It is the fifth consecutive World Series to sit at 2-1, and it is the 15 th time in the last 19 Series (beginning 2000) it has occurred. GAME 4 SIGNIFICANCE Of the previous 89 times that a World Series has been 2-1, the team leading the series 2-1 has gone on to win the series 58 times (65.2%), but only twice in the last five occurrences (2015 Royals, 2017 Astros). The 2013 Cardinals, 2014 Royals and 2016 Indians each had a 2-1 lead before losing the Fall Classic. Of the previous 89 times that the Fall Classic has been 2-1, the team leading 2-1 has gone on to win the following game to take a 3-1 series lead 44 times (49.4%). Of the 44 teams leading 3-1 to have won Game 4 and take a 3-1 lead, 37 (84.1%) have gone on to win the Series (including 1912 Game 5 following Game 2 tie), including 10 of the last 11 times (Los Angeles in 1988, Toronto in 1992 and 1993, Atlanta in 1995, New York Yankees in 2000, St. Louis in 2006, Philadelphia in 2008, New York in 2009, San Francisco in 2010 and Kansas City in 2015), with the 2016 Cleveland Indians being the lone exception. Prior to the Indians, the last team to take a 3-1 series lead and lose the Fall Classic was the 1985 St. Louis Cardinals. Of the 44 teams leading 2-1 that have lost Game 4 to even the Series at two games apiece, 21 (47.7%) have gone on to win the Series, including just two of the last five (2011 Cardinals, 2017 Astros). The 2003 Yankees, 2013 Cardinals and 2014 Royals each lost Game 4 after holding a 2-1 series lead and went on to lose the World GAME 3 RESULTS The Dodgers improved to 22-24 all-time in Game 3 of a Postseason Series, including 17-8 at home. The Dodgers are now 11-9 in Game 3 of the Fall Classic, including 10-3 at home. Los Angeles is now 1-2 this Postseason in Game 3. The Red Sox are now 2-1 this Postseason in Game 3. RED SOX AT 2-1 This marks the seventh time that the Red Sox have led the Fall Classic, 2-1. The Red Sox also held a 2-1 World Series lead in 1912, 1915, 1916, 1918, 1946 and 1986. Of the previous six times, the Red Sox won the World Series four times, but have lost in each of the last two situations (1946 and 1986). Additionally, the Red Sox have led, 2-1, in a best-of-seven ALCS on two occasions (2013 and 2018), and went on to win the series both times. DODGERS AT 1-2 This marks the 12 th time that the Dodgers have trailed the Fall Classic, 1-2. The Dodgers also trailed the World Series, 1-2, in 1916, 1941, 1947, 1949, 1953, 1955, 1965, 1974, 1977, 1981 and 2017. Of the previous 11 times, the Dodgers won the World Series three times (1955, 1965, 1981). Additionally, the Dodgers trailed, 1-2, in a best-of-seven NLCS on five occasions (1988, 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2018), and went on to win the series twice (1988 and 2018). SOX & DODGERS IN GAME 3 The Dodgers are 9-10 in Game 4 of their previous trips to the Fall Classic, and have won in each of their last three such games. The Dodgers are 20-19 all-time in Game 4 of a Postseason series, including 13-8 at home. The Red Sox are 16-13 all-time in Game 4 of a Postseason series, including 9-7 on the road. They are 2-0 this year in Game 4s, defeating the Yankees in Game 4 of the ALDS at Yankee Stadium and Houston in ALCS Game 4 at Minute Maid Park. ABOUT LAST NIGHT Last night's 18-inning game, which lasted seven hours and 20 minutes, was the longest World Series game in Major League history in time of game, as well as innings. The thrilling contest was also the longest game by time of game in Postseason history, while reaching the 18-inning mark matched Game 2 of the 2014 NLDS between the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals and Game 4 of the 2005 NLDS between the Houstron Astros and Atlanta Braves for the longest by innings. STRIKEOUT MARK Dodgers pitchers fanned Red Sox batters 19 times in last night's game, setting a new single-game World Series record, surpassing the St. Louis Cardinals, who struck out 17 Detroit Tigers in Game 1 of the 1968 World

