be placed approximately 14 yards from each goal line. Once the opposing team is behind the build out line, the goalkeeper can pass, throw or roll the ball to a teammate. Punting the ball is not allowed as this would defeat the purpose of the build out line and reduces the opportunity to play out of the back in an unpressured setting. After the ball is put into play, the opposing team can then cross the build out line and play can resume as normal.

U9 (2009) and U10 (2008) 7 x 7 game Players play 3 4 game minimum 50 minute game Keeper (no punting the ball) Size 4 ball Modified offsides rule begins Build Out Line (Same rules as U8 - above) Standings, JUSA Cup, & All Stars U11 (2007) & U12 (2006) - Combined Age Divisions 9 x 9 game on larger fields Teams with up to 15 players Players play 1 2 game minimum Keepers may begin punting the ball 60 minute game Size 4 ball Standings, JUSA Cup, & All Stars U13 (2005) & U14 (2004) - Combined Age Divisions 11 x 11 game on standard size fields Teams with up to 18 players Players play 1 2 game minimum 70 minute game Size 5 ball Standings, JUSA Cup, & All Stars U15 (2003) & U16 (2002) - Combined Age Divisions 11 x 11 game on standard size fields Teams with up to 18 players Players play 1 2 game minimum 80 minute game Size 5 ball Standings, JUSA Cup, Commissioner s Cup U17(2001), U18 (2000) & U19 (1999) - Combined Age Divisions 11 x 11 game on standard size fields Teams with up to 18 players activated Players play 1 2 game minimum 90 minute game Size 5 ball Standings, JUSA Cup, Commissioner s Cup

Fees Player registration fee includes the following: Insurance Uniforms Trophies Photos Fields and league equipment Other expenses additional to the registration fee: Referees - Teams pay the referees before the start of each game (U8 and above). Team - Coaches / Team Parents will collect money to cover team parties and gifts. Volunteers: All of our Recreation Coaches are volunteers / parents. JUSA does not pay Recreational level Coaches. With over 2,300 Recreation level kids playing soccer in JUSA last year, it is easy to see that we need volunteer Coaches. There is a commitment to being a volunteer Coach...about 4 hours per week, patience, and most importantly, the ability to have a great time watching your player and the other players on your team have one of the best experiences of their lives. JUSA provides practice equipment, coaching resources, and other help to our dedicated Coaches. A team can t play without a Coach. Get involved now and sign up to Coach a team at www.jusa.org. Refunds: The last day for refunds is May 31. JUSA does not issue refunds for reasons such as getting drafted onto a team that you did not want to be on or for your player s Coach selecting a practice day / time that does not fit into your schedule. The only way to ensure that your player is on a team with requested friends and have a practice time that fits into your schedule is if you Coach. Get involved! The Recreational Coaching application can be found at the www.jusa.org website. We are always in need of Coaches. Coaching will impact a soccer player s life in more ways than you can imagine.

Without the overwhelming community support, we could not continue to make soccer such a popular sport for our youth in the area. From the beginning, JUSA's goals have been to advance and promote the physical fitness of youth in the community, to develop the skills and knowledge of the game of soccer, and to promote the game of soccer by providing organized competition in a fun a positive atmosphere.
