Both teams are off to slow starts after recording 20- win seasons and postseason tournament appearances in 2017-18. The Lady Flames have lost four straight games overall and have dropped their last five contests away from Lynchburg, dating back to last season. Two of those setbacks have come in the Volunteer State, including a 100-60 loss at Tennessee in the 2018 NCAA Tournament and a 75-60 loss at Chattanooga on Nov. 21. Liberty has won each of its last three meetings with ETSU, but the two teams have not squared off since Jan. 13, 2009. Two of Liberty's top three scorers have Tennessee ties, including leading scorer and Memphis native Emily Lytle (15.1 ppg) and 2017 Tennessee Miss Basketball Ashtyn Baker (8.1 ppg). Both Lytle and Baker are part of a sophomore class that has scored 61.2 percent of the Lady Flames' points this season. ETSU Liberty and ETSU are facing one another for the 13th time overall but for the first time since Jan. 13, 2009. ETSU owns a 7-5 lead in the head-to-head series, but the Lady Flames have won all three matchups under Head Coach Carey Green. Both teams are coming off of impressive 2017-18 seasons, as Liberty went 24-10 with an NCAA Tournament appearance and ETSU played in the WNIT at the end of its 20-13 campaign. ETSU was selected as the Southern Conference's co-favorite for, along with Mercer. Liberty was picked second to FGCU in the ASUN Conference. However, both teams have struggled with injuries and challenging schedules to begin the season. Liberty is 1-6, while ETSU is 1-9. The Lady Flames (Ashtyn Baker) and Bucs (Erica Haynes-Overton) each feature conference freshmen of the year from last season. Both players helped their teams win high school state titles in Tennessee. Haynes-Overton is averaging a team-high 18.0 ppg and 4.6 spg for ETSU. Tuesday's game will take place at Brooks Gym, which is located next door to the Memorial Center ("Mini Dome"), where Liberty faced ETSU during its most recent visit to Johnson City on Jan. 8, 2008. LAST MEETING WITH ETSU JAN. 13, 2009 LIBERTY 64, ETSU 54 LYNCHBURG, VA. (VINES CENTER) Liberty took control of the game with a 15-0 run to end the first half. Megan Frazee (16 points, 13 rebounds) paced the Lady Flames and was joined in double figures by Avery Warley (15 points, 8 rebounds), Amber Mays (10 points, 8 steals) and Moriah Frazee (10 points, 7 rebounds). ETSU's TaRonda Wiles (18 points) topped all players in the scoring column and was aided by Latisha Belcher (14 points) and Gwen Washington (10 points, 11 rebounds). However, ETSU shot just 33.3 percent for the game. PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES A move from the Big South Conference to the ASUN Conference combined with an ambitious non-conference schedule will lead to a considerable amount of travel this season. The Lady Flames have taken six total flights through five different airports (Charlotte, Chattanooga, Daytona Beach, Lynchburg and Philadelphia). Including this trip, the Lady Flames have spent eight nights in hotels so far this season. Liberty is within a stretch where it will play eight of nine games away from Lynchburg. All five of the Lady Flames' December contests will take place away from the Vines Center. LIBERTY IN THE VOLUNTEER STATE The Lady Flames are scheduled to make three trips to Tennessee in, also including their 75-60 loss at Chattanooga on Nov. 21 and a Jan. 29 contest at Lipscomb. Liberty is seeking its first win in Tennessee since a 70-27 triumph over Lipscomb on Nov. 26, 2011 in Nashville. Head Coach Carey Green hails from Louisville, Tenn. Emily Lytle is a Memphis native, while Ashtyn Baker was named Tennessee Division II-A Miss Basketball in 2016-17. LIBERTY VS. SOCON Liberty will be facing a Southern Conference (SoCon) opponent for the 39th time in program history. The Lady Flames are 14-24 all-time when facing SoCon opponents, including 5-4 under Carey Green. Prior to this season, Liberty had not played against a SoCon opponent in six years. Liberty