ALL HANDS ON DECK The Red Sox and Dodgers used a combined 46 players last night, surpassing the previous World Seres mark of 43 set by the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros in Game 3 of the 2005 World Series, which lasted 14 innings. Each teams used 23 players last night, which tied a single-game World Series record by one team, matching the Minnesota Twins, who used 23 players in Game 3 of the 1991 Fall Classic, which went 12 innings. The teams combined to use 18 pitchers, setting a new World Series record. The previous record of 17 was set in the aforementioned White Sox-Astros Game 3 in 2005. The 18 combined pitchers also set a new Postseason record (also 17 in Game 2 of the 2014 NLDS between San Francisco and Washington). Each team used nine pitchers, tying a single-game Fall Classic mark previously done by the White Sox in Game 3 of 2005 and the Dodgers in Game 2 last year (11 innings). SOX FINALLY COOL ON THE ROAD With last night's loss, the Red Sox' streak of five consecutive victories on the road in the 2018 Postseason concluded, representing the longest Postseason road winning streak in franchise history. The Red Sox were the first Club to win five straight road contests since the 2014 Kansas City Royals. Only the the 2005 Chicago White Sox and 1996 New York Yankees won six straight road games in a single Postseason. MUNCY IN THE CLUTCH Max Muncy's walk-off home run in the 18 th inning last night was the first walk-off home run of his career. It was the fourth walk-off win in Dodgers World Series history, and the first since Kirk Gibson's home run in 1988. Cookie Lavagetto delievered a two-run double to defeat the New York Yankees in Game 4 of the 1947 World Series, while Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson logged the game-winning RBI single to beat the Yankees 1-0 in the 10 th inning in Game 6 of the 1956 World It was the 16 th walk-off homer in World Sereis history and the first first since Max's current teammate David Freese homered in the 11 th inning of Game 6 of the 2011 World Series for the Cardinals over the Rangers. With the win, the Dodgers became the first Club in World Series history to win after trailing in the 11 th inning-or-later. THE SEASONED ROOKIE Last night's start was Walker Buehler's fourth start of the 2018 Postseason, the second-most by a pitcher Walker's age-or-younger in franchise history. Fernando Valenzuela made five starts in 1981. Buehler is just the 11 th different hurler in National League history to make four Postseason starts at his age-or-younger in a single Postseason, and the first since Michael Wacha made five starts in 2013. Buehler tossed 7.0 shutout innings with seven strikeouts while not issuing a walk and permitting just two hits. Walker is just the third pitcher in World Series history to log those numbers-or-better in a Fall Classic contest, joinng Roger Clemens (2000) and Don Larsen (1956). Additionally, Buehler is the first pitcher younger than 25 years old to accomplish the feat in any Postseason game. Walker became just the second pitcher to register at least seven strikeouts while allowing two-or-fewer baserunners, joinng Larsen, who accopmlished the feat during his aforementioned 1956 perfect game. HOMERIN' JOC In the third inning of last night's game, outfielder Joc Pederson clubbed his second home run of the Postseason. The round-tripper was his fourth career homer in the World Series, belting three last year against the Astros. Game 3 marked Pederson's sixth career World Series start. Pederson is now tied for third in franchise history with Steve Yeager, Reggie Smith and Hall of Famer Roy Campanella. Hall of Famer Duke Snider holds the Club record with nine, while Gil Hodges clubbed five homers in Fall Classic play. TOUGH-LUCK LOSS Nathan Eovaldi pitched 6.0 innings of relief in Game 3, logging six strikeouts and permitting one earned run on three hits and one walk. Eovaldi became the third