XINGHUA PRIMARY SCHOOL 45 HOUGANG AVENUE 1 SINGAPORE 538882 TEL: 62889121 FAX: 62838831 Xinghua Link ADM 29/15 07 May 2015 Dear Parents/Guardians Sitting at my desk, I went over the list of achievements that was given to me by the various Heads of Department. From this list, I sense deep pride and satisfaction. In particular, I remember going for one of the volleyball competitions, where my Senior Girls Team had to play against a strong opponent in the zonal semi-finals. That was the match which would determine if we would make it to the finals. To show our support, we invited the other students along to watch the game. What I witnessed during the game was clearly a report card on self-discipline in our students. The hall we entered was hot and humid and had no spectator seats. So we had to sit by the side of the courts and on the floor. Our students, on their own initiative, came with self-made banners and posters and were all ready to cheer and clap. Sad to say, we put up a good fight but our team was not leading. Our student-supporters continued to cheer and encourage our players. before the teachers could remind them. And this is, to me, the epitome of good discipline. The school is serious about discipline and we would like to see our pupils exercise greater self - discipline. We communicate to the school community about acceptable behaviour in and out of school on a regular basis. A discipline offence, whether major or minor, will be taken seriously. As educators, we teach our children to take responsibility for their own actions by making it right. I m grateful to all the teachers, parents and caregivers who have taught our children well. Our children have learnt to develop caring and mutually respectful relationships that promote independence. Let us continue to work together to build a powerful learning community that is safe, inclusive and orderly. Halfway through the game, we could feel the pins and needles in our legs. Despite our discomfort, our children never gave up rooting for their school team. They acknowledged and applauded good plays, even though some of these were made by the opposing team. Whenever the officials made a call, our students accepted it gracefully, even if some of these went against us. Never once did anyone trash-talk about the other team. We lost the game eventually, but we are proud of our team s performance. Regards, Volleyball Team & the Supporters On the way back to school, I was deeply impressed that the students had boarded the bus and proceeded to put on their safety belts even SHIRLEY QUEK (MRS) VICE-PRINCIPAL
