Dear Parents and Carers To all our mothers and all those who are doing the job of mothers, have a great Mother s day this Sunday. Thank you to all who helped out on the Mother s Day stall and bought raffle tickets. This week I have a quick trip to Sydney to meet with the Australian Curriculum and Reporting Authority. I usually have a phone meeting once a term with this group, but this time they decided to have a face to face meeting which is not ideal for me. At the meeting we are discussing the move to online NAPLAN testing, the latest curriculum developments, the Gonski Report and reporting on Growth. Swimming Carnival: This Friday we have our exciting swimming carnival. The school will be closed as you are to take your children directly to Casuarina Swimming Pool. We moved our lessons this year to make sure that every child had participated in lessons before the carnival. We expect to see all students at the carnival on Friday. Please remember that the pool lost their shade cloths during Cyclone Marcus, so please, lots of sunscreen on the day. Staffing News: We welcome Syeda Shamsunnaher, who will be the new Assistant Director for ELC and OSHC. Syeda has experience in Child Care and Early Learning Centres in Darwin and Sydney. We also welcome Bindi Donohue. Bindi will be replacing Shannyce Lilydale in the role of School Officer for Indigenous Students until the end of the year. We welcome both to our community. Syeda and Bindi hope to be starting as soon as possible, they are negotiating with their current employers about a starting date with us. Students will be assessed in numeracy, writing, reading and language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation). As we continue to prepare students for this style of testing, it is important that any discussions around it are positive. Shade Structures Wanted We are on the lookout for extra shade structures to put up for the day. If you are able to provide a shade structure for the carnival, it would be greatly appreciated by the children, spectators and the team officials. Please see the office if you can assist with this request. Out of Hours School Care (OHSC) After School Care will be operational for the afternoon and for this reason we need to know how many students (that usually use OHSC on Friday afternoons) will be returning to school. A note has gone home for these parents/carers to inform class teachers if their child is returning to OHSC after the carnival and giving permission to travel on the bus. Student Transportation Transportation to the Casuarina Swimming Pool is the responsibility of the parents/carers. Please make sure your permission note has been returned to your child/ren s class teacher so we are aware of how many children require a lift back to school.
