THE CHALLENGE Disc brakes are becoming increasingly popular owing to superior modulation and allweather performance, but better braking isn t enough for the S3 Disc. After all, it is Cervélo s policy to only introduce a new bike when significant gains in design and technology have been achieved. For this reason, our newest disc model had to equal or surpass the S3 in all five of the performance criteria encompassed by our Engineering Fundamentals: Weight, stiffness, ride quality, usability and most importantly, aerodynamics.

19 GRAM AERO ADVANTAGE OF THE S3 DISC AERODYNAMICS The S3 Disc is an aero speed machine first and foremost, so superior aerodynamics topped our to-do list. The all-new S3 Disc fork features a re-engineered leg airfoil that s 19g (~2 watts) faster than an equivalent S3 fork. The disc braking system also allowed our engineers to raise the fork crotch to reduce the low pressure zone behind the crown, while widening the stance of the legs to better blend with the calipermounting area and fine-tune interactions with the front wheel.

STIFFNESS As with our other disc platforms, 12mm thru-axle technology boosts stiffness in both the back-end and in the fork, leading to better handling in corners and an 8 per cent increase in headtube stiffness. We ve also boosted bottom-bracket stiffness by 9 per cent to improve overall handling and power transfer to the pedals. 8% 9% EXTRA HEADTUBE STIFFNESS EXTRA BB STIFFNESS

USABILITY A redesigned cable routing system takes the signature side-entry cable routing system of the S3 and incorporates a new style of left-side entry to accommodate the hydraulic hose while providing a tidy access point for wired electronic shifting systems. Just one more detail to which Cervélo has paid careful attention. We also imported the internal battery mounting feature from the Cervélo S5 in order to better conceal the Shimano Di2 battery inside the downtube, with access through the BB cable guide mounting hole.

RIDE QUALITY Re-engineered seatstays and chainstays, inspired by the Cervélo R3 Disc, have been optimized to work in tandem with the disc brakes to provide the best possible control and handling. New rear drop-outs, meanwhile, use thru-axles to create a stable and stiff wheel-to-frame junction with better brake alignment.

40 GRAM WEIGHT SAVINGS OF THE S3 DISC FRAME WEIGHT By making the most of lightweight frame and fork design rooted in our Project California research facility, the S3 Disc frame is 40 grams lighter than than the S3 frame.
