That event was also the last event the Zags hosted in the state of Idaho. - GU finished sixth at the event in 2011 at the Circling Raven Invitational. STARTING WITH A MANGROBANG: - Jessica Mangrobang completed a solid tournament to jumpstart her 2017-18 season, finishing in a tie for 26th after firing a final-round 75 at the Ptarmgian Ram Classic to shoot 74-73-75=222 (+6). - That was a career-low finish for Mangrobang, beating her previous best of +14 (230) set at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational last fall where she finished tied for 24th. - Mangrobang added 10 pars on Tuesday to lead the field with 40 on the week. She was +2 on the parfour holes, 10th best in the field. - She set her career low round in the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown last year, firing a two-under 70. FRAN-CHECK THIS OUT: - Freshman Francesca Santoni started her GU career well with a final round 79 to finish +20 and in 75th in the Ptarmigan Ram Classic. She shot an 80-77-79=236 (+20). - In her final round, she had birdies on number five, 12, and 14 going +3 on the back. In her round of 77 she birdied the par-four third and par-four seventh to go even on the front. THIS LOOKS FAMILIAR: - The Bulldogs are competing in three of the same four fall events they did last season. - They are returning to the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, and Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. They posted two top-five finishes in those events last year with an 11th place finish in Las Vegas. 2017-18 Season and Career Highs: Player Low Round Low Tournament Diana Araneta Season 76 (+4); 9/17/17... 243 (+27); 9/17-19/17; 80th Career 74 (+2); 3/27/17... 233 (+17); 3/27-29/17; T-47th Jena Gao SOCIAL MEDIA Season 79 (+7); 9/19/17...N/A Career 71 (-1); 10/26/15... 222 (+6); 10/12-13/15; T-6th Jessica Mangrobang Season 73 (+1); 9/18/17... 222 (+6); 9/17-19/17; T-26th Career 70 (-2); 10/25/16... 222 (+6); 9/17-19/17; T-26th Nina Novilla Season 84 (+12); 9/17/17... 259 (+43); 9/17-19/17; 83rd Career 71 (-1); 2/27/17...223 (+7); 2/27-28/17 Francesca Santoni Season 77 (+5); 9/18/17... 236 (+20); 9/17-19/17; 75th Career Same... BRAD RICKEL BIO Brad Rickel entered his 13th year at the helm of the Gonzaga women s golf program in 2017-18. Under Rickel, the Bulldogs have emerged as a power in the West Coast Conference and regular in the NCAA Tournament, earning team bids to an NCAA Regional in three of the past five years and seeing a Bulldog compete in the NCAA Championships for the first time ever last season. The women s golf program is the first in Gonzaga history to earn three consecutive at-large bids to NCAA competition, and the Zags have finished second in the West Coast Conference in four of the previous seven seasons. Since Rickel re-joined Gonzaga before the 2007-08 season, the Bulldogs have seen unprecedented success. They ve won eight team tournament titles, four of which came during the 2012-13 season for a new school best. They ve lowered the team s stroke average in each of the last seven seasons to an all-time low in 2015-16, and their four top-2 and five top-3 finishes at the WCC Championships in the last seven years mark the best stretch the Zags have seen in conference action. Also under Rickel, three Bulldogs have won the conference s individual title (Victoria Fallgren, 2012; Alice Kim, 2014; Ciera Min; 2016), the first individual WCC titles for Gonzaga golf, men s or women s. Also a first in Gonzaga golf, Rickel coached Bianca Pagdanganan to the NCAA Championships during the 2015-16 season. The freshman earned an individual berth to the NCAA s Bryan Regional, where Rickel helped her finish in a tie for eighth and in position to compete for a national title. She returned in 2016-17, earning a bid after finishing fourth at the Albuquerque, N.M. Regional. She set a school record at the NCAA Championships in Sugar Grove, Ill., finishing 66th. She highlighted the season by tying the NCAA single-round record with a 61 in her March tournament win at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Classic, where she also set a new school 36-hole record a 14-under. Continuing with the individual accomplishments under Rickel, 19 Zags have earned All-WCC honors since 2009, accounting for over 80% of the program s total All-Conference honorees. Additionally, a Bulldog has claimed medalist honors in 18 events since the 2007-08 season. In 2013, Rickel helped Raychelle Santos earn WCC Freshman of the Year honors, and Pagdanganan earned a share of the same award