relief pitcher ever to post such a line in a World Series game, joinng Rick Rhoden (Game 4 of the 1977 WS) and Moe Drabowsky (Game 1of the 1966 WS). CLUTCH JBJ Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. delievered the game-tying home run in the top of the eighth inning, his third of the Postseason. Bradley is just the third center fielder in franchise history to club at least three homers in a single Postseaosn, joining Dave Henderson (1986) and Johnny Damon (2004). The round-tripper was the first game-tying home run by a Red Sox player in the eighth inning-or-later of a World Series game since Bernie Carbo in Game 6 of the 1975 Fall Classic. In addition, it was the latest Postseason game-tying or go-ahead homer by a Red Sox player since David Ortiz in Game 2 of the 2013 ALCS. Bradley joined Ortiz as the only Red Sox ever to hit multiple game-tying or go-ahead home runs in the sixth inning-or-later during the same Postseason (2013). MOVIN' ON UP Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner delieverd his second multi-hit game of the 2018 Fall Classic, and has now amassed 53 career Postseason hits, which ranks third in Dodgers Postseasn history behind only Steve Garvey (63) and Bill Russell (57). Outfielder Yasiel Puig recorded his 48 th and 49 th career Postseason hits tonight. The Cuban native ranks fourth in franchise history behind only Turner, Russell and Garvey. MADSON STAYS READY Dodgers right-handed reliever Ryan Madson made his 10 th appearance of the 2018 Postseason in Game 3, and has logged 56 career Postseason appearances. Madson surpassed Jeff Nelson, and now ranks second in Major League history in career Postseason appearances, trailing only Mariano Rivera (110). The veteran is the 40 th player in Major League history to appear on a World Series roster with three different Clubs (also: Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals). SHIFTING TO LOS ANGELES Tonight's Game 4 will mark the 29 th World Series game played in Los Angeles, and the 70 th to be played in the state of California. Only New York (194) and Missouri (75) have hosted more Fall Classic games than the state of California. The Dodgers are 67-48 (.583) all-time at home during Postseason play, including 51-33 at Dodger Stadium (.607). The Dodgers are 5-1 at home this Postseason (2-0 in the NLDS vs. Atlanta, 2-1 vs. Milwaukee in the NLCS and 1-0 vs. Boston in WS). The Red Sox are 46-49 (.484) all-time on the road during the Postseason, and are 5-1 away from Fenway Park this Postseason. Boston is 3-6 all-time at Dodger Stadium in the regular season, last losing two of three games of a three-game series in August 2016. NATIONAL LEAGUE STATE OF MIND Although the American League holds the overall lead in the World Series, 65-48, the National League has won five out of the last eight and seven of the last 12 with wins by the Cardinals in 2006, the Phillies in 2008, the Giants in 2010, the Cardinals in 2011, the Giants in 2012 and 2014, and the Cubs in 2016. Since the Yankees won three straight World Championships from 1998-2000, the NL owns a 9-8 advantage in the Fall Classic. However, over a longer span in the World Series, the AL has taken 12 of 22 since 1996; 15 of 26 starting in 1991; and 20 of 35 times beginning in 1983. RED SOX RETURN Boston is making its 13 th appearance in the World Series, third-most among American League Clubs behind New York (40) and Philadelphia/Oakland (14), and sixth-most overall, also trailing New York/San Francisco (20), St. Louis (19) and Brooklyn/ Los Angeles (19). This marks the fourth World Series appearances in 15 seasons for the Red Sox (also 2004, 2007, 2013), joining the Cardinals (4), Giants (3), Dodgers (2), Phillies (2), Rangers (2), Royals (2) and Tigers (2) as the only teams with multiple World Series berths in the last 15 years. Boston has won the World Series eight times, the third-most in history behind the Yankees (26), St. Louis (11) and Philadelphia/ Oakland (9).

