ARDECHE TOUR Newsletter racers april 2017 N 2 Dear racers, Raid in France 2017 course has now been finalized and it has been a real pleasure for us to work on it. The territories you are going to cross this year are historically wild and green. A very big thank you for all our institutional, regional, departmental, community of communes, communes partners, which have helped us with passion to offer you this wonderful track. Currently, we have nearly 30 teams enrolled, and I want to thank you sincerely. You, the racers, that trust us since several editions, since 2007 for some of you, but also those, who are going to take part to this adventure for the first time and that will feel this sensation of intense happiness, some time sadness, but who, once the finish line cross, will have this feeling of having accomplish a human adventure out of the ordinary, and who will be changed forever. We still have and will always have this willing of offering a race reachable for the greatest number of racers. A race where every one can live there adventure as they want, running after a victory, or enjoying the tack and willing to make the most of the course. Last but not least, a great thanks to all the volunteers, the older ones, the youngest, the new ones Every one, whom, with their motivation, enthusiasm and help, push us to look forward and keep going in the right way. General organisation The entries for raid in France 2017 will be closed on the 30 th of April at 00h00. Raid in France headquarters and organisational points will be at lake Devesset leisure center, located near Devesset village and Saint-Agrève village. You will find in the villages all the shops you should need (food, sport equipment ). Reminder: a booking sheet «Resa-Booking ARWS RIF 20167» must be download and send to Beatrice (concurrent@raidinfrance.fr) later on 2 nd of May. This sheet contains: bookings for the withewater equipment, the Bike Boxes, the shuttles from the airport, the closing ceremony diner and the guests (watch out the number of places is limited). If any teams have issues with their entry, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. Moreover, if any team have an issue with one racer from their team, the organisation has a listing of racers, aiming to compete. Please, do not hesitate to get in touch with Beatrice, and we will do every thing we can to help you. Every team who has not send back their interviews and photos and asked to do it the soonest!
Transport Reminder: the organisation, has settled a shuttle between Lyon saint Exupéry and Devesset and return. A financial contribution is requested for this service. Booking: Download sheet «Resa-Booking». Accomodation Reminder: on Raid in France website, Practical infos heading, you can find the link to Val Eyrieux s tourist information (located in Saint-Agrève) with all accommodations advice. The accommodation proposal negotiated for you is located at the same place that your equipment storage. At lake Devesset leisure center will be store all your equipment. Route This year, the routes will consiste in a lap from Devesset lake to Devesset lake. 13 sections and the prologue (swimrun of 45 mn) will build this 2017 Raid in France. 4 trekking stages, 5 of MTB, 3 sections of white water, 1 of sailing and several technical activities (canyoning, ropes, caving) in between some sections. Some sections will be long and well inspired of expedition spirit; others will be quicker and more dynamic. This track of 420km should be covered by the first teams in 92h00 ish and can take up to 136h. Mandatory rest times This year, there is not any support area. You will have 11 mandatory hours of rest that you must take on the checkpoints or transition areas by piece of 2h minimum and 5h maximum. On the transition areas, you must hand in your boxes and transport equipment before your hours of rest are deducted. The entire rest hours must be taken before the last checkpoint. On the transition areas, you will find your assistance container. Race logistic MTB - Reminder: the regulate size of the MTB boxes is 140x80x30cm (Standard ARWS requirements). The boxes can be smaller, but one side must not be bigger. The boxes must be waterproof (Raw Cardboard forbidden). The weight of one box is limited to 30kg during the race. You have the opportunity to put in your box what you want. The more your box is light, the more equipment you can carry in the box during the race! The organisation is selling Bike Boxes, answering to every regulation points, waterproof and light (7kg maximum). Booking: see «Booking» sheet. The Boxes will be delivered in Devesset from the 2 nd of June. Price for one box: 135 euros. Wighywaters: whitewater equipment will be transported in sealed bags (maximum 2), that you will need to provide. Trash bags or similar will not be accepted. The weight is regulated (25kg in total) and you will have the opportunity to put in what you want. Be careful: in the mandatory equipment list, have been added one or two boat trolleys (boat of brand Dag, Tarka type).
