GETTING THERE The VeloPark s postcode doesn t always appear as a valid postcode for many sat-navs. Please see map of the route by road to the venue. Car Parking is available at the however, parking is limited, so if you can, please arrive by public transport. More information on how to get to the VeloPark are outlined at the Lee Valley website: http://www.visitleevalley.org.uk/en/content/cms/london2012/velo-park/#plan-your-visit This event is run under British Triathlon rules. You can download a copy of the rules HERE There is car parking at the venue. The car parking is free for the first 4 hours for those using the venue. After 4 hours charges come in. You will need to input your car registration number in the terminal / pad close to the event registration desk. PLEASE DON T FORGET TO DO THIS AS YOU LL BE ISSUED A TICKET VIA POST. THERE ARE CAMERAS IN OPERATION AS YOU ENTER AND EXIT THE CAR PARK. If you think you ll be at the venue for over 4 hours then please park at either Westfield Shopping Centre or Stratford International Car Park. Although expensive it will be cheaper than the fine for going over 4 hours at the VeloPark
TIME: 10:00noon-13:00pm VENUE: VeloPark, Abercrombie Road, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, E20 3AB. NOTE: We will be checking Triathlon England membership cards at registration, please bring yours with you or you will be charged the day license fee. Also you will need a road worthy bike and cycling helmet to race. Please check your bike is fit for purpose before setting off to the event. RACE DISTANCES YOUTH (15-16 years) 1.6km run / 9.6km bike / 1.6km run. TRISTAR-3 (13-14 years) 1.6km run / 8km bike / 600m run. TRISTAR-2 (11-12 years) 1.2km run / 4.8km bike / 600m run. TRISTAR-1 (9-10 years) 600m run / 3.2km bike/ 600m run NOTE: Age is how old you are on 31 st December 2018 REGISTRATION Registration will open from 9:15 am. Collect your chips and race numbers. You will be issued with one bib number, place this on the front of your top (number belts are encouraged, there will be a limited amount of safety pins so please bring your own if you don t have a number belt) and a bike number (stick to bike frame) and helmet number (put on front of helmet). You will not be allowed into transition without your race numbers displayed. Your handle bar ends will be checked for plugs. Please ensure your handle bars ends are sealed. The marshals on transition will also check your helmet is safe. WAVE START TIMES (Approximate times, these could change so please be ready in good time) Boys and girls will be in the same waves. YOUTHS: 9:50am TRISTAR 3: 10:45am TRISTAR 2: 11:30am TRISTAR 1: 12:10pm TRANSITION SET-UP Each wave will set-up just before their event starts. You will be called to set-up by the Race Director. The transition area will be directly in front of the venue. There will be no racking and bikes will be placed on the floor in the transition area. All competitors will set up using the fence on the right of the finishing straight. Please rest your bikes on as opposed to racking you may have seen at other events. NOTE: Only participants will be allowed in the transition area, you and your bike will need to have your race numbers attached. Marshals will be on hand to assist participants will their set-up. RACE BRIEFING Each wave will have a briefing just before their race starts. This is compulsory and will outline any last minute changes in the format or safety issues and also be your chance to ask any questions.
YOUTHS : TRISTAR 3 : 1.6km / 8.0.km / 600m
TRANSITION SET-UP Carefully note above the number of laps applicable to your event. Please note - IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COUNT YOUR LAPS! RUN: Please keep to the left curb at all times. There are cones at the apex s of each right hand bend. YOU MUST KEEP TO THE LEFT OF THESE CONES. Failure to keep left means you haven t completed the course and also may put others (cyclists) at risk, these infringements are liable to a penalty. BIKE: Keep left and pass other cyclists on the right. FINISH AREA: Cross the white line in front of the timing hut. Congratulations hope you had a great race! Please remember to HAND IN YOUR TIMING CHIP in the finish area. Remain in the finish pen until you are allowed to cross the racing circuit to the main building by a marshal. Failure to hand in the timing chip will result in a surcharge of 50. PRESENTATIONS: Each age winner will be awarded a tr0phy. All presentations will take place at the end of the final race when the regional team results will be announced. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THE EVENT AND HOPE TO SEE YOU AT ANOTHER EVENT AT VELOPARK SOON. Note: The event is Chip timed and you must return your chip after finishing the event. Failure to do so will result in a 50 surcharge, (The transponders are expensive.) By entering the event you are agreeing to this as part of the events T&C's. You are required to wear helmets while cycling at VeloPark. If you don t have a helmet you may hire a helmet from the venue. The helmet must be worn correctly at all times when with a bike. If you bring your own it must meet the current UK safety standard - BS EN 1078:1997. Cycling and other activities available at VeloPark carry inherent risks. You should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for your own actions and involvement. If you're unsure whether you are able to participate in any activity, or if you have any questions please ask a member of staff before you enter into a contract or agree to partake in cycling at VeloPark.
We are approaching winter and there may be occasions when the conditions make it unsafe to hold a duathlon. We will let you know as soon as we can if we have to cancel the duathlon. You will be given a refund (minus processing fee) The Velopark management will have the final say on the safety of the circuit.