DODGERS REACH CONSECUTIVE FALL CLASSICS The Los Angeles Dodgers are making their second consecutive trip to the Fall Classic, their 20 th trip in franchise history, and their 11 th since moving to Los Angeles in 1958. The Dodgers are the first NL team to win back-to-back pennants since the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008-09. This marks the fifth time in Dodgers franchise history that the Club has advanced to the World Series in consecutive years. The others include 1952-53, 1955-56, 1965-66 and 1977-78. Overall, it is the 23 rd time that an NL Club has reached the World Series in back-to-back seasons. Los Angeles is the first NL team to advance to the World Series in the season after losing in the Fall Classic since the 1991 Atlanta Braves. The Dodgers are 6-13 in their previous 19 appearances in the World Series, winning in 1955, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981 and 1988, and losing in 1916, 1920, 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1966, 1974, 1977, 1978 and 2017. In Series games, the Dodgers are 48-64 (.429) overall in 112 games. The 20 th Fall Classic appearance by the Dodgers franchise is tied with the New York/San Francisco Giants for the second-most in Major League history, trailing only the New York Yankees (40). The Dodgers and Giants are followed by the St. Louis Cardinals (19), the Philadelphia/Oakland Athletics (14), the Boston Red Sox (13) and the Detroit Tigers (12). NO REPEAT When the Red Sox eliminated the Houston Astros in the 2018 ALCS, it guaranteed that MLB would not have a repeat World Series Champion for the 18 th consecutive season, marking the longest such stretch in MLB history. In addition, it is tied for the longest such streak in the history of the four major sports (also NBA from 1969-70 season through 1986-87 season). STORIED FRANCHISES MEET Despite combining for 33 World Series appearances, this marks just the second time the Dodgers and Red Sox franchises have met in the Fall Classic. The two Clubs met in 1916, which marked the first-ever World Series appearance for the Dodgers franchise, then known as the Brooklyn Robins. Boston took the best-of-seven series four games to one. This marks just the second World Series matchup in the last nine years to feature a repeat Fall Classic matchup, joining the Red Sox-Cardinals 2013 Fall Classic. Each of the other seven World Series since 2010 have featured first-time matchups. EAST VS. WEST For the first time since 2007, when the Red Sox defeated the Rockies in four games, the Fall Classic features teams from the AL East and NL West Divisions. In fact, this marks just the fourth World Series matchup of teams from the two divisions under the current six-division format. In addition to 2007, the others included Arizona (NL) over New York (AL) in seven games in 2001, and New York (AL) over San Diego (NL) in four games in 1998. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE The team with the home field advantage (hosting four of possible seven games) has been victorious in 24 of the last 32 (75.0%) World Series beginning in 1985, however that has not been the case in each of the last three World The exceptions over the last 32 installments of the Fall Classic include 1992 (Toronto over Atlanta), 1999 (New York over Atlanta), 2003 (Florida over New York), 2006 (St. Louis over Detroit), 2008 (Philadelphia over Tampa Bay), 2015 (San Francisco over Kansas City), 2016 (Chicago over Cleveland) and 2017 (Houston over Los Angeles). ROSTER CHANGES The Boston Red Sox made one change from their ALCS roster, adding pitcher Drew Pomeranz for pitcher Brandon Workman. The Los Angeles Dodgers also made one roster change from their NLCS roster, adding pitcher Scott Alexander for pitcher Caleb Ferguson. FALL CLASSIC IN BOTH LEAGUES Boston's Joe Kelly, who was a member of the 2013 St. Louis Cardinals, will be the only player in the 2018 Fall Classic to appear on a World Series roster in both leagues, bringing the all-time total to 173 players. WORLD SERIES REGULARS Entering this year's Fall Classic, 39 players all-time have appeared in the World Series for at least three different teams. Ryan Madson of the Dodgers, who previously appeared in the Fall Classic for the 2008-09 Phillies and 2015 Royals, will add his name to the list, bringing the total to 40. ALL AROUND THE WORLD According to each club s LCS rosters, the teams will combine for 14 foreign-born players. The 14 players hail from the Dominican Republic (three Pedro Báez, Rafael Devers, Eduardo Núñez); Cuba (two Yasmani Grandal, Yasiel Puig); Puerto Rico (two Kiké Hernández, Christian Vázquez); Venezuela (two Sandy Leon, Eduardo Rodriguez); Aruba (one Xander Bogaerts) Curaçao (one Kenley Jansen); Japan (one Kenta Maeda); Mexico (one Julio Urías); and South Korea (one Hyun-Jin Ryu). Clay, who played in the Majors from 1999-2002, went on to the World Series with the Yankees from 1999-2001, and with the Angels in 2002 (though he was not on any Postseason rosters with the Angels). Cody has advanced to the Fall Classic in each of his first two big league seasons with the Dodgers.

