Alex, who was Head Boy at Cavendish in 1984, took time out of his schedule from his base in York to provide insight and advice to students on c a r e e r p a t h s a n d opportunities within the corporate sector. He very kindly also arranged that they receive goodie bags packed full o f W a r b u r t o n s products.

Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival Official Poster Winner George Kyprianou-Hickman of Year 7 is the artist behind one of two official Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival Posters for 2013. With almost 400 entries, competition was strong and there were some very impressive works submitted, but it was George s clever use of detail and warm, eye catching colours that won him the honour of being chosen to advertise this year s event, which takes place on Saturday 25th May. His achievement was announced by Mr Stephen Lloyd, MP for Eastbourne and Willingdon. George's winning entry can be found at the back of this newsletter. S hout About Former Cavendish School student George Ellis has won the prestigious Guildhall Brass Prize. George who is now a third year Tuba player at GSMD, won 1000, which he plans to use to purchase a larger Tuba. Well done George! T eacher Appeal To help us provide shade and shelter for students during Sports Day we are asking if anyone who owns a Gazebo would mind lending it to us for use on the day. If you can help, please email Mr Barrow sbarrow@cavendishschool.net The Book Lounge Contemporary Dance & Cheerleading Clubs The Little Theatre @ Cavendish School Wednesdays, from June 5th - Contemporary Dance, 3.30-4.30 Thursdays, from June 6th - Cheerleading, 3.30-4.30 Street Dance, Contemporary, Ballet and Cheerleading, taught by experienced Universal Dance teachers. SPORTING ROUNDUP A round up of the sporting events, achievements and successes of the last fortnight. Cavendish Year 10 Girls Street20 Cricket Team Success The talented Cavendish team competed in an annual tournament at Hailsham CC last week, winning two of their three games and beating Ratton and Hailsham CC. Elizabeth Bigsby & Lucy Robinson went on to claim the title of highest scorers at the event. LEWIS HEADLAND S rugby achievements are going from strength to strength. Recently playing in the annual RFU academy 12-a-side match., Lewis scored a try against Gloucester in a match that saw his team, Harlequins, win 15-5 A Winning Year 7 Rugby Team Our Year 7 team have been celebrating their recent achievements during an Eastbourne Under 10 s match in which they demonstrated fantastic skill and athleticism. Winning against Priory School and with an outstanding victory against Ratton, the team came third overall in the play-offs. A terrific result. Cavendish School Sports Day 2013 The Cavendish School PE Department are building on the success of last year s whole school Sports Day, with a bigger, better event that will take place on Wednesday 26th June 2013. All students are expected to take part and should attend in their PE kit. More details on this event will be released after half term.

As you can imagine, this is quite a large job as we try to place 600 students and we ask that students and parents are patient. We are trying very hard to ensure as many students as possible get their first choices Information regarding which activities students are placed on will be released as soon as possible. Where there are clashes or where trips and activities are full, students will be seen individually to talk through swaps and solutions.
