The Winter galas are only for Level 2 and higher swimmers Age is determined as on the first day of the gala. Swimmers may only compete in their respective age group or in permitted events. All swimmers must compete in the level for which they have qualified as at the first day of the gala. In other words, if a swimmer finished the 2017 18 season (on 30 th April 2018) as a level 3, they start the season (on 1 st May 2018) as a level 3. A swimmer is permitted to remain at that same level until ageing up, then the swimmer must have set times for that level at his/her new age. For example, if a swimmer starts the season at level SANJ, but ages up in June and has not set a level SANJ time for his/her new age, the swimmer must return to level 3. The same applies for level 3 swimmers. All newly registered swimmers wishing to compete at CGA winter galas will commence the season, from 1 st May 2018 as level 2 swimmers. A swimmer who achieves a level 3 time must move up to level 3 once that higher level has been achieved. However, in line with SSA rules, swimmers who are 10 years and younger may elect to remain in level 2 competition.