THE MANAGERS Dave Roberts, in his third season with the Dodgers, will make his second consecutive appearance in the Fall Classic. Roberts has guided the Dodgers to a 286-200 record (.588) during his three years at the helm. Roberts is the first manager in Los Angeles history to lead the Dodgers to the Postseason in his first three years with the Club. His 286 wins through his first three full seasons as a Major League manager rank sixth all-time, trailing Frank Chance (322), Earl Weaver (318), Ralph Houk (309), Billy Southworth (308) and Davey Johnson (296). Roberts is one of seven Dodgers managers to bring the Club to a World Series, joining Wilbert Robinson, Leo Durocher, Burt Shotton, Chuck Dressen, Walter Alston and Tommy Lasorda. Of the seven managers to lead the Dodgers to a World Series, only Durocher did it on one occasion, while the other six made multiple World Series appearances. Roberts is 23-17 (.575) all-time in Postseason play, including 8-6 during the 2018 Postseason. Roberts played 10 seasons as an outfielder in the Majors for the Cleveland Indians (1999-2001), Los Angeles Dodgers (2002-04), Boston Red Sox (2004), San Diego Padres (2005-06) and San Francisco Giants (2007-08). He was a key contributor to the 2004 Red Sox team, collecting a critical stolen base which led to him scoring the tying run in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS, the first of four consecutive Red Sox victories over the New York Yankees. Alex Cora, in his first season with the Red Sox, will make his first World Series appearance. Cora compiled a 108-54 (.667) record in his first Major League season, leading the Red Sox to the best record in the Majors. His 108 wins this season were the second-most ever for an individual in his first season as an MLB manager, trailing only Ralph Houk, who went 109-53 for the 1961 Yankees. Cora is the first native of Puerto Rico to manage a Club to the World Cora is the 11 th Red Sox manager to bring the Club to a World Series, joining Jimmy Collins, Jake Stahl, Bill Carrigan, Ed Barrow, Joe Cronin, Dick Williams, Darrell Johnson, John McNamara, Terry Francona and John Farrell. Four managers have won the World Series in their first season with the Red Sox: Stahl in 1912, Barrow in 1918, Francona in 2004 and Farrell in 2013. Cora will try to become just the fifth rookie manager in MLB history to win the World The previous four include Bucky Harris (1924 Senators), Eddie Dyer (1946 Cardinals), Ralph Houk (1961 Yankees) and Bob Brenly (2001 Diamondbacks). Cora is 9-3 (.750) all-time in Postseason play thus far. Cora played 14 seasons as an infielder in the Majors for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1998-2004), Cleveland Indians (2005), Boston Red Sox (2005-2008), New York Mets (2009-10), Texas Rangers (2010) and Washington Nationals (2011). TALE OF TWO MANAGERS With Alex Cora and Dave Roberts at the helm for their respective Clubs, this World Series marks the first such matchup to feature two minority managers. Elias also notes: This is the first World Series in which both managers played for both teams. They are the 28 th and 29 th managers in World Series history to have won the Fall Classic as a player (Roberts with Boston in 2004 - was active for ALCS, but did not play in WS; Cora with Boston in 2007). The last time both managers in the World Series won a title as a player was in 2002 (Mike Scioscia of the Angels and Dusty Baker of the Giants). It marks the 94 th and 95 th occurrence of managers to guide a team that they played for to the World Series, the most recent being Roberts last season. The last time that both managers in the World Series had also played for their respective teams was in 2005 (Ozzie Guillen of the White Sox and Phil Garner of the Astros). The 650 combined regular season games managed by Roberts and Cora are the fewest between the World Series managers since 1980 (354 for Dallas Green of the Phillies and Jim Frey of the Royals). Roberts is just the third World