After nearly 2 years of planning, the newly designed main area of the clubhouse will start to take shape. Your overwhelming support of this project is appreciated and we look forward to partnering with J. Davis, the General Contractor, to create new spaces that are admired by all who use them. We really think the redesigned clubhouse will be spectacular! The Annual Membership Meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16th in the Lower Level of the Activity Center. We will present the results of the Board election and the results of the proposed Bylaw change. In addition, there will be a brief summary of the year-to-date membership sales and club financial results. At the conclusion of the Annual Meeting, there will be a brief Appreciation Presentation in the Clubhouse to recognize our 2018 volunteers and outgoing Board Members from both Cullasaja Club and the HOA. We hope you will be able to attend both the meeting and the appreciation event that follows. If you are unable to attend, please know you can always view the Club s current monthly operating statements, cash position, and all Board meeting minutes by stopping in to visit with Tim Lamphier, our CFO. Later this month, you will receive an email with a request to complete the 2018 Cullasaja Club Member Satisfaction Survey. Your input is very valuable to us as we look at ways to improve the Club in the future. We encourage both household spouses to complete the survey that will take only a few minutes to finish. Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback on how we performed as a Club this season and what we can do better. Reflecting on this season, I continue to be very proud of our amazing team here at Cullasaja. It was a difficult season with several departments enduring staffing shortages. In fact, this was the most challenging hiring environment I have seen in my 20+ years of managing clubs. The highly-dedicated department leaders did more with less, and worked tirelessly to ensure you had a remarkable and memorable season. For that, I am eternally grateful to them and our seasonal employees. In my opinion, this was the best group of interns we have had at Cullasaja and it was an honor to be able to work alongside them. We look forward to continuing to build on our shared success next season with a new hiring model that will hopefully eliminate some of the labor issues we endured this season. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you at the Club over the coming months. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to enhance your experience. Best Regards, Chris Conner General Manager / COO 2

FROM THE GREEN by Tom Nelson 4

Every season is different. As of late August this year, we have received over 90 of rain, that s our annual average in only 9 months!! Two years ago we were begging for rain as many areas around Western North Carolina were on fire due to prolonged drought. Water management is one of, if not the most critical aspect of managing a golf course. Too much without proper drainage leads to soggy, unplayable conditions and too little, without proper irrigation, leads to burnt out areas that are unsightly and require time and materials to keep alive or repair. Over the last twenty years, the Cullasaja membership has made significant investments in both drainage and irrigation on the course. Our drainage system, coupled with fairway topdressing, has paid off and it really showed this season. Years ago, had we received this much rain, golf carts would have been restricted to the paths for a better part of the season. Now, we are seldom restricted, and if we do have cart restrictions, it is generally only in certain limited areas. While we have made great strides, there is more work to be done. The Green Committee is currently evaluating our most critical areas to focus our attention on in the upcoming offseason and those that follow. Most people don t think about irrigation during a wet season like we have experienced this year, however, we still need it and use it frequently, albeit in localized areas. Many of the turf care products we apply have to be watered into the soil. With the system we have, we can pinpoint the application of water to specific areas, keeping any additional water out of wet areas. Even with all of the rain, we still have shallow or steep areas or areas of rock just beneath the surface all which need additional water within just a few days following a rain event. We have the capability to apply specifically where and only as much is needed to keep the turf healthy. We hope that you enjoyed your golfing experience throughout this challenging 2018 season. We look forward to making further improvements to the course during the upcoming off-season and hope that you will continue to enjoy your amazing golf course. Tom Nelson 5

LABOR DAY WEEKEND AT THE TENNIS CENTER For Labor Day Weekend, our tennis mixer is the Blind Draw Round Robin and Social Mixer. For this fun filled mixed event you play 4 games in each round. This event can be played several ways including being able to play with whoever you choose, however, at the end of the round robin, I will draw names out of a hat to determine who your partner really was during play. This can be quite rewarding or quite cruel, don t you think? ANOTHER OPTION: at the end of regulation play, I will bring out a deck of cards numbering Ace, 2 or 3 and at the end of the last round the winner will draw a card from the deck. Whatever number is drawn is subtracted from their score. The losing team does the same, but whatever number they draw, that number is added to their score. All you need to do is email Terry or call the Tennis Pro Shop to sign up for that day. No partner is necessary for this event, so come on out and join the fun during Labor Day. All members, their family members as well as their guests are more than welcome to play. GREAT MIXED DOUBLES EVENTS SCHEDULED FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER: If you like Mixed Doubles then you will love the tennis schedule for the month of September. MIXED DOUBLES INVITATIONAL Saturday, September 8th at 10:00 a.m. For the Mixed Doubles Invitational, you may play with a guest or a fellow member. This event is played with set teams, so if you need a partner, please let me know ASAP and I will be more than happy to find someone for you. MIXED DOUBLES MEMBER/GUEST TOURNAMENT Saturday, September 22nd at 10:00 a.m. This event will be played with set teams so you will need to find a partner. If you need assistance finding a partner please let me know ASAP and I will be more than happy to find someone for you. TENNIS FINALE ROUND ROBIN & LUNCHEON Saturday, October 6th at 10:00 a.m. Make plans now to join us for the last major tennis mixer of our 2018 tennis season. Even though we offer tennis through the month of November, this will be our last major mixer of the 2018 tennis season. Everyone will participate in round robin play beginning at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following the tennis, we will all gather for lunch. I encourage all non playing spouses to join us for lunch that day. 14

by Steve Sheridan HOT OFF THE PLATE I would like to thank everyone for their participation in all things Food & Beverage related. We have had a lot of fun planning and executing events this year and have many more planned before the season is up. As the weather begins to cool and leaves begin to settle on the ground, you can look forward to some of your favorite events for the autumn season. September holds a bounty of activities and we welcome everyone to enjoy our last wine dinner on the 6th, our final Mo-Town themed Cabaret on the 14th and the poolside Oyster Roast on the 20th. The weather will be perfect for hanging by the fire pit after dinner and enjoying a lovely glass of dessert wine. October is delivering some of our final events of the season like our End of Season Fall Festival on the 12th, and finishing the weekend with Chef Marie s famous soup market on the 14th, and finishing the season with a spooky Halloween themed Twilight Golf and Halloween Party on the 31st. Costumes are encouraged. As we look forward to next season, we are excited about what the new clubhouse renovation will bring us. We will have many new spaces and are currently working on ideas and events to complement the new additions. The House and Social Committee is dedicated to bringing new ways of creating memories here in the mountains. The third space addition will be utilized to make the club feel like your home away from home while the new bar area will be the hub of activity as Rocky prepares new drinks and fun cocktails. Looking back on the season, I would like to compliment the staff for their dedication and hard work and encourage anyone who feels a connection with our international interns to pursue a conversation and let them know how much we appreciate them. I hope that everyone has had a wonderful experience at the club this season and look forward to making memories in the mountains for years to come. 15