is now in the midst of a stretch of three SoCon matchups in 26 days. The Lady Flames lost 75-60 at Chattanooga on Nov. 21, visit ETSU on Tuesday and head to UNCG on Dec. 16. The Lady Flames are 3-7 when facing ETSU as a SoCon member. The teams' last two meetings (2008 & 2009) came when ETSU was a part of the ASUN Conference. on this date: Liberty is 6-7 all-time when playing on Dec. 4, including 0-1 against ETSU (88-60 home loss in 1989). DEC. 4 The Lady Flames achieved one of the biggest wins in program history on this date in 2004, defeating No. 19/17 Kansas State 77-56 in the title game of the Commerce Bank Wildcat Tournament. It marked Liberty's first road win over a Top 25 opponent. Liberty is 107-128 all-time in December, including 62-58 under Carey Green and 3-3 last season. 3

The ASUN Newcomer of the Week on Nov. 12, Lytle scored in double figures in each of her first six games, including a pair of 20-point efforts. No player had tallied six straight double-digit games to start her Liberty career since Karly Buer (8 games) in 2014-15. AIMING FOR BACK-TO-BACK DANCES After making its 17th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018, the Lady Flames will look to make it back-toback visits to the "Big Dance." Liberty has not played in consecutive NCAA Tournaments since 2012 and 2013. RULERS OF THE REBOUNDS Liberty has ranked among the nation s top 20 teams for rebound margin in each of the last 16 seasons, leading the country on six occasions (2003-04, 2004-05, 2009-10, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14). RULERS OF THE REBOUNDS, PART 2 Liberty has outrebounded four of seven opponents to tip off the season. The Lady Flames' current rebound margin stands at an ASUN-leading +4.9, and they are averaging 14.7 offensive boards per game. RULERS OF THE REBOUNDS, PART 3 During Carey Green's tenure at Liberty, the Lady Flames have outrebounded 83.6 percent (514 of 615) of their opponents. Liberty's record when winning the rebounding battle under Green's direction is 405-109, including 1-3 this season. WINNING COMBINATION Last season, Liberty was one of four teams to rank among the nation's top 20 for rebound margin and scoring defense, joining Baylor, Green Bay and UConn. 4 FABULOUS FRESHMEN Liberty's roster includes both the 2017 Big South Freshman of the Year (Keyen Green) and the 2018 Big South Freshman of the Year (Ashtyn Baker). This is the first time Liberty has ever won back-toback conference freshman of the year honors. Liberty is one of three NCAA Division I teams which currently features freshmen of the year from each of the last two seasons, along with new ASUN rival Kennesaw State and Oregon. SPLENDID SUMMER For the third time in program history (also 2010 and 2014), the Liberty women's basketball team took a summer trip to Israel, spending July 20-Aug. 12 in the Holy Land. The Lady Flames played a pair of games against the Israel National Team, winning both matchups. THE GLASS IS HALF FULL The Lady Flames are 115-2 under Head Coach Carey Green when making at least 50 percent of their field goals, including 8-1 last season. THE GLASS IS HALF EMPTY Only 26 of 615 (4.2 percent) opposing teams have shot 50 percent or better from the field during Head Coach Carey Green's tenure at Liberty. WORKING OVERTIME Liberty has played 33 overtime games in program history, going 14-19. The season-opening 81-76 overtime loss at Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 9 was the Lady Flames' first overtime contest since an 84-82 setback at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 15, 2017. The following are Liberty's overtime records... Current Streak: Lost 3 Under Carey Green: 5-10 Home: 6-3 Road: 7-11 Neutral: 1-5 Double OT: 2-3 (Liberty has never played 3+ OTs) LOOKING AHEAD Liberty recently announced the signing of three incoming freshmen for the 2019-20 season: Anjanae Mueck (F, 6-0, Phoenix, Ariz.) Asia Todd (G, 5-9, Clayton, N.C.) Kennedi Williams (PG, 5-7, Douglasville, Ga.)
