Vol. XX Issue 9 JOSEPH P. KENNEDY, JR. AMERICAN LEGION POST 11-11 9959 Wadsworth Blvd. Broomfield, CO 80021 Telephone: (303) 466-1278 SEPTEMBER 2018 NEWSLETTER COMMANDER S CORNER Walt Lee Commander I hope your Summer is going well, cooler days to come. First statement out, THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS, without you all we would not be as successful as we are today. A very good example was this year s Cranker's Car Show. I didn't get the number of volunteers but it was impressive. The show started out with a good number of vehicles, but of course Bad Luck in the making it started raining. A lot of contestants left early but not before Best of Show trophies were handed out, and don't blame them as there was hail reported also. Results of the proceeds are not in to me yet, I believe the Show was a success. For those who do not know Post 11-11 supports a Boy Scout troop #385. We provide them a place to meet and the enclosed Boy Scout trailer which is parked in our lot. There has been a rash of theft involving this kind of equipment and of course the contents which can also be quite expensive. If you see someone around that looks like they don't belong please report them to somebody in the Post or call the Police. Scouting has many steps involved to earn particular award patches (such as helping old Veterans across the street, whether they want to go or not). The most important of these awards is the Eagle Scout Award. From what I understand the Eagle Scout is supposed to pick a project, fully finance it through raising money. This Eagle Scout, his name is Andrew Callas, Andrew has chosen do something for the Veterans of Post 11-11. He has chosen to beautify the front yard, and what a job he did! He laid sod in the areas which needed it very badly. Built and installed new Post 11-11 monogram backboards on the Horseshoe Pits. Built and installed a drip system for our potted plants on the patio and what I think is most impressive, frames (looks like stainless steel) and a mounting for our granite plaques in a beautiful setting. He also provided a plaque honoring our Veterans to be hung on our Patio. I would like to thank Andrew and his fellow Scouts and Parents who helped Andrew complete this task. Looking forward to attending your Eagle Scout Ceremony. Without further ado keep in your thoughts and prayers our military, Veterans, Veterans in the VA Home, and Veterans in the VA Hospital. Walt Lee, Commander AUXILIARY American Legion Auxiliary Mission Statement-In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad.
