Radio Controlled Car Association of Ireland 1/10th Electric Off Road National Championship 2015 Round 2, DMCC, 14th June The thing about the Dublin Model Car Clubs track at the Naul Co. Dublin, is that they don t need to worry about the weather as its an indoor Astro turf track. However a lot of preparation had gone into the venue for the RCCAOI round. With a new layout there was an interesting cross over, that they assured us works well! And it did, though it takes a little getting use to! DMCC Track ready to go, with the Cross-over in the middle
Qualifying: As weather isnt an issue (though it was a great day!), racing got under way as scheduled. In Round 1 2WD modified Denzell McBurney stood head and shoulders above everyone else with 18 Laps, however Colin Whelan was flying in the Yokomo. In 2WD clubman Kevin White was on fire right from the start, taking the win 2 laps ahead of Jack Cunningham in second. In 4WD Modified, Michael Bolger took the top spot just 2 seconds ahead of William White. With Derek McCloskey in third. Round 2 saw some close racing with 3 drivers withing 10 seconds of each other in 2wd mod, but Denzell showing us all he had plans on taking the win right from the start. Kevin White was so busy running the racing he forgot to get out on the track in time in 2wd clubman, leaving the door open for Graham Parkes to take the top spot, closely followed by Tony Dorney. In 4WD mod, Derek McCloskey in the Schumacher was showing he was getting a handle on the track, finishing 5 seconds behind race leader, Michael Bolger. William White wasn t far behind in 3 rd position. Round 3 saw little change at the top of 2wd mod, but some of the younger drivers were demonstrating they arent too far behind, and will be taking the top spots soon enough! Adam Keegan and Alan Thompson did some great driving and were just a few second outside the top 3. In 4wd mod, Michael Bolger continued to dominate the day, with Team Cs William White in second. 3 rd position saw Lee McGuire in the Tamiya just 0.1 of a second ahead of Derek McCloskey. In 2wd Clubman, Kevin White took the top spot, this time remembering he had to race! Graham Parkes took second just a couple of seconds behind Tony Dorney. Michael Bolger dominated qualifying in the AE B4.3 Finals: Before the finals kicked off all racers gathered together on the track to have a couple of minutes of listening to Metallica in memory of Jimmy oople Storey. Jimmy was known and loved by many Irish racers as the man who brought fun back into Toy Car Racing. There was a load of Oople tee shirts being worn on the day, including the great #WWJD one by Michael Bolger. The first final up was the 2WD modified B final with Michael O`Leary, Derek McCloskey and Jacek Zadrozny in the top 3 positions on the grid. However the win was taken by Ivan Thompson in the Team C car.
The 2WD A final saw Denzell continue to dominate, with Colin Whelan just 2 seconds ahead of Michael Bolger. In Clubman, Kevin White took the win a full lap ahead of everyone else. We think its time Kevin went Modified! 4wd Modified saw Michael Bolger take the win, but it was a close race, with only 1 second between William White and Lee McGuire. Leg 2 saw Michael O`Leary take the win in the B final, but little change in the A, with Denzell showing us all how to drive model cars. However Alan Thompson came third giving Michael Bolger a serious run for his money. Colin Whelan had a disastrous leg, finishing last giving him a serious fight ahead of him for the last leg. 4WD Modified saw Michael Bolger get his overall win taking 1 st, and Colin Whelan taking third finally getting to grips with the Yokomo. In Clubman, Kevin White took the win again, furthering his lead in the championship. Alan Thompson in disguise, who took 3 rd Position in Leg 2. At the start of Leg 3, all first places were already taken, but everything else was still up for grabs. 2WD Clubman saw Kevin White take his third win, followed by Tony Dorney and Graham Parkes who would join Kevin on the podium. 2WD Modified saw Colin and Michael battle it out to the end for second positon. Colin took the win, with both drivers coming onto the straight for a drag race to the line. Just 0.4 of a second seperated them! Just shows how close the racing is. In 4WD Modified, first was again taken by Michael, but the racing was close, with William taking second and Lee in third. There was a 4WD Clubman class running too, but just 2 drivers took part. It saw Graham Parkes and Tony Dorney battle it out all day, with a well deserved win going to Tony. Hopefully this class will start to grow in the future.
