Chicago is in the 13th game (5-7) of a run to begin this season s second half in which the team plays 17-straight games against clubs currently under.500 this follows a stretch in which 35 of the team s previous 57 games since May 11 were against teams above.500 starting May 11, the Cubs are 21-14 in their last 35 games against above.500 teams and are 16-18 in their 34 games against sub.500 clubs. Lester s 1.53 ERA this month ranks eighth-lowest among N.L. pitchers while his.222 opponent on-base percentage is fourth-best (teammate Jake Arrieta is seventh with a.237 mark). Lester aims to go six-straight starts with at least 7.0 innings pitched for the first time since going a career-best eight-consecutive starts, July 3-August 18, 2008. The southpaw has not allowed a home run in his last 43.2 innings dating to June 20 at Minnesota that s the 10th-longest current stretch in the N.L.