in 2016. He s been recognized as the WCC s top coach four times: each year from 2011 to 2014. Rickel has re-written the Gonzaga record books during his time in Spokane. The school s 13 lowest season individual scoring averages have come while he s been the head coach, as have the 24 best one-round, two-round, and three-round individual scores. The team scoring records have similarly been changed; the 22 lowest individual team rounds have come from a Rickel-led squad, as did the lowest 21 two- and three-round scores. Others are starting to take notice of the Gonzaga women s golf s rise to NCAA contention. During the 2013-14, the Zags earned Top 50 spots in both the GolfWeek and Golfstat polls before finishing the season ranked 49th by GolfWeek. In September 2014, Gonzaga saw its highest-ever ranking when GolfWeek tabbed them as No. 21 after the second tournament of the season. Prior to his second stint at Gonzaga, Rickel built the Idaho golf programs into a Big West contender with the men winning the conference title in 2000 and the women the following year. He took three teams to NCAA Regionals and saw either a team or individual qualify for NCAA Regional action in seven of his eight years in Moscow. He also had 28 players earn First- or Second-Team All-Big West honors and five receive Academic All-American while coaching Idaho. During the 1998-99 season, Rickel began his collegiate coaching career at Gonzaga. He headed both the men s and women s programs during his first stint at GU. Rickel has also coached at the pro level, serving as the instructor for Spokane-born Ryan Benzel at the PGA Championship from 2007-10. He holds Class A PGA Professional status and has worked at both Manito Golf and Country Club and the Creek at Qualchan in Spokane. His wife, Karen, is an associate professor and department chair in the Department of Sport and Physical Education at Gonzaga. They are the parents of Darby (2002) and Madison (2005). VICTORIA FALLGREN BIO Victoria Fallgren is entering her fifth year as assistant coach at Gonzaga, her alma mater. She assists with day-to-day coaching and operations of the program while coordinating the team s recruiting efforts. Between her four years as a player and four as an assistant coach, Fallgren has been around for the program s rise into a perennial postseason contender. During her senior year, she led the Bulldogs to their first NCAA Tournament appearance, and she s helped them return twice while a staff member. In 2016, she saw another milestone for the program as Fallgren coached Bianca Pagdanganan in the NCAA Championships; Pagdanganan is the first Gonzaga golfer -- male or female -- to reach the national tournament. She returned in 2016-17 with Fallgren by her side at the NCAA Championships in Sugar Grove, Ill., where she set a school record finishing 66th. Also under her tutelage, the Zags improved on the team s scoring average during her first three seasons as a coach, and in September 2014, they were ranked #21 in the nation by GolfWeek, the program s highest-ever ranking. Prior to coaching, Fallgren was one of the top golfers in Gonzaga history. She became the first Bulldog to win the West Coast Conference title in 2012 and led the Zags to four team tournament wins as a senior in 2012-13. Individually, the Lakewood, Calif., native tallied two tournament wins, 10 top-5 finishes, and 18 top-10s throughout her four years. Also, she s tied with the third-lowest round in Gonzaga history, a 67 in her final round at the Bulldog and Eagle Invitational in 2009. That tournament was Fallgren s first collegiate competition, and she won the tournament by four strokes. The three-time All-WCC honoree also saw success outside of collegiate golf, qualifying for the US Women s Amateur Public Links Championship three times and the US Amateur twice. She advanced to match play in the 2010 and 2012 Public Links Championships. She won the Washington State Mid-Am in the summer of 2017. Fallgren received her Master s degree in sport and athletic administration from Gonzaga in 2015 and a Bachelor s degree in classical civilizations in 2013. 3 GOZAGS.COM #UNITEDWEZAG

She was +2 on the par-four holes, 10th best in the field. We are very proud of how Jessica played this week, Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said. She played hard each day and had a great attitude. Francesca had some good moments for her first collegiate tournament. In the end, our young team will learn hard lessons this year as they mature. Next week we will build on the lessons learned this week.