Series manager ever to face an opponent that he won the Fall Classic with as a player. The others were Leo Durocher (vs. the Yankees four times) and Casey Stengel (vs. the Giants twice). WORLD SERIES UMPIRES Ted Barrett is the Crew Chief for the umpires in the 2018 World Series, and this is his fourth World Series (2007, 2011, 2014). Barrett is joined by Tim Timmons (first World Series), Kerwin Danley (second WS), Chad Fairchild (first WS), Jeff Nelson (fourth WS), Jim Reynolds (second WS) and Fieldin Culbreth (third WS). Culbreth, who served as the Replay Official for Games 1 and 2, will join the field crew for Game 3 and Timmons will be the Replay Official for the remainder of the series. Chris Conroy will serve as the Replay Assistant to the Replay Official for the duration of the Fall Classic. Haynes is a 12-year member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver (Colorado), which he credits for helping him through rough patches and literally saving his life. He saw peers who stopped attending the Club go in the wrong direction and is grateful for the positive alternatives the Club offered and for teaching him to believe in himself. When he noticed young African-American males in his community consistently read two or three levels below their grade levels, Haynes created a Club program called Double Trouble. Each week, he and a friend identified five children to tutor. To secure participation, they promised the kids one hour of physical activity for each hour they dedicated to reading and studying. Every one of them improved their literacy level. Haynes is a freshman at Colorado State University where he is pursuing a career in kinesiology. OCTOBER 27 th IN BASEBALL HISTORY Today in Baseball History, several notable feats: In 1989, in a game that had been scheduled for October 17 th, the Oakland Athletics defeated the San Francisco Giants to take a commanding 3-0 Series lead. In the moments leading up to the originally scheduled Game 3, a massive earthquakehit the Bay Area, and with power outages and warnings of mass destruction, then-commissioner Fay Vincent ordered that the game be called. The earthquake reached a 7.1 on the Richter scale, delaying the World Series by 10 days. In 1991, inspired by Kirby Puckett s dramatic home run the night before, MVP Jack Morris tossed 10 scoreless innings in the decisive Game 7, leading the Minnesota Twins to their second World Series title in five years in an epic 1-0 game. The game ended on an RBI single by Gene Larkin, fitting for a World Series that set the record for the most games ending without an out (four overall; also in Games 3, 4 and 6). There have been 56 game-ending plays in World Series history overall. In 1999, in a Fall Classic featuring the top two teams of the decade, the New York Yankees swept the Atlanta Braves for their second consecutive World Series crown and their third in four years. Roger Clemens earned the win in the Series-clinching 4-1 victory by the Yankees. John Smoltz started the game for the Braves, who ended the decade with five World Series appearances (also in 1991-92 and 1995-96). In 2004, when closer Keith Foulke flipped Edgar Renteria s ground ball to first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz for the final out, the Boston Red Sox completed a four-game World Series sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals, securing their first World Championship since 1918. Their 3-0 win in Game 4, started by Derek Lowe, marked the third consecutive game in which their starter went at least six innings without allowing an earned run. Manny Ramirez was named the World Series MVP after going 7-for-17 (.412) with a home run and four RBI. In 2011, St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese tied Game 6 with a two-run triple in the bottom of the ninth inning off Texas Rangers closer Neftali Feliz, and followed in the 11 th inning with the 15 th walk-off home run in World Series history, and just the fifth in Game 6-or-later.
