Captains Corner And yet again a few months have pass by and we played golf on some of our best courses in Australia. I hope you all enjoyed the last few months of golf and I hope to see full playing fields in the New Year During our August game, held at North Lakes we participated in our yearly Queensland Cup competition, competing against the Sunshine Coast club. We had a total of 107 players at the day, with 23 guest and 33 Sunshine Coast players. Unfortunately for Brisbane, the Sunny Coast boys brought along their A game and had a very convincing win on the day. More details to follow in the match summary. Our September game at Carbrook was one of the lowest attendance games ever, with 48 players playing a Carbrook in very good conditioning. I personally think it was in the best condition we have ever played the course. We had a big contingent of players attending the Zimbabwe golf day thinning out our numbers of attending members. From the 23 rd 25 th October 19 of our club members represented Brisbane in this Year s Nationals tournament held at The Vines in Perth. We again as previous years were leading the pack when it came to enjoying the weekend so much that for the second year in a row one of our club members won the overall crying towel. I want to mention David Hall as the new keeper of this record for Brisbane, although not winning any of the days Crying towels, he won with an overall score of 44 points for the weekend (19 & 25).David was not the only one competing for the towel, Rob Dunsmuir tried his very best every day with an overall score of 45 (21 & 24). In Rob s defence I have to mention his ability to stay awake, arriving Friday afternoon from a two day wine tour, he lead a pack of six (Tony Schafer, Dave Barr, Sean Bell, Paul McIlroy and myself) to play coinage till 2.30am on Saturday morning, and apparently after Paul and I left, continued further. Off course therefore the score of 21 points on Saturday. Unfortunately for his liver the day continue to the same time Sunday morning, staying awake with almost the full contingent of attending Nomads members to support the Boks against the Kiwi s. Regrettably for most of us, except Kel Hirini and Gary Mulholland, we were supporting the losing team. Due to the big contingent of Brisbane players enjoying the Friday night air, with the scores Saturday below average, which meant we end absolutely last on the day. But when the rest of the Nomads did the same on Saturday night, we show them we can play golf after a late night, increasing our overall standing to second for the weekend. Well done Brisbane, I am proud of your improved golf and actions on and off the course. To Paul McIlroy who has now passed his President s jacket to Chris Fichardt, welcome back into the red Brisbane shirt, we appreciate everything you have done for Nomads the last six years as part of Natex, now you can start enjoying the games, without all the responsibilities. At our Hope Island game Warwick presented a cheque for $20,000 to Sporting Wheelies who we supported this year as our charity. I again want to congratulate Warwick on a very well managed Charity Day, and let Gary know he can count on all members for support in preparation of his Charity day next year. Nomads support to Charities from inception in Australia has now after the Perth and Page 2 Dec 2015

Sydney North Charity days increased to almost $550.000. We had our biggest field to date this year at the Hope Island game with 86 players attending. Our final game for the year and first game at Brisbane Golf club presented even bigger numbers than Hope Island with a total of 88 players. Our Gold cup competition was played and the final round of the Peter Thompson knock out was contested. Nationals 2016 date and venue has been finalized. Brisbane will host the Nationals at Hope Island from 28 30 October 2016. I am looking for members to be part of the organising team, especially someone to look after sponsors, please let me know if you are interested to be part of this team. Registration will open early 2016 and will be based on a first in and paid registration process as I expect we will have a full field of 144 players and we will have to limit the numbers to each club. Our clubs membership is continuing to grow with a total of 111 members and 15 probationer members. We also have at least two new guests at every game, which mean further growth for the club and I again want to thank all members for the continuous marketing of the club to your friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances. Below is a summary of the 2015 games and results: 2015 Attendance and Scoring 120 100 80 37 29.17 39 30.47 36 27.08 37 26.30 42 33.64 41 29.48 38 26.54 40 30.33 38 27.20 39 30.73 36 27.31 40 30.71 45.00 40.00 35.00 30.00 Field 60 40 20 57 76 77 84 67 58 83 79 100 68 72 76 25.00 20.00 15.00 10.00 5.00 Points Gailes Indro P G Coast Bwater Em Lakes Nudgee Sanc Cove G Greens N Lakes Carbrook Win Lakes H Island Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Members Guests Total Avg Scoring Max Score I urge all our members to focus our attention on the speed of play and request arrival at least 40 minutes before the tee off time for registration. As we now have shotgun starts at every game, the clubs want to start the pre match procedures at least 15 minutes before tee off, and if members Page 3 Dec 2015

arrive late, we run behind the rest of the field. I appreciate all the members support with registration and speed of play. As this is my last newsletter I want to thank all players and guest for a great year, I thoroughly enjoyed the year as Captain and I hope all of you will return in 2016 to help grow Brisbane into one of the best social golf club in the world. I appreciate all the support and banter during the year and want to wish Warwick and his committee all the best for 2016. I wish you all a Blessed Christmas Season and a Prosperous New year, hope I see most of you at our first game at Indooroopilly on 17 January 2016. Yours in Nomads Nell Schoeman Page 4 Dec 2015

