BEFORE THE CLINIC: Paperwork + Commitment by 10/22 KEEP THIS INFO Anyone is welcome - Boys or Girls, experienced or not. See or email Coach Shifley if you have questions Before School or During Passing Periods. All dancers will learn the competition choreography for the existing teams. Be aware that there is a great deal of work that occurred during the summer and fall to prepare for Winter Competition, so coming in at this stage will require some extra catch up. If you are not ready for the first competition in December the coaches may decide to wait to floor you. Be prepared for hip hop choreography at all levels including stunts and partnering. You will also need to demonstrate skills, tricks and tumbling (if you have it). *All team selections are made at the discretion of the GCHS Dance Coaching Staff.* Alternates: We may place dancers as alternates for Competitions. We aim for all dancers to perform, but if the skills are not at the level necessary for competition, the coach may place a dancer as an alternate for that performance. Think of it like a bench in some other sports. The alternates and their readiness will be decided on by the coaches, based on readiness for competition level performance. This may change week to week depending on the practice performance of the athlete. Alternates are expected to : Be at every practice/performance that week Be in uniform/costume for that performance Be flexible Work hard to improve, as it is an opportunity to work with the team to build upon potential to earn back a floor spot. Remember If you don t make it this year - Take some classes at a studio and come back in February for conditioning. Keep dancing and keep improving! We audition for 2019-20 in April! We recommend Talent Forum in Libertyville for classes, but there are many more in the area.
KEEP THIS INFO FEES: Outstanding balances from Summer or Fall is due by Nov 1st. If want to know more about waiving fees, contact the athletic office. (contact Coach Shifley if you need to set up an installment plan) Varsity qualified for a National Dance competition in Florida Feb 1-3! The approximate cost for this would be about $1,000 per athlete if we go on the frugal side. This can be raised individually with the Lou Malnati s fundraiser and the rest would be offset by each family. Or families who do not want to fundraise can pay for it out of pocket. Our Snap Raise Fundraiser only covered the increased level of choreo costs. Breakdown: $405 for 3 nights stay in the resort $400 for flights+bus to airport $100 for meals during the day
Expectations: Dance=Lifestyle Your commitment to this program begins at tryouts. You may not be on any other teams during the Grant competitive season. We try to be flexible when possible. However, we give these calendars out for a reason. We need you to be there to be our best. READ THE ATTACHED CALENDAR to see what the time commitment is for the season. Varsity JV We will have practices over winter break and Saturdays for Comp Season. Some competitions are on Sundays. Competition season is a serious commitment. If this is not your intention, then this may not be a good fit for you. IF DANCERS MISS PRACTICE, Coaches may pull that individual from performance if they are not prepared. Work and vacation are NOT excused absences. Excessive doctor s appointments, college visits etc may become an issue as well. We provide a clear calendar so we ask that you schedule around practice as much as possible. Parent contact is required at least 24 hours in advance if a dancer will be missing anything. Consequences for missing events are outlined and are decided upon by the coach. Communication is key to a successful season! You should be prepared for the commitments during dance season and maintain timely communication with the coach should conflicts arise. Performance at clinics, basketball games, competitions and basketball games are a mandatory part of dancing at GCHS. You will be expected to attend all practices, including Tumbling Days. We will meet in the Dance Studio at GCHS unless otherwise noted. Some practices may be early in the morning or later in evening. Please understand that you are to attend all necessary events, practices, and performances with the team. If we travel we will all take the bus both ways with the together. Nutrition and Mindfulness are just as important as Physical training. Winter season overlaps with the holidays - PLAN NOW! School Break: Dec 24-Jan 4 however, like all Winter Athletics, THERE ARE MANDATORY PRACTICES OVER WINTER BREAK! ONLY days off that are guaranteed off over break are DECEMBER 25 and JANUARY 1 We try to leave Dec 25 THROUGH Jan 1 off all the way but at times things come up depending on space and needs Conference for preparation.
