1. Introduction Before using SVEA II please read this manual carefully and keep it for future reference. SVEA II GSM Connector is a device for realization of voice connections from analog telephones, fax services and for internet access from PC and data transmission. All services are held over GSM network. Picture 1. 4. Internal elements description 4.1. Internal elements Internal antenna GSM or wire for external antenna Battery backup PCB Picture 4. Elements of SVEA II GSM Connector 4.2. Alarm switch SVEA II has an alarm switch built into the PCB board that senses an unauthorized opening of the terminal. In case of unauthorized opening, SVEA II can send an alarm to Management Center with information about such an event. This information is also shown via LED signalization; POWER LED is flashing: green-yellow, if SVEA II is connected to power supply or red yellow when terminal is operating on battery backup. Cover must be fully closed for the unit to be operational. 4.3. Holes for mounting Picture 5. Holes for terminal mounting 4.4. Battery backup The battery backup is not connected at delivery. The battery should be connected during SVEA II installation. During the first start of SVEA II GSM Connector with battery backup, SVEA II should be connected to power supply for min. 48 hours. If there is a power break while SVEA II is working, the battery shall be recharged for min. 24 hours. In case of power failures, SVEA II will automatically switch to battery backup. A new battery should be used when standby and conversation time of battery backup is shortened (see: 2.4. - battery backup). Picture 6. Battery backup 6

Battery recycling The battery should not be disposed with unsorted household waste. Improper disposal may be harmful to the environment and human health. Please refer to your local waste authority for information on return and collection systems in your area. 4.5. Antenna Depending on the GSM signal level at installation site, a suitable antenna should be chosen to provide correct terminal functionality. SVEA II GSM Connector can work both with the internal and/or an external antenna. Internal antenna An internal helical GSM antenna is provided with terminal; See 2.3 for specification of this antenna. External antenna External GSM antenna for terminal shall fulfill requirements as below. If you notice that the antenna or antenna cable is damaged, contact your reseller. Do not change the antenna or antenna cable by yourself. Do not touch the antenna or antenna cable if it is damaged. Avoid standing close to the antenna, when SVEA II is working. Keep a min. distance of 30cm. This distance can be different depending on antenna type. Picture 7. 5. Installation and safety precautions 5.1. Place of installation SVEA II shall only be used inside buildings and cannot be exposed to humidity, sun or to high and low temperatures. SVEA II GSM Connector shall be installed at least 30cm / 12 inches from people. The distance between SVEA II and other devices connected to SVEA II shall be a minimum 3 meters. Space around terminal shall be free; terminal needs to be ventilated when working. Any heating devices (like radiator, stove) cannot be placed close to SVEA II. SVEA II shall be mounted with screws to mounting holes. SVEA II shall be mounted vertically on flat and hard surface. Picture 9. Example of SVEA II installation 5.2. Safety precautions Should an external antenna be used, please install the telephone cable away from the antenna cable. Do not dismantle and do not drop SVEA II. Battery backup is part of SVEA II. Do not dismantle the battery, because it contains materials that can cause burns to skin. Do not throw the battery into fire, because it can explode. Protect SVEA II against dust. Non-original antennas may have negative influence for RF signal transmission. Using the non-original antennas or connecting other devices can damage SVEA II. If terminal is repaired by a non-authorized person, SVEA II loses all warranty. Only the outside part of SVEA II cabinet can be cleaned. Use a dry and soft cloth only. Do not use cleaning alcohol, acetone, caustic chemicals, solvent, and any scrub powder, which can damage the plastic casing. 8

