Congratulations on your purchase of HAIBIKE SDURO Hard Four RX / Hard Four Life with Yamaha drive! We would like to thank you for purchasing our product and are hoping you and your child are going to enjoy this HAIBIKE model. The type of bicycle you have purchased is called Pedelec (Pedal Electric Cycles) or also officially known as EPAC (Electrically Power Assisted Cycles). There are bicycles in which the auxiliary motor only turns on when the driver steps on the pedals. The motor turns off as soon as you quit pedaling. In order to drive a Pedelec, you do not need a driver s license due to the support automatically shutting itself off through the motor at a speed of 25km/h. Operating license or insurance plate are not required either. Pedelecs are bicycles before the law StVZO compliant equipment provided. Cycle paths may or rather be unrestrictedly used by you. Wearing a helmet is recommended but not mandatory. Display Yamaha multifunction display with operating element SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Special features of HAIBIKE SDURO HardFour RX / HardFour Life These Pedelec-models are designed for a specific group of people. The following deviating of the Standard-Yamaha- Drive were established: - When activating the system, the motor support is in Off-Mode - The support speed was limited to 20km/h - The torque is limited to max. 60 Nm - The system does not have a pushing assist The permissible total weight (driver, luggage (e. g. backpack) and bicycle together has been limited to 80kg. The manufacturer Winora-Staiger GmbH has set a minimum driving age of 8 years for these models. This serves for your child s safety, this is a motorized bicycle, which requires certain driving skills of your child during the ride. The further requirement is your child s ability of knowing how to ride a bicycle and already owns an ordinary bike. Due to lack of control of the bicycle, it can lead to hazardous situations and up to accidents with injuries. Do not ever leave your child unattended in the use and handling of this electric bike. Otherwise, this may result in personal injury. Children and teenagers should always wear appropriate protective clothing during each ride. The minimum is a verified bike helmet and sturdy foot wear. We also recommend that for adolescents and adults. Otherwise, this can lead to e. g. higher degree of injury. To the above-mentioned safety instructions you will find this warning label on the top tube of each HAIBIKE SDURO Hard Four RX and Hard Four Life model. The bicycles described herein are not factory equipped for use on public roads. Therefore, the bicycle must not be driven there, if the necessary items were not supplemented for road safety. Contact your Haibike-retailer. Driving with a none roadworthy bike constitutes administrative offence and can e. g.: therefore lead to accidents and serious injuries. This EPAC (Pedelec) models are classified as a bicycle. Thus children in accordance to their age must behave in conformity with the requirements of each country. Do not use the sidewalk, only the bike path is to be used. Infringement may lead to dangerous situations where serious injuries cannot be excluded. Following excerpt from the StVO 2 applies for Germany: (5) Children until completion of 8th year must, older children up to 10 years of age are allowed to use sidewalks with bicycles. Pedestrians are to be taken into special consideration. When crossing a road, children must get off their bicycles. Repair and cleaning work may not be generally performed by children or by untrained personnel. Contact hereto your Haibike-retailer and read the descriptions on this subject in the other supplied operating instructions. Contravention may result in injury. 10
Before the first ride Before going on your first ride, following points should be considered: - Let your retailer, from whom you have purchased the bicycle, make the bike ready to use. - Please have your retailer explain to you and your child all the important functions of the bicycle components and the Pedelec-System. Also on how to give instructions for safe operation and use. This should be done on the purchased bike and completed with a test ride. - The main function in this case, inter alia, the correct sitting position for safe control of the bike, function of brakes, function of shifting system, the activation of the Pedelec-System, turning on and selecting levels of support and e. g. explanation of further features of the display. - You should practice dealing with such a Pedelec before your first ride in public areas. Suitable hereto are from traffic averted, inter alia, low traffic areas, such as untraveled large parking lots and private properties. - Following circumstances must especially be noted due to the high torque of the drive system: o When starting up, the engine performance in high levels of support can start abruptly. Take into account, that your child avoids direct force applied on the pedals, if he or she is not securely seated on the bike or repels to start with only one leg. o Make sure your child operates the EPAC brakes while getting up, for his or her own safety, to prevent an accidental riding off. For first ride / during each ride - If your child performs the test ride or practices using the bicycle or first ride, the child should have been there receiving instructions from the retailer or receive the same instruction of the same amount from an adult before the first ride. - It is especially to inform about the function of the Pedelec-System and its expected riding behavior. - Children are only allowed to use such Pedelec under adult supervision. 11
