P a g e 4 Duncan Golf & Tennis Club Newsletter Superintendent s Corner The rain has finally let up and the golf course in going into dormancy. The Bermuda will turn brown but it is not dead. Just resting for the winter. Like some of you members do. I don t blame you. The Improvements crew has many projects it is working on throughout the course. Please be mindful and try not to kill them, they will do the same. Our irrigation leaks are growing less and less by the day. I super love that. We have a big project going on over on hole #5 by the green. We have knocked down some of the humps and we will be doing some reshaping up by the bunker and around the green soon. That s it from me. We made it through summer and love the slower pace of winter. Be sure and try out all of the food in the restaurant. My Favorite is the OKC BLT. Get the mac and cheese as your side. You will love it. See you out there. Daniel Mills, GCS
P a g e 5 Tips from the Pros Playing golf in different temps makes the golf ball fly different distances. If you are on the course in the winter and expecting to fly the ball as far as you were in August, go get your wedge because you re chipping. When fighting the cold temps, I always fall back into taking one more club than what is required and controlling the pace of my swing to have effortless power instead of powerless effort. This approach allows me to achieve the desired distance and helps minimize my misses. I play conservatively anyways but during the cold months, I definitely play away from trouble and attempt to hit the most boring shot available. This approach allows me to manage the highs and lows that come with playing cold weather golf and enjoy the game more until green grass returns.
