STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLES Equestrian Canada, the national equestrian federation of Canada, supports adherence to humane treatment of horses in all competitions under its jurisdiction. Equestrian Canada is committed to: Upholding the welfare of horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities; Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect, and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment; Ensuring that owners, trainers and exhibitors or their agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose; Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standard of nutrition, health, comfort, sanitation, and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure; Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare; Increasing education in training and horsemanship practices; Requiring owners, trainer, and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization s rules, and to work within industry regulation in all equestrian competitions; Reviewing, revising, and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of horses. The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive nor inhumane. Saskatoon Dressage Club-Give it a Go General Show Rules and Regulations Apply to the BRONZE show and the GOLD show 1. Horses are required to have a negative Coggins certificate form (within 6 months of competition date) with your entry forms. This must be presented to the office before the horse may unload at the facility. We have confirmed with the owner of Willow Ridge Stables that all horses on property will have their Coggins test and that all horses onto the property for events before our show will also have this requirement. This would designate Willow Ridge Stables as a Saskatchewan Horse Federation A Facility. Please go to the following website for information from SHFon how designations are applied. https://www.saskhorse.ca/download/healthwelfare/biosecurity/eia/eia- Phase-2-Announcement.pdf The Saskatoon Dressage Club can only confirm the status of the facility leading up to our show. After this show we recommend that riders/owners confirm with any facility what that facility s designation/status is. We hope that riders will respect this A designation leading up to the show and limit their Coggins tested horse to other A designation facilities to help continue to limit the risk of transmittal of EIA. 2. No phone entries will be accepted. Entries must be postmarked by June 23 rd 2017 and sent to the show secretary. Scanned Email entries may be sent to sdcshowemail@gmail.com it is your prerogative to check with the secretary that they have been received. 3. Horses must be stabled for the day of the competition. It is prohibited to tie a horse to a trailer. All competitors are required to work one volunteer shift/ entry during the show. Volunteer Shifts will be worked around your ride schedule. Shows take volunteers to run, and a lack of volunteers has been an issue in past years, this will help reduce the work through many hands. No shift will last longer than 2 hours, and may be worked by any individual appointed by the rider. If you feel you are unable to volunteer you may pay a fee of $50/entry to void this requirement 9. Numbers are required on horses anytime outside of the stall during the show. The show will not be providing numbers, riders must provide their own. The show is offering show numbers at a reduced purchase rate of $5.00 which the rider may then keep. 10. Hors Concours allowed (horse still may only be ridden in 4 tests/day) 11.
