Curling by the Numbers Paul Ahlgren WCF Competitions & Rules Commission Member WCF Results Keeper (http://results.worldcurling.org) 113 World Curling Federation
Background A few questions have been raised during our work and during last year s congress Is the game becoming more defensive with the increased take-out skills? What differences can be seen between the Olympic and Page Play-off systems? If down after eight, how often does a team turn the game around and win? 114 World Curling Federation
Defensive game Is the scoring average getting lower? Are the number of blank ends increasing? 115 World Curling Federation
Play-off systems Are there differencies between the Olympic and Page Play-off systems? Olympic system (10 years): 6 winners ranked third or fourth after the round-robin Page system (11 years): 2 winners ranked third or fourth after the round-robin 2005, Ferbey 2015, Edin When the page system was introduced many thought it would benefit Canada It didn t. Canada win about the same number of championships independent of the play-off system 116 World Curling Federation
Turn-around Being down by one with the hammer after eight ends can t be that bad? Being one down: 25-30% to win Being two down: 10-15% Being three down: 1-2% Total chance: 12-14% 117 World Curling Federation