Information regarding boats carrying sections on Raid in France 2017 You will have several long boat-carrying sections for this edition; this is why boat trolleys are in the mandatory equipment list. Those carriages will be done on some paths and tracks. You will have to carry your boats and your belongings. The boat trollleys will be transported by the organization with your whitewater equipment, so they need to have your team number on. There are no obligations in regard to which equipment you bring. However, please be aware that: You will have to carry those systems on your boats. A kayak weight around 47kg without your belongings. You have two options: > Either you decide to put 2 boats on one trolley, meaning that it has to lift at least 100kg. 2 systems, match the description (maybe others?): Chariot Prijon Crossover : Maximum load of 120kg (manufacturer data) Trolley weight: 4kg Price: 168 euros Chariot Ocean kayak C Tug : Maximum load of 120kg (manufacturer data) Trolley weight: 4kg Price: 160 euros It is your call to decide which one is the best. Beware though, carrying two boats one on another can make it hard to maneuver. If possible, give it a try. > If you choose to bring one trolley per boat, it twill need to support a 50kg load. In that case, you have many possibilities, regarding the size, weight, and materials. It can be very different from one cart to another. Make your choice
Canyoneering, Ropes, and Caving: the equipment will be carry in a box (71x42x47cm, weight 2kg) provided by the organisation (to limit the costs for the teams). The weight of each box will be limited and you will have the opportunity to put in what you want. Support : the organisation will provide 1 container with a capacity of 225l for your assistance supplies. The weight of the container will be limited to 40kg and you will have the opportunity to put in what you want to. Activities Reminder: certificates of technical skills as well as medical certificate are online. It is mandatory to use the medical certificate (compliant with French regulations) available online. No not conform certificate will be accepted; our doctors will not deliver any. The Triathlon French federation licence will be tolerated, if and only if, it gathers all the activities as in Raid in France 2017 Medical certificate, caving included. Foreign teams must also provide insurance with repatriation. We recommend all competitors, French and foreign, to have civil liability insurance for those activities as well as personal accident insurance Credit cards insurances will not be tolerated. This year, Raid in France has been affiliated to the Triathlon French Federation. Therefore, every racer must be in hold of an FFTri Licence. For any racer, who is not in possession of one, the organisation will provide you of one. For FFTri raiders licence, you have to present it while checks equipments. Trek: the atmospheric conditions in such an environment can be very bad an cold, even during summer. You can still find snow on Ardèche mountains summits. The mandatory equipment list is a basis to help you preparing your equipment and making sure you have the minimum to cope with the conditions When we tolerate equipment, this does not always mean that it is the best for the activity or the conditions, it means that it enter in the definition proposed by the list. It s your own choice picking the equipment you think is the most appropriate for the activities, in complement of the mandatory list Whitewater: Whitewater are a very big part of this 9 th edition. Kayak : the boats will be from the same brand as usual: Dag - and Tarkka types. They are all the same. The personal paddles (simple or double) are tolerated. Navigating at night is tolerated. You must carry with you all your whitewater equipment; nothing stays at the boarding area.
Caving: This activity will be in the track this year. This cave is a simple one, and the aim is to discover and enjoy a mysterious and uncommon area. Reminder: this activity is always done without the chronometer on. The main purpose is for you to discover the underground resources, while staying accessible. Ropes: the ropes activities this year are very rich and in astonishing areas. A good understanding of the technics will allow you to make the most of it. MTB: Reminder: Any team who is not in hold of every working lighting system will be stopped. You must make sure your system can last 10 to 12hours. Saling: new for this Raid in France 2017, this activity will be part of the track this year. In case of a lack of wind, some paddles will be available in the boats. Orienteering: Reminder: the maps distributed during the race are 1/50 000 th ones. However, you will have some 1/25 000th ones on sections. Maps will be given twice during the race. The 2017 orienteering certificate is required for all the teams. 2 plasticized maps (A3 and A4) and a road book, in tear-proof and waterproof material, will be given to every team. Points will be noted on the maps. Every points (checkpoints and markers) has to be looked for and checked. Otherwise, the teams will face a very heavy time penalty for a markers or could be disqualified for a checkpoint. Reminder You can ask to get several clothes marked during the equipment checks (e.g.: 2 jackets, 2 fleece,). The racer mandatory equipment for mountain, ropes, Canyoneering and caving is the same and you must owe it in one copy. (eg. Harness ) You must make sure you have something to tie up your B Bags (waterproof bags) on your kayaks. Be very careful regarding your lightening systems and batteries. A team, who don t have enough working lightening system for whitewater, or for MTB, will be prohibited of carrying on and will have to wait until the sun comes up. During checking s, teams must: 1/ Show the original copy of the certificate 2/ Hand in a copy of the certificate they are willing to keep afterwards; everything will be destroyed after the race. All the definitive documents can be found online: that mandatory equipment list, pharmacy, ARWS regulation, make sure you open then to be certain that you have the good version.