Match Report This month I will give you the results for the games at Gainsborough Greens, North Lakes, Carbrook, Pacific Harbour, Hope Island and Brisbane Golf Club. Our July game was at Gainsborough Greens with 59 players attending (52 members and 7 guests). Our August game at North Lakes golf club had 107 players (61 members, 33 Sunshine Coast and 23 guests). Our best supported game this year was at Brisbane Golf Club with 88 players (65 members and 23 guests). We had the following results for the July Gainsborough Greens game: We started a cold morning but finished with reasonable scores with an average score of 30.43 and especially the guest finishing with high scores. Our A division winner was Dave Pelan (35 of 6 handicap) beating Laurens Hamman (35 of a 8 handicap) on a count out. B division was won by Gavin Farmery (35 of a 14 handicap) beating Ryan Broodryk by one point (34 of a 12 handicap). Our crying towel ends up in the hands of Darren Hillier with 20 points of a 13 handicap. Queensland Cup at North Lakes Golf Club during August was well attended with 107 players, 23 guest, 33 Sunshine Coast players and 51 Brisbane members. Unfortunately Sunshine Coast arrived with their A Game and had a significant win with and avarage of more than two shots better than Brisbane. The avarage score for the days was a very low 27.25. Wim and Ralph both looks very happy with the new addition to Ralphs trophey cupboard. Page 6 Dec 2015

Trevor Pieterse received his 5 year tie. We had the induction of one new member, Raymond Sterley. A division was won by Michael Berry (SC) (31 of 5 handicap) beating Ian Horsley (31 of 5 handicap) on a count out. B division was won by Nick Cloete (SC) (37 of 13 handicap) beating his fellow Sunshine Coast member Warren Daniel (34 of 14 handicap). Our September game at Carbrook was not well presented this year as we only had a field of 48 players with 40 members 8 guest with an average score of 30.65. Unfortunately we don t have any photos of the day. Lloyd McIlroy made up for his crying towel win at North Lakes by wining A division (38 of a 9 handicap) with a tough contested second place with a three way count out between Ian Horsley (35 of 5 handicap), Trevor Goss (35 of a 6 handicap) and Tony Schafer (35 of a 10 handicap). B division was won by Brian Carlton (36 of a 13 handicap) by two points over Leon Stevens (34 of a 15 handicap). Bryce Bungay had his first win as a Nomads member winning C division (35 of a 24 handicap) with Phil Coetzee (34 of a 18 handicap) taking second place. The best guest for the day was Steven Hack with 40 of a 8. The best approach was won by Ian Horsley with Leon Stevens and Iain Ross winning the nearest to the pins. Paul McIlroy, Ray Birt, Andy Geuthner and Richard Ralfe won the best fourball for the day with a total of 133. Our October game at Pacific Harbour was again well presented by Sunshine Coast members with 6 playing in the game. The rain stayed away we had the opportunity to play this great course which turned out difficult for most members with an average score of 27.19. The Sunshine Coast members again shined as at North Lakes winning first and second division. A division winner was Mike Berry (33 of 5 handicap) beating Laurens Hamman (32 of a 7 handicap). B division was won by Warren Daniel (33 of a 12 handicap) Page 8 Dec 2015

Page 9 Dec 2015

Hope Island What a stunning day to play Hope Island, almost exactly a year from the date our Nationals for 2016 will start at this venue. We had I big field with 86 players attending and special guest from the Sunshine Coast Allan Coulson joining us. The committee decided to present badges to all members indicating the number of years they have been members, similar to the ties, but with the opportunity to wear the badge on your cap as a display to other members. From the Rule Book Rule 28: Ball Unplayable The player may deem his ball unplayable at any place on the course, except when the ball is in a water hazard. The player is the sole judge as to whether his ball is unplayable. If the player deems his ball to be unplayable, he must, under penalty of one stroke: a. Proceed under the stroke and distance provision of Rule 27-1 by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or b. Drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped; or c. Drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot where the ball lay, but not nearer the hole. If the unplayable ball is in a bunker, the player may proceed under Clause a, b or c. If he elects to proceed under Clause b or c, a ball must be dropped in the bunker. When proceeding under this Rule, the player may lift and clean his ball or substitute a ball. PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE: Match play Loss of hole; Stroke play Two strokes. On the Lighter Side Page 17 Dec 2015
