Seasonal Rainfall Scenario (01 June to 28 September, 2016) For the country as a whole, cumulative rainfall during this year s monsoon has so far upto 28 September been 3% below LPA. Details of the rainfall distribution over the four broad homogeneous regions of India are given below: Regions Actual Normal % Departure from LPA Country as a whole 853.9 879.6-3% Northwest India 581.9 611.9-5% Central India 1024.2 968.5 6% South Peninsula 654.2 703.9-7% East & northeast India 1265.4 1424.2-11% Cumulative seasonal rainfall is given in Annexure III. Current synoptic conditions as on 29 September, 2016 An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over south Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood in lower levels. A trough runs from East Uttar Pradesh to northeast Madhya Pradesh at 5.8 km above mean sea level. Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Gulf of Siam & neighbourhood between 3.1 & 5.8 km above mean sea level. An east-west shear zone runs roughly along latitude north of 18.0 N at 5.8 km above mean sea level. Large scale features as on 29 September, 2016 Sea surface temperatures continue to be near normal over Eastern & Central equatorial Pacific Ocean, thus indicating ENSO-Neutral conditions. Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) is over Maritime Continent, favourable for cyclogenises over central Bay of Bengal. Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is continued to be in negative phase.
