Men's Pennants 2019 BRUSH PARK BOWLING CLUB NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2018 The start date for men's Pennants 2019 has been confirmed as Saturday 9th March so your selectors have had an initial meeting to plan our campaign. Your Pennant selectors are unchanged this year and are:- David Kensett-Smith Glen McDonald Peter Murphy Les Robinson Trevor Siviour Geoff Young All of us are keen to go one better than last year when we had a chance of reaching the play offs in two grades but just fell short in the final round. Please approach any of the selectors if you have any thoughts on how we can go one better on 2019. Two lists are now on the board, one for players who can commit to 8 of 10 rounds and on for those whose personal plans do not permit this. We hope this will encourage even more players to put their names forward for selection and enjoy the competition and fellowship against other clubs. Please put your names on either list as soon as possible so your selectors can decide how many pennant teams we can field in 2019. It would be good to field 3 again but it depends entirely on how many names are on the list. You may recall that last year we did a survey of all players about their playing preferences and aspirations. We received a lot of very useful information. We will not be repeating a full survey this year but if you would like to update your preferences (or just check what you told us) please ask Peter Murphy (brush.park.selectors@gmail.com). If you did not complete a sheet last year and would like to do so just let us know. Our practice sessions last year where well attended and worthwhile. This year Alan Beloe is introducing Scroungers on a Friday afternoon and we have decided to full support his initiative so there will be no formal scheduled practice but if you wish to complete the practice drills at any time you can find them in a blue folder in the Bowls Office. Glen McDonald is lining up pre-season practice games for us. So, planning is well underway for Pennants 2019. Please put your names down. Go Brushie Regards, Peter Murphy For the Brush Park Selectors

Regards, Peter Murphy. Newsletter Editor's Report Melbourne Cup Day It was another great Melbourne Cup day at our club, our lady bowlers again did a fantastic job in organisation, decoration and running the many sweeps etc to make it a most enjoyable day for all those who attended, whether they won money or not. The start of the ladies hat parade was delayed by the appearance of an unregistered, out of uniform, entry who was thankfully scratched by the stewards before the parade began.
Mr John Alexander Federal Member for Bennelong Visits Brush Park on 14 Nov. At the invitation of the Club, John Alexander, the Federal member for Bennelong, visited our club in the morning of 14 November. The prime purpose of his visit was to thank John for the grants of $12,500 that both Brush Park and Denistone Clubs had received for the installation of solar power systems. Geoff Young (who did the work to obtain the grants) thanked John for the contributions to the clubs in reducing the club s running costs which meant we had funds which could be used for other purposes. The Ladies club setup their normal superb morning tea table which we all enjoyed. TWT were represented at the event and we expect an article to appear in their publication in the next week or so. In addition, Geoff Young s son-in-law, Brent, attended and took some interesting aspects via his drone. Some of his pictures and John Arkins' photos are shown below. Thanks to everyone who assisted to make this an enjoyable event.
Presentation Night A great night for all who who attended, whether you were a prize recipient or not. There was a lot of hard work in organising this night, thank you John Roddy, Richard Summerhayes and to the ladies for the setting up and decorations. Also, thank you to the staff of our Golden Fusion restaurant who kept up a constant supply of great food during the night. Our now very capable MC Barry Goldsworthy started the night with his referee's whistle and kept us all amused and entertained with his special stories and wit. No one was sent off or sent to the sin bin during the night. Here are some of the photos of the happy prize winners, they are not in any order and I apologise if I have missed anyone.
100 Club Turn Around Triples Event 10th November Another great day to be playing bowls for our club. This time the thanks goes to John Leek and his band of helpers and assistants for making this possible. John kept the 100 Club turning over during the year then organised the day and the selection of the many good quality prizes. Once again Geoff Young devised and operated the scoring system during the day. ( See results on the next page) Before the event John promised that everyone would win a prize and he was spot on. Our team managed to run last but we still managed to pick up a great prize.
