Syngent Soyben Insecticide Screening Study Agronomic nd Culturl Informtion Experimentl design: Rndomized complete block with 8 tretments nd 4 replictions s: s pplied with hnd-held, CO2-powered, 3-nozzle spry boom (800067 nozzles, 50 mesh screens, 31 gp finl spry volume) on Oct 4 Smpling: Insect sweeps (10 sweeps/plot) on Oct 5 (1 dys fter tretment, DAT), Oct 9 (5 DAT), Oct 11 (7 DAT) nd Oct 13 (9 DAT) Discussion We set up this experiment in our rice strip t the Beumont Center so tht we could irrigte plots when necessry. However, due to hevy rins during the 2017 growing seson (including Hurricne Hrvey) nd lck of insect popultions in these plots, we bndoned these plots. However, cross Aggie Dr. we hd plnted nother soyben test in coopertion with Byer soyben seed division. This experiment ws plnted lter nd contined severl lrge plots tht survived erlier rins before Hurricne Hrvey, s well s Hurricne Hrvey, nd hrbored good popultions of insects when soybens were R5-6. Consequently, we shifted this experiment to these plots just to the west of Aggie Dr. One reson these plots survived Hurricne Hrvey (which hit SE Texs the lst week of August into the first week of September) ws becuse wter from Hrvey drined off these plots reltively quickly (3-4 dys). Results: 1 DAT: All tretments effectively controlled GCW nd VBC (Tble 1). SL popultions were too low for meningful evlution. Stink bug popultions were composed of RBSB, SGSB, GSB nd BSB. None of the tretments significntly reduced stink bug popultions compred to the untreted, but, numericlly, the tnk mix of Orthene nd Brigde gve the best control of stink bugs (Tbles 2 nd 3). Threecornered lflf hopper (CAH) popultions were high in ll tretments, except the tnk mix of Orthene nd Brigde (Tble 4). 5 DAT: Lepidopter popultions were low in ll tretments, including the untreted (Tble 6). When considering stink bugs, ll tretments effectively controlled them, including RBSB (Tble 8). CAH popultions were best controlled by the tnk mix of Orthene nd Brigde (Tble 9). 7 DAT: No Lepidopter were collected from ny of the plots---popultions hd nturlly decresed. Very few stink bugs were collected in ny plots; thus, dt re not very meningful (Tble 11). CAH popultions were reltively low throughout the experiment (Tble 12). 9 DAT: RBSB popultions, prticulrly nymphs, were significntly lower in ll tretments compred to the untreted (Tble 15). Although not significntly different, s rtes of A21550 incresed, so did control with or without Dyne-Amic. Dyne-Amic did not pper to fford better control compred to tretments without Dyne-Amic (Tble 15). None of the tretments controlled CAH popultions (Tble 16). We did not hrvest plots becuse of the effects of Hurricne Hrvey. 87