6. Calling 6.1. Voice services outgoing calls Telephone connected to TELEPHONE plug. 1. Pick up telephone handset, you will hear dial tone. If terminal is not ready you will hear a busy tone or a non-available tone. 2. Dial the number (DTMF/PULSE). If you press # the number will be sent to network immediately. Without pressing # number will be sent automatically after 7 seconds. 3. SVEA II sets the connection with defined number. 4. Hang up to end connection. 6.2. Voice services incoming calls Telephone connected to TELEPHONE plug. 1. After receiving information about incoming calls, terminal sends ringing tone to TELEPHONE plug. 2. Pick up telephone handset and start your conversation. 3. Hang up to end connection. 6.3. Additional services Telephone connected to TELEPHONE plug. 1. Pick up telephone handset, you will hear dial tone. If terminal is not ready you will hear a busy tone or a non-available tone. 2. Choose a code of additional service via DTMF. You cannot use PULSE mode for these services. 3. SVEA II receives service code from user and sends to network operator. 4. Hang up to end connection. 6.4. FAX services outgoing calls Fax connected to FAX/MODEM plug. 1. Sequence the same as in voice calls. 6.5. FAX services incoming calls Fax connected to FAX/MODEM plug, calls incoming on additional number for fax calls. It is recommended to set fax on automatic receiving mode. 1. After receiving information about incoming calls, SVEA II sends ringing tone to FAX/MODEM plug. 2. After answering the call, fax machine starts receiving the fax message. 6.6. Internet connection Dial-up Telephone modem connected to FAX/MODEM plug. 1. Choose (DTMF/PULSE) a number of ISP (Internet Service Provider). 2. Terminal sets the connection. 6.7. Data transmission outgoing calls Telephone modem connected to FAX/MODEM plug. 1. Pick up line to get a dial tone. 2. Choose a number (DTMF/PULSE) preceding 1*. If you press # the number will be sent to network immediately. Without pressing # number will be sent automatically after 7 seconds. 3. SVEA II sets the connection with defined number. 4. Hang up to end connection. 6.8. Data transmission incoming connections Telephone modem is connected to FAX/MODEM plug, calls incoming on additional number for data transmission. 1. After receiving information about incoming calls, SVEA II sends ringing tone to FAX/MODEM plug. 2. SVEA II sets the connection. For fax calls the minimum GSM signal shall be on medium level according to table in 3.3 SIGNAL LED. Realization of voice connection is not possible via FAX/MODEM connector. 9

7. Troubleshooting Problem with noise during connection Move connected devices away from SVEA II, and in case of using an external antenna move it also away at least 3 metres/ 10 feet from antenna and antenna cable. Problem with signal on line TELEPHONE and/or FAX/MODEM: Make sure that SVEA II is connected to power supply or battery backup (see 3.3 LED signalization). Make sure that signal level is strong enough (SIGNAL LED). Make sure that cables between terminal and connected devices are connected correctly and that they are not damaged. If device is connected to SVEA II correctly, make sure that SVEA II is reacting correctly for on Hook / Off Hook state (see 3.3 LED signalization). If SVEA II shows correct state but there is no signal (contact your operator). Problem with CLIP presentation: Make sure that telephone connected to SVEA II, services the FSK signalization standard. You can find this information in the user manual of analog telephone. Contact your operator, to find if CLIP FSK service is activated. Problem with additional services offered by operator: Contact your operator to find if additional service is activated for your SVEA II. Using the additional services is possible only via DTMF mode. Make sure that telephone connected to terminal is in DTMF mode. Problem with sending / receiving fax: Make sure that fax machine is connected to the FAX/MODEM plug. Contact your operator to find if sending/receiving fax message service (i.e CSD-fax ) is activated for your SVEA II and if you have an additional dedicated number for fax. Switch the fax machine to automatic mode and try once again to send /receive fax message. Make sure that SIGNAL LED shows correct GSM signal level recommended for realization of fax service. Problem with data transmission: Make sure that the modem is connected to FAX/MODEM plug. Contact your operator to find if data transmission service is active for your SVEA II and if you have additional number for data transmission. 8. Information about safety SVEA II GSM Connector uses the general GSM standard, like typical mobile phones. 8.1. Electronic equipment Although most of electronic equipment is well protected from RF signals, RF signals may interfere with some devices. In some cases the signal from SVEA II or external antenna, can interfere with medical equipment e.g. hearing aid. If you notice problems please read the instruction of your device. In case of using other medical equipment contact your doctor or manufacture of equipment, to make sure that your equipment is well protected from RF signals. 8.2. Usage Power cable and other cables connected to SVEA II shall always be installed in a proper way. Do not let children touch SVEA II and cables that are connected to terminal. If you notice that power cable is damaged, inform your reseller. Do not change the cable yourself. Non-original cable can caused damages to SVEA II. It can also be dangerous to the user. Recycling SVEA II should not be disposed with unsorted household waste. Improper disposal may be harmful to the environment and human health